Peter Parker Is... The Spider-Goblin

I now stand corrected and informed, thank you. I will no longer propagate a false story. 🙂 -
I had very high hopes for that Taboo series....and quickly fizzled out due to exactly what you said: mechs and cyborgs. An incoherent mess that spent 0 time exploring the supernatural aspect of Werewolves, and instead wound up looking some very bad 80s cartoon series. But "hot garbage" is a better way of putting it.

Peter Parker Is... The Spider-Goblin
leokearon replied to JayC's topic in Marvelous News's General Area
Nope, the clone saga was the brain child of Terry Kavanagh, which then got out of hand thanks to marketing and executive meddling. The origins of the Clone Saga have been well documented and none of them ever mention McFarlane. People seem to forget that while conversational, the Clone Saga was a financial hit for Marvel, that's why it kept going. Still I think we are going to be going off topic, lets keep the clone saga stuff for when marvel ruin Ben again with Chasm and focus on this lackluster idea of making Peter a Goblin again! -

I have a story, from a colleague who was working in the Marvel Bullpen during that time. THIS IS RUMOUR. According to the story, the Clone Saga was all dreamed up via a consultation between Marvel........and Todd McFarlane. Apparently all the Image guys were invited back inside by Marvel to "consult" periodically ( Before Heroes Reborn), and were seen by staff numerous times. Todd suggested the Clone Saga idea, ....and Marvel bit. And the speculation about the story was that it was two-fold: That it was the stupidest idea Todd could come up with, AND that it was DELIBERATELY INTENDED to SABOTAGE Spider-man ( at that time) so that Todd's Spawn title would beat Spidey in sales. Which it did, apparently. And Marvel bit. Again, this is RUMOUR, but I think if you look at how Marvel was doing at the time, the fallout of the story and the reactions to it, it does seem to fit that scenario. But you all decide...I think it makes for a funny anecdote -

Peter Parker Is... The Spider-Goblin

When there's multiple titles, featuring the same headlining character, the story mill and inspiration well runs dry a lot faster. Had there been a single standalone title all this time , they'd still have decades of untrod stories waiting ahead. -

Ugh... Have comic writers really gotten to the point that they can't come up with something completely fresh that isn't already based on existing concepts/characters? I understand that Marvel has been around for like 80 years, but is there really nothing new that they can do with Spider-Man that isn't a rehash of old ideas, or in this case, an amalgamation of characters? It seems like they have hit a creative wall recently and they haven't been able to get Spider-Man to successfully climb over it... - Yesterday

Definitely getting the iron fist and Luke two pack -
I like that they are actually doing this with two distinct individuals. Instead of trying to replace one with the other. I actually liked both versions of DD but let's just be honest Elektra is Elektra no matter what you put on the front of her uniform. She's always been pretty popular. I think they could have given her her own series a long time ago without having to used her to replace Matt Murdock.

Elektra isn’t done with the Daredevil mantle just yet! Spinning out Saladin Ahmed and Aaron Kuder’s thought-provoking run of Daredevil, Elektra will embark on an all-new solo adventure this July in DAREDEVIL: WOMAN WITHOUT FEAR. The series will mark writer Erica Schultz’s return to the character, following her work on Daredevil: Gang War. Schultz will be joined by her Hallows’ Eve collaborator Michael Dowling. Elektra as Daredevil has been a celebrated evolution of the character, and her latest mission promises to be her most intense yet as she heads to the deadly streets of Madripoor to take on Crossbones, the new Punisher, and more. Readers will learn what pushes Elektra towards this quest in July’s DAREDEVIL #11, a show-stopping issue where Matt and Elektra’s will have a brutal showdown with Bullseye and Kingpin! After the stunning events of DAREDEVIL #11, Daredevil’s allies are left more vulnerable than ever before. If they’re able to survive, it will fall to Elektra and Matt Murdock to not only save their city as Daredevil, but also protect the people they love the most as they’re targeted by some of the most dangerous, violent elements the Marvel Universe has to offer! “To say that I am excited about writing Daredevil again is an understatement, Schultz shared. “I love the mantle of Daredevil, but I really love Elektra as Daredevil. Having written both Matt and Elektra wearing the red DD, I kind of lean toward the latter now!” Check out the covers for both DAREDEVIL: WOMAN WITHOUT FEAR #1 and DAREDEVIL #11 now and preorder them at your local comic shop!
