Lord Thor repaint

Hi!

I'm sure everybody remembers how cool the Hasbro Marvel Legends prototypes looked like. The way the retail figures turned out was a big disappointment for me. So I decided to repaint my Thor figure.

Sadly I couldn't find any good golden paint at my local toyshop, so I'll still have to work on his boots. I'll post more photos later.

I boosted up his chainmail armor with some blue-ish silver. I used the same color on his shoulder pads too. I added some depth in color to his cape (photos later the paint is still wet), and I used a darker blue for his pants. No I especially asked for matt blue in the toyshop, but it turned out that the paint they gave me wasn't matt afterall. First I was p.o.-d, but then as the paint dried I realized that this way it looks as it he's wearing shiny leather pants or something... So it's cool :D

Yeah I think the non-matt paint turned out prety well! Nice going.

Great job on the costume, the paint job really brings out the detail in the folds and stretches of the fabric in the pants and the chain mail esque torso piece looks great too.

I think the hardest thig'll be adding some shading and depth to his skin tone. I still have to find a good skin-colored paint. The original skin color is kinda pale.

The chainmail was easier than I thought. I lightly touched it with the brush, didn't press it on the surface, so the paint didn't went into the small cuts between.

Firstly, He's a Norse god, he basically created pale! The gloss works well on his slacks... and please, please add the "E" to matt when you're talking paint?!

Yeah, I thought about that, and I don't plan to make him tan like the deluxe aggression Triple H figure for example... But I still think he needs some toning.

Yup, it's fine to have him pale but I still reckon adding some shading here and there would make it stand out more. Or for a darker skin tone you could mix some paint?

If you have a primary color set...a wash of pale orange (1 part yellow+2 parts red/2 parts white) really does well!

The best thing in this figure is that it's really huge, compared to another ML figures. Okay, the Hulk and Juggy are huge too, but I expected this figure to be much smaller when I first saw it on photos.

As for that figure? It looks awesome! I never realised he was so big.

he looks great so far! if i might offer up an idea, if you want his boots gold, the best results are had from using a silver basecoat, then a light layer of clear yellow over that. it yields a really nice even finish! also, nordic folks still tan...it turns reddish rather than bronze like southern european skin does, but they do darken somewhat, so don't be afraid of a peachy colored wash w/ maybe a very light orange dry rub to bring up his skin tones. i think it's those arms even moreso than the scale maille armor that make him flat and uninteresing. but you've done a great job w/ the armor and pants thusfar. and the cape is a hue improvement.

Thanx for the hints! First I want to try it with golden paint. I've bought one, but I wasn't satisfied with it. It was transparent with tiny flitters. I'll look for another paint if I have the time. Until then I tried to mix it with silver, but it didn't work out. Maybe I'll try mixing silver with yellow, as you mentioned...

I finally had the time to actually finish the paint job on his boots. Shiny golden boots, just like the prototype's. :D

that is a great job on the repaint!! i too never looked at him as being as large as he is either!! now if you could fix those stupid hasbro elbow joints and give him an arm swivel it would be sweet looking!! every time i see his elbow sticking out like that i barf!! @smilepunch@

You're right about the elbows. But I only do paint-jobs. I can't fix that. :)
