Official NYCC 2017

New guys please note, Hasbro does not have a stand at NYCC. Instead they hold a press event outside the Con where they reveal all their products (that they are allowed to)

As alway:

  • DO NOT POST PICS OR LINK TO OTHER SITES.
    • I know we all get excited when we read something on another site but please know that this site will post news and images on the main page. You are allow to write what other sites have reported, that fine as we know we can't stop you all from doing that but don't post any pics or link. That plus our boss get really mad at us lol :P
  • Don't not make multiple thread discussing the same thing.
    • Keep all SDCC/Hascon/NYCC news to this thread. If you have an opinion or even anger rant (come one we know some one will), please post it here. If we MODs see a thread like this one, it will be merged together with this one.
  • Try and keep wishlist til after the SDCC/Hascon/NYCC (Sunday or Monday).
    • We are not going to ban wishlist thread, in fact we like them, but there is really no point in make a list until we know all that is coming out. Also their will usually be the annual "Post SDCC/Hascon/NYCC Wishlist" Thread going up on Monday.

Ya, even though they aren't part of the actual event they do want to be a major topic at the event. This might be a good thing cuz I'm hoping they might try to overshadow or at least parallel the event by making some big announcements. I'm hoping for Warpath as the final figure in the Deadpool wave & I'm really hoping the Gladiator leak was just a rouse and the final figure in the X-Wave will be Gambit or Bishop, cuz Gladiator? Really?.. I don't expect much more out of the Black Panther wave, except maybe Black Panther, cuz I expect they plan to keep some of the character designs under wraps a little longer. Another Spider wave announcement would be icing on the cake. Maybe a look at the Thing exclusive and a couple more 2 packs.

I would love a modern Thing BAF, but I was thinking something along the line of a comic Man-Ape. Everyone automatically assumed the Man-Thing mold would be used for Sasquatch bur we all know that isn't the case and as we can see now, that mold would actually be better suited for Man-Ape. That being said, I'm sure the majority of us would prefer Thing.

well from what I saw we will be getting:

  • Gladiator - first this is not the same Gladiator as the SDCC one. This instead uses the Tombstone body mold. But the rest seem to be the same.
  • Multiple Man - looks great. Love that he is coming with multiple head including a unmasked head, but part of me wishes it was 3 masked head with different expressions.
  • Prowlers - I like it but it looks like a hodgepodge or other figures. well at least he is finally out.
  • Noir- seriously what took this one sooo long. They even used the mold we said to use. By the way Hasbro, futuristic guns in a Depression period characters? Seriously?
  • Taskmaster- great.

something tells me the reason they haven't shown the Black Panther BAF is cause it might be a movie figure instead. Oh well MCM London is in a few weeks so maybe they will show it their.

Taskmaster looks good but I wished they'd used the Reaper mold. Maddrox & Noir are both on point. Finally we have a decent trench coat buck. Please, take that old one, burn it, douse it in acid, insult it's mother & shoot that #$## into space. Prowler, what took you so long? Looks great. Gladiator? I'm soooo miffed at this one. Why, oh why waste a valuable roster spot from our once yearly X-Men wave on a retread character who isn't a mutant? I mean, he looks a little different from the first one but I wouldn't necessarily call it an improvement. "Best X-Men wave yet"? Not quite. Maybe next year, huh?

I wish some pics were taken of both Sasquatch & Iron Man next to an average Bucky Cap sized figure for perspective. Every picture seems to be taken from an overhead view which makes since cuz I assume everyone is standing. Still, if your gonna go through the trouble of getting hi-res images, might as well try & get a few at eye level.

Songbird & Psylocke look better every time I see them but has anyone else noticed how suddenly all the female face sculpts look almost exactly alike? Specifically, the face sculpt on Spider-Woman was noticeably more attractive when shown at Hascon than it is now. Has Hasbro once again taken on the facial scupts internally or is Gentle Giant still doing it?

Prowler....at last! I can't believe it took so long to get him out, but he looks great, worth all the wait. And Mr. Fantastic looks like he has bendy wire in his arms! Those two alone are enough to make me happy with NYCC. Add to that Madrox and the new Psylocke effect piece, it's a great set of reveals!

On a different note, can anyone confirm if Gladiator is just a straight repaint? He looks like he is, but from the sideshots I couldn't tell if this is the Hyperion mold or the Young Thor mold.

Young thor mold. but most of it reuses the older figure with just the chest being different.

also is it weird that I already have a place for all the figures announced today planned out.

..but NOT as a Build-A-Figure. The 6 ft Ben Grimm doesn't need to be a BAF. The 7'5 Colossus wasn't and he fits RIGHT in scale (the figure was 7.5").

I'm happy with the figures shown today, they gave us a closer look on every reveal so far, and a few more figures.

That Taskmaster looks incredible, as well as the Multiple Man.

Not that happy that Gladiator is part of the X-Men Wave, would have prefer a new figure.

Reed Richards looks FANTASTIC!!

Seeing Cable and Deadpool makes me happy as we are getting them on their classic costumes.

The rest of the X-Men wave looks pretty cool, as the Iron Man, Black Bolt and Namor.

In short, 2018 is going to be awesome!

I realize he's always been listed around the 6' mark but in more modern translations he's been portrayed as much larger. Not so much in height as girth. He's more of a wide wrecking ball shape which could put him in BAF range. Even at that, I don't necessarily subscribe to the belief that the BAF has to be a larger figure. As we saw with the Mantis BAF & the Urich Hobgoblin before that, it could simply be a standard size figure that needs a new or intricate sculpt. I'm cool with that as long as it not some BS like what they pulled with the Homecoming wave. A Thing in his modern "space suit" would most certainly require a new sculpt.

Yeah, and the BIB posse (Bigger is Better) complained till the cows came home. They ranted BIG TIME about the Thanos BAF (who was actually done correctly). Trust me, there's a major contingent of collectors who couldn't care less about scale and want their BAF's big no matter the character. (unless it's a female. Then for some reason, they may be too big,no matter if it's a BAF or otherwise).

As for how he (or any other character) is drawn, that's called "artistic license". That's merely their interpretation/opinion. If Hasbro makes the Thing as a BAF the size he's supposed to be, they will catch HELL!

No, I must disagree. That is clearly not the Young Thor mold. Look at the official press images of each of them. The key detail is the abdominals. The ones on the Young Thor are more square and symetrical & the cut at the obliques angle upward. This Gladiator is clearly the exact same one that came in the Thanos Imperative exclusive. It's not even a repaint, it's identical. Now, the final product might have a slightly different color palette so they can claim it's different but if this press image is the final product it is nothing but a straight repack. What a cop out way of filling out the wave. For them to proclaim this to be the best wave ever it hardly even look's like they're even trying. Guess they used the majority of the budget for the MCU figures next year. They better be good.

Thanks! Convenient that all of these very random figures fit so well in our collections.

Well...even if it is the same Hyperion build as before it's definitely a repaint, that I will argue, I have the figure in front of me now. The red is much more vibrant on the Thanos Imperative one, and the blue is more like what Major Victory and Captain Universe Spidey are sporting. The blue on this "new" Gladiator shown here is closer to a dark blue or even navy. Personally I was never going to purchase the figure, but I was curious if any of it was new.
