Custom How-To/Tips

WRIST ARTICULATION:

This procedure will vary depending on the custom and parts chosen. Always be certain the parts chosen have enough depth, width, and overall "meat" to support this technique.

1. After choosing the paarts you want to use, carefully cut the hands off at teh wrist or forearm if doing forearm articulation.

2. Chose the right dremel bit. It will vary depending on the size of the available wrist and forearm as well as the size of the peg you use. Here is an image of the bit I use. 070.jpg

3. Now for the tricky part. Drill holes in both the wrist and forearm section. Be certain the holes line up as straight as possible. You don't want a lopsided hand. Also, try not to waddle the hole out too much. You want the fit to be as tight and snug as possible.

4. Now insert your peg in the hand or forearm, which ever you choose. You may have to heat the parts to make the fitting easier, either with a blow dryer or hot water. Use your teeth (my choice) or needle nose pliers to shove the peg in as far as you can. For mine I used the peg from XMO Sabretooth's knees.

5. Now do the same for whichever part is left and put the two parts together. Remember to shove it in as far as you can and heat helps. There ya go!

Onyx! I'm looking to convert xow cyclops and icemans arms into bicep swivel(i have 2 of each figure, if that might help?) if possible i would try to make them akin to venoms arms? i have some ideas but am hoping youve done this and can tell me what works? also, i dont want to have to paint them at all(im trying to keep them as 'action' figures)

i would also like to convert their hip joints to t-bars.

i cant even fathom a way to give iceman t-bar hips....

As far as bicep swivel, it is possible but very difficult and even more so without painting. You'd have to cut the bicep and basically do the same thing to it that I did with the wrist. Only it will be more difficult because you have to keep in mind that the peg for the elbow goes right up there also. As far as t-bar, I haven't done it yet but crowncoke has. Basically you have to crack the crotch area open and insert the t-bar.

I have a question I'm hoping you can help me out with. I want to paint the coat that Wolverine and the X-men cyclops came with, but when I tried a test spot it just cracked and flaked right off. Any idea how I can go about painting the coat? It's that soft rubbery material. I know some people dye these things as well. Any help on either method would be greatly appreciated.

Onyx, I'm working on a Silver Savage custom, but no fists are really of the right proportion to cut and glue in place of his open hand so he can hold a weapon. Any thoughts. I tried putting it in hot water and then wrapping the fingers and hand into a fist/holding position and leaving it overnight. It looked like it had worked and then not even a half hour goes by and his sword falls right out of his hand. That's the only part that's a problem for my custom right now.

How would I go about removing the hair from a figures head. I wanted to make my custom Domino figure with Agent Helix and wanted to remove the Hair to do the faces as best as possible. Would just setting it in hot water and prying away at it work???

The easiest way is to cast the head then sand the hair off. However, not everyone can cast so I suggest starting with a razor knife then sanding.

The only thing I can suggest is try to find a G.I.Joe hand or Star Wars that will fit correctly.

Hi everyone, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask my question. If it is not can someone direct me to the right thread? Anyways, I am looking to get a trigger left hand for my ML Cable. Any suggestions on how I can make this happen? Thanks.

I use Testors ACRYLIC paint for my ML figures and accessories. (Make sure it is acrylic, NOT ENAMEL). And use a good brush. Be patient and let it dry really really well before applying a 2nd coat. Hope that helps!

How oh how do you manage to paint customs with no paint rub at the joints? I've tried sanding down the joints but that just makes the figures joints loose. Any help would be appreciated.
