Aves apoxie sculpt allegery

Does anyone else break out from this. When I first started using it the first month was fine but then my hand s and eyes started getting red bumps. After taking a small break my hands don't break out but my eyes do immediately, even when wearing safety glasses. May need scuba goggles. Anyone else have this happen? I've tried apoxie and there fixit sculpts both do it.

I hate to break the news to you, but you have the classic symptoms of skin sensitization. It is a permanent condition and irreversible. You get this allergic reaction from handling epoxy without gloves. It can take days, weeks or even years for you body to absorb the chemical that mimics the amino acids of your body found in Apoxie Sculpt and Fixit Sculpt. The reason you become allergic is due to your body no being able to absorb any more of the polyamines and polyamides contained in the clay. It is actually very bad because these amino acids are readily absorbed into your DNA. Once your body can't absorb any more of the product, you get the allergic reaction, even when exposed to the smallest amounts.

 

For others reading this post, ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES OR APPLY A BARRIER CREAM WHEN MIXING AND HANDLING ANY EPOXY CLAY. Once you get skin sensitization, there is no going back because the chemical that makes up epoxy clay becomes part of your DNA.

 

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AND READ THE MSDS. Don't be fooled by the non-toxic and non-hazardous wording on the label, that is for the cured product! If you can't find the MSDS on the manufacturers website, ask yourself, "what are they trying to hide?".

Thanks I'll try that stuff next time. I use gloves now but just being near it my eyes start to feel irritated. I'm surprised that all the tutorial site I went to says use aves since it's the best but no one else had this problem apparently.

Actually, there is an alarming increase in the amount of people getting skin sensetization using epoxy clays without proper protection. Just because you haven't heard about them, doesn't mean they aren't out there. I have seen several posts recently on other forums talking about the same thing you are going through. Since people vary from person to person as far as the rate they absorb the polyamines into their skin, it might take years before this problem becomes acute enough to be addressed in the mainstream press. It is a shame AVes for so many years used the term non-toxic for their Apoxie products, downplaying the health hazards just to gain market share. I found their MSDS and under section 6 "Health Hazards" it says Non-Toxic, but I looked up the test method and it say it is non-toxic if you dispose of the product as solid waste into the environment. It has nothing to do with humans! Section 2 of the MSDS lists all of the hazardous ingredients. You will notice that they play up the non-toxic and non-hazardous statements over and over, but the fine print says "for fully cured product". All of the epoxy clays are non-toxic, non-hazardous in the cured state. As far as the tutorials stating that Apoxie Sculpt is the best epoxy clay to use, make sure that you validate what the website says regarding safety issues. If you go to YouTube, you will see video tutorials showing how to properly mix the Apoxie Sculpt using bare hands. I know some of these people personally and wonder why they would risk their health using a product without adequate protection. It hurts my head thinking about why they would do this.

I got a quick question, how postiive are u of this? I have been working with aves fixit, Magic sculpt and green stuff bare handed for 5 yrs.

 

Up until here recently i have noticed a tingly or loss of sensation in my fingertips, particularly on the fingers i use to mix the epoxy and ofourse sculpt! Is this freaking normal, cuz if this is a problem i swear i am debating seeking a dermatologist or specific doctor about this.

 

Other issue i have is when grinding down epoxy or sanding is the stuff ok to breathe in? Ican't believe i didnt think about this #$@# sooner, please lemme know your thoughts.

I used it a month barehanded and now if it touches my bareskin for 5 minutes now my eye get red and swollen that night and I get a weird rash on my left knuckle that stays for weeks even without using it again. When dry it's safe so breathing sand dust should be ok. I tried aves apoxie, fixit and magic putty and they all do it to me. Fixit is definitely worth the extra money.

In a nutshell it states that neither part A or B uncured, nor the final cured state is in any way toxic. Hazardous polymerization does not occur either.

 

Skin sensitization depends on the individual. Some people are more succeptable than others to chemicals and even natural agents. Super glue for instance. I know people that have only had a few exposures to the fumes and can no longer use it, their respiratory system closes up, they choke, gag, pass out. Others like me have been exposed to the fumes for 14+ years and haven't had any ill effects (I now wear a 3M organics vapors mask tho after I found out you could gain the allery!)

 

Swap to another product, milliput or magic sculpt perhaps and see if that does it. Or wear gloves, swim goggles, and an organic vapors mask. That's if you really want to use something you're allergic too, like resins.
