RUMOR!!!! Warpath is BAF for Deadpool wave

So I saw a brief discussion on a Facebook collectors group, not exclusive to ML, that it had been floating around earlier today that a new Warpath using the Colossus buck is supposed to be the Deadpool wave BAF. Supposedly it even showed up on Wikipedia (for what thats worth) for a short period before being taken down. As far as I can tell this is totally unsubstantiated, but has anyone else heard about this?

I doubt it. one group in FB rumour wouldn't really hold up. Maybe they meant that Warpath is a figure in the wave instead. I mean if Colossus and DHII can be regular figures I don't see why Warpath who is shorter then both can't be a regular figure. It also could "replace" the rumoured X-force Deadpool.

If they were to do Warpath, then the colossus build wouldn't work for him anyway. I think the Terraz / Dormammu/ Sandman build would work better.

Three things. Firstly, I'd like to correct myself. Apparently it was said to be a "Colossus sized" BAF. So it could conceivably be an all new sculpt. That was my fault. Secondly, are we absolutely sure Colossus wasn't built to be a BAF? Has anyone tried to disassemble one? I only have one so I'm not gonna chance it. Also, if you'll recall, Dormammu didn't seem like it was built to be a BAF but either that was the intent or it was slightly retooled to be one. Thirdly, from my comparisons the Terrax, Dormammu & Sandman/Absorbing Man bucks are all taller than the Colossus buck so that won't work if Warpath is supposed to be shorter either.

Also I know it could easily just be a FB stir up thats why i was clear to say it was totally unconfirmed But apparently, according to some, this guy seems to have some kinda contacts in the industry. Previous to this he had correctly predicted the SDCC exclusives for more than one company & he also correctly predicted the DC Mutiverse new styling to be more like ML which has come out since SDCC. He even went so far as to point out the per wave format, which is 3 or 4 reusable sculpts, 2 unique sculpt & a unique CNC (pretty much ML 101) and even most of the roster. One could say Batman & Wonder Woman coulda been an easy guess, but Vixen & Simon Baz? Not sure why this guy doesn't get more recognition but they say he only posts every so often and he's pretty brief and seccinct & doesn't respond to too many question. Keep in mind all this information I'm getting on him is 3rd party as well, sooo...... I'm told he's been wrong on some things as well. Whatever, it makes for good conversation & speculation.

just to let you know all the BAFs I recommend are all using the same base. It was used for Absorbing man as well.

But If you said that he is trust worthy end I wouldn't find it hard to believe. It could just be Hasbro decided to change it to Warpath cause Strong Guy was leaked. At least they are learning there lesson and not having the figure names as part of the order listing in stores.

Ya, I'm still not 100% sure how trustworthy he is either. As I said, all information I've been given on him is hearsay. I just thought it was an intriguing possibility. Believe me, I keep my hopes up that the crew is pulling a double gotcha on us about Strong Guy, thinking maybe they're diverting attention because he was leaked and then later come out and say "surprise, the BAF was Strong Guy after all". If we don't get him, I would be totally content with an update for Warpath. The older one is still pretty good but it seems a bit dated compared to the look of the current ML

As far as what qualifies to be a BAF, we know typically it is the largest figure in the wave but the Mantis BAF shows us it doesn't necessarily have to be a large figure but any figure that requires a new sculpt. It's an easy formula to read. Most waves include 4 figs reusing molds, 2 figs using unique or highly retooled molds and a BAF which usually requires another unique or retooled mold. So anyway you look at it most waves get 3 new molds & any one of them could be the BAF. I was not displeased with Mantis. Though I would have preferred a Thing, which would have required a new mold as well, Mantis was actually my favorite MCU figure until Elektra came out. At least Mantis was a true BAF and not a CAF (Complete A Figure) as was the case with the wings in the Homecoming wave.

A warpath figure would be great but I think Strong Guy makes more sense as a BAF.

The BAF will be a character both related to the X-Men and Deadpool. Even though I agree Warpath doesn't need to be a BAF and that Strong Guy would make more sense (as a BAF), he won't be the Build-A-Figure. Guido has no connection with Wade. Moreover, Hasbro said he wouldn't be.

I hope the BAF is Warpath.... he's always been one of my favorite X-Force characters. With Shatterstar from the most recent X-Men wave, and Cable & Domino as part of the Deadpool wave we could get a good little 90's X-Force group going.

If they do go with Warpath I hope that they go with his early X-Force costume to match the same era as the released Shatterstar. As much as I love the more streamlined later costume with the red stripes at the shoulders and ribs that was used in black and grey for the X-Force costume on Wolverine's team, the Thunderbird style costume would be a better fit for this wave.

I would also be OK with the slightly updated version of the costume he sported following X-Cutioner's song when the whole team got new costumes.

That would be great but the problem with that version is the design seems a bit racist

They released Thunderbird (John Proudstar) in that costume with the Marvel Universe Giant Size X-Men #1 box set....

Toy Biz released a version of the 2nd Warpath costume back in the day that was spot on to the look in the comic... I think it's a fine line since the character of James Proudstar is so deeply connected to his Apache heritage and wanted to show that through his costume design. So, it is not someone who is not a member of the Apache people appropriating imagery or other cultural clothing items for their own purposes. It's not Johnny Depp dressing up like a Native American with a crow on his head...

But, at the same time, it is a fictional character intentionally created to portray a member of a Native American tribe in a very deliberate way.

I don't know if Marvel got a lot of backlash from the cultural stereotypes of the team introduced in Giant Size X-Men #1... it was obviously supposed to be an international team that highlighted the parts of the world each was from, but every character is full of stereotypes for a particular group.

Impact versus intent.... I don't think that Warpath's costume is intended to be racist but I don't know the impact that is has on Native American readers/ toy consumers.

Lol, don't fall into the Social Justice narrative. My standpoint? Unless the particular effected group is actually offended there's no reason for anyone else to be offended for them. I've yet to hear from any Native American in person, online, or other that they found any part of Thunderbird, Warpath or Shaman to be racist. I've found it to be just the opposite. Most are fans & happy to have them represent the 1st Nation communities and traditions.

For the record, I prefer the Capulo design to the Leifeld one. Though I would hope to get short & long hair swappable head sculpts.

This. Thank you. Until someone points out what is actually crude or offensive, please leave the social justice cries somewhere else. Stereotypes exist for a reason and usually not for the purpose of offending someone.
