  1. Classic Hydro-Armor Iron Man Classic Space Armor Iron Man Vault Guardsman (Army builder!) Blizzard with Spymaster running change Classic Living Laser with Serpent Crown (with solid or translucent variant) Crimson Dynamo (a larger version of the IM2 figure) with classic Ghost running change Classic/1st appearance War Machine (A larger version of the IM2 comic series figure)
  2. I currently have all of my Avengers teams on one shelf (Adjectiveless, New, Secret, and Dark, in addition to past members and allies). I might do that (Wish I had been able to get a second Black Widow). I could put him with Moon Knight, Astonishing X-Men Beast, Ant-Man, Nova, and War Machine, but it'd be very hard for me to wanna replace ML1 Cap, especially with Steve back in his Cap costume in the comics, which is where I feel he belongs. And I'll gladly take a Bleeding Edge armor, either to put in my armory or current adjectiveless Avengers display.
  3. Man, it's sure been a while since I was here last, so I figured I'd drop by with some thoughts on my favorite toyline: Klaw- So glad to be getting a Klaw. More classic villains always make me happy. I'm not sure where to put him in my display, whether it's with my Fantastic Four villains battling the Fantastic Four or battling Black Panther in my Avengers display. Hope Summers- I have little to no interest in Hope, but that doesn't mean I won't take her. I'll gladly put her in my X-Men display. It'd be cool to get a baby Hope pack in. Constrictor- As said with Klaw, I love getting classic villains as new figures. Not sure where I'll put him in my display, but he'll look cool fighting anyone, since he's battled everyone from the Hulk to Cap. Steve Rogers- I'm not really crazy about the whole Steve Rogers: Super Soldier idea or costume, but I'll take him I guess. Not sure if I'll put him in my Avengers display (Doubt he'll replace my ML series 1 Cap) but I'm sure I'll think of something. Iron Man- Not sure which armor it is, but a classic Iron Man armor is a welcome addition. I'll take anything from deep sea or space armror to his neo classic armor. Not sure if Extremis counts as classic yet, but I'll take that armor as well. And yes, I'll even accept a direct repaint in red and gold colors of the 2-pack Iron Man, provided he comes with the same interchangable accessories. Movie Ghost Rider- I didn't buy the first movie Ghost Rider figures because they weren't canon to the classic 616 universe (That and I wasn't too crazy about the movie to begin with). I'll probably toss this guy on the shelf I've dubbed the "Legion of Losers" Shelf (Not the actual team, mind you) that is comprised of X3 movie figures, Ultimate figures, and other lame-o's I can't find a place for in my display. Then again, that all depends how close movie Ghost Rider looks like the comic book version. Thor- I'll gladly take this Thor even if I plan on getting the SDCC version. I just think of the SDCC version as a chase variant of sorts. Not sure if he'll replace the Giant-Man series Thor on my Avengers shelf, but I definitely do need a Thor to battle my Savage Frost Giant, so he'll likely get that honor. Terrax- Another sorely needed Fantastic Four villain and former Galactus herald? Yes please! I have the perfect spot for him in my FF villain display. Overall, this wave isn't bad. Glad to be getting new villains. Not sure it was so wise to put so many versions of the A-Listers in the first new wave, but I can see why they did it, with the Avengers movie franchise and such. I'm also glad this is 7 figures as opposed to 8. Not the best wave selection, but certainly not the worst, either.
  4. Here's an update: http://www.actionfigurepics.com/2009/06/ha...ans-choice-news
  5. Best Marvel Legends, Male: Black Costume Spider-Man I wanted this figure from the moment I saw it. I especially love the head sculpt and paint job (The blue highlights). My only complaint is that he needed more articulation. He looks great with my New Avengers display. Best Marvel Legends, Female: Spiral (Regular) I was somewhat surprised when I found out we were getting her, but I'm sure glad we did. I love the articulation (Could've used a bicep swivel and double knee joints, but I digress), paint job, and the swords (Could've used a few more), sculpt, as well as the removable helmet. She looks great in my X-Men vs. X-Villains display. Best Marvel Legends, Villain: Crossbones Everything about Crossbones wreaks of awesomeness. It was quite ingeneous how they used the Hulkling sculpt and gave him a snazzy vest and spot-on head sculpt. He looks great (He is a Toy Biz sculpt after all). I only wish he didn't have to share weapons with the Hydra Soldier, but it beats no weapons, I guess. Kang might've got this spot, had he only came with a gun and were he a smidge taller. I also would've picked Wendigo, but he wins in another category. Hardest ML to Find: Fin Fang Foom's Head and Neck...er, I mean She-Hulk, Hulk Legends Never did I once find a She-Hulk on my own while Legends Hunting. The only way I ever saw two was the one that came in the SDCC 8-pack I ordered and one somebody found for me (Thank God, or I never would've been able to build the awesomeness known as Fin Fang Foom). Easiest ML to find: Thing and Mr.Fantastic 2-pack I've seen this 2-pack just about EVERYWHERE! I've seen them at Wal*Mart, Kraynaks, Toys R Us, Hasbrotoyshop.com (As well as many other on-line retailers), etc. If I never see this 2-pack again, it'll be too soon. Best 2-Pack: Wolverine and Forge When it came to X-Men I wanted that still needed to be made, Forge was always on my list of must haves, and Hasbro certainly delivered. We were aso fortunate enough to get guns and alternate heads and hands. He really excelled my expectations. I only wish he had came with his brown frayed boots, but I can certainly forgive that minor detail. Oh, and before I forget, this 2-pack also had Wolverine in a matching uniform from back in the Jim Lee days. He's OK, but too tall from what I can tell. But props to Hasbro for the altenate heads and hands. Best BAF: Fin Fang Foom Definitely one of, if not my favorite BAFs. The wait of trying to find a 2nd She-Hulk definitely paid off, because I felt like I found the holy grail when I removed the head and neck from their packaging and FINALLY after 5 months of searching, was able to assemble him. He's spectacular; his sculpt, height, and paint job were all extremely well done. He's the best of the best when it comes to Hasbro BAFs. My only, single complaint is that he could've used more articulation. I also sorta wish he had the Jack Kirby eyes had had in prototype pics. All Around Favorites of the Year: Tie - Black Costume Spider-Man & Wendigo Since the minute I first saw Black Spidey, I knew I HAD TO have him! (See Best Male Figure for details). As for Wendigo, I've wanted him for a while, and he looks just like the John Byrne version I like so much. His sculpt and paint job is superb. He looks great fighting, Sasquatch, Guardian, and Wolverine. Best Non-Legends Figure: Spider-Man Classics Spider-Man (With Lamp post) I didn't pick up McFarlane Spidey as he's known the first time, so it was great to get this much praised version of ol' Web-Head. Kudos to Hasbro for re-releasing him. THe black instead of blus is ok with me; it distinguishes him from the initial relase and reminds me of Erik Larson's rendition of Spidey. My only complaint is with the black on Sppider-Man's eye; it eppears to have been sloppily added. Best Spidey Animated Figure: Green Goblin Green Goblin wins simply due to the fact that I don't wanna piss Norman Osborn off, considering his new position in the government these days (See Secret Invasion and any follow up to it). Oh, that and the fact I don't collect the Spectacular Spidey figs. Best Incredible Hulk Movie Figure: Hulk (Target Exlusive) While I never bought this figure, I'm feeling a bit nostalgic, considering this is just a re-released Hulk from WAYYYYY back in Series 1. So yeah, he's gonna win this one, plus, he doesn't look like utter gamma irradiated crap like (In my opinion) the other Movie Hulk figs do. Best Iron-Man Movie Figure: War Machine Sure, he shares a lot of the Iron Man sculpt, but he DID come with an arm cannon and gun! Of course he's not called War Machine, but hey, I still think he's pretty bad ass. Best Accessory: She-Hulk, Hulk Legends I originally had Silver Savage's weapons, but then I thought: "Hey! Not only did I manage to score Fin Fang Foom's head and neck, I managed to get a free 1st Appearance She-Hulk for my troubles (This was pretty damn hard to find). Thanks, Hasbro!" Best Marvel film of 2008: Iron-Man Definitely the Dark Kni--Er, wait, you said Marvel movie? Well, in that case, I'd have to go with Iron Man, followed closely by The Incredible Hulk. Best ML Online exclsuive: AOA Sunfire Considering the fact that the Savage Land box set was ALSO available at the SDCC, I guess AOA Sunfire wins by default. Worst ML of 2008: Son of Hulk Valkyrie, Bi-Beast, and McGuiness Hulk lost out to this chump? Wow, how (Pun intended) Un-Incredible... :hulk: Nuff Said! Best Competition to ML: Mattel's DC Universe Uhhh, is there really any other worthy competition out there? No, didn't think so. Although, the Movie Masters are a close 2nd for me anyway, since aside from ML and other ML related lines (Spidey Classics), Movie Masters Dark Knight toys were the only other toy-line I bought in '08.
  6. I know he's not a choice, but Mr.Sinister seems to work well.
  7. Mine would have to be the time I paid about $4-$5 for the Gold First Appearance Iron Man chase figure from the Mojo Series. Toy Biz had just ended their incredible run with the Marvel Legends and all of the figures' prices were cut in half at my local KB Toys to make way for the Hasbro Marvel Legends. Oh, and then there was the time I picked up the Green Goblin, Loki, and Abomination chase figures for a total of about $25-$30 at KB Toys. And those 4 previously mentioned figures are just a small sample of the many good deals I've made when it comes to collecting Marvel Legends at stores. Don't even get me started on the figures I've bought at comicons. I still remember paying $25 for the Stealth Armor Iron Man from way back in Series 1 when he was only worth $25. I was a lil disappointed at first, but now I don't think I could've done a better job if I do say so myself...
  8. I finally completed my Ares BAF yesterday. Here's my review... Crossbones (9.5/10): This figure is probably the best in the whole series. Thanks to Toy Biz, we have a nice range of articulation and sculpt. I also have to give Hasbro credit for their clever re-use of the Hulkling sculpt. All it took was a vest and new head and hands. This figure would've gotten a perfect ten had it been given non-HYDRA guns and if they actually fit in his hands. My only other complaint on this figure is the paint on his mask being a little uneven, but with a figure this cool, I can certainly overlook this. Kang (8/10): This figure gets a nice score due to it, once again being a complete Toy Biz sculpt. The dark colors look good on this Kang, and help differentiate it from the Toy Biz release. I was quite pleased to finally get a Kang after how impossible it was to find him. He would've got a higher score had he come with a gun; he looks a little out of place with a non-articulated hand that was meant to be holding one. So in order to accomodate this, I put Iron Fist's flames on his hands. I'm not sure if he could ever do something like this in the comics, but I think it looks cool. He's also a bit on the short side. Another inch or so of height and he'd be a 9/10. Still, a welcome figure to my collection. Guardian (7.5/10): Ahh, Guardian. I've been waiting to get this guy since Sasquatch was released way back in the Apocalypse Series. He shares his sculpt with Quicksilver, a sculpt which always gives the figures a nice range of articulation. My only complaint with that sculpt in that the top and bottom of the figure don't meet up evenly at the waist. I can overlook that easily; I can even overlook the fact that he doesn't come with the metallic paint job his prototype at SDCC had. However, it's his paint job that is his worst quality. The red on the figure is shoddy to say the least; it was already peeled off when I opened him. Aside from the red, his white is off. When will toy companies learn that a blue paintwash doesn't help pull off a white color? Oh well, he still looks nice fighting Wendigo with Sasquatch and Wolverine... Ultimate War Machine (5/10): What can be said that hasn't already been said about this useless hunk of plastic? Let's start with the obvious: His head; a truly poor, poor decision on Hasbro's part. It's basically a Tony Stark head molded in one brown color and the mask is glued on it so it can't be removed. How awesome is that?!? I mean, couldn't Hasbro have at least put a newly sclupted Jim Rhodes or Black Widow head and new helmet on him? According to the pictues on the package, his helmet is different than Ultimate Iron Man's, so this would've made sense. And yes, he still comes with those crappy karate-chop hands his predecessor came with. His only saving grace is his paint job, which I find goes much better with this sculpt than UIM. Had it not been for the paint job, this figure would've easily gotten a 4/10. Heroes Reborn Iron Man (7.5/10): I've never once read any of the Heroes Reborn titles, so I don't know much about his armor and how it should look, so I can only judge him based on how the figure itself looks. His sculpt is quite detailed, very intricate. The mesh on him was sculpted very well. I only wish the helmet was removeable or that he came with an alternate head. My only complaint is is that he is too short, thin, and all around scrawny (He'll fit in nicely with the aforementioned Kang ) Oh, and his joints are a little on the loose side, so it might be somewhat difficult when trying to find a good pose for him. His yellow paint can come out a bit sloppy in some places, mostly edges, like on his head, but the red paint is solid, mostly because the red parts were probably molded in red plastic. All in all, a nice figure. Ben Reilly Spider-Man (6.5/10): For the record, his packaging is misleading, very misleading. Aside from the fact that most of the pictures on the package are of Peter Parker Spider-Man (Hell, one's even a picture of SPIDER-GIRL!!! Wow, way to respect the dead, Hasbro...), it states that this is in fact, the Scarlet Spider. This is not the case, however. This is Ben Reilly Spider-Man, the costume he wore after Peter Parker temporarily quit being Spider-Man and after Ben quit using his Scarlet Spider duds (Which includes a blue hoody). Aside from this mistake, there's the sculpt. His head and body don't match. What do I mean? Well, his head has sculpted on webbing and eyes, and his body has painted on webs, since he obviously re-uses the Ronan the Accuser Series Silver Surfer body. I would've much rather had one or the other, not both. The painted webs are uneven and don't match up in some places, and the paint on his hands are messed up (He has red paint where there should be blue paint). His web-shooters do constrict the wrist poseability, so watch out for that and don't force it to bend. A Spider-Man figure needs a wide range of poseability, so some toe and finger articulation would've helped to better re-create some classic Spidey poses. And since this is a clone of Spider-Man, he should match up with the Black Costume Spidey from the Red Hulk Series. Had they used the Black Spidey body, not only would this figure have looked less scrawny and thin, they could've easily made a Scarlet Spider variant! Oh well, maybe next time Hasbro... Vision (7.5/10): For those of you who missed Vision the first time around, this figure might be right up your alley. I like the amount of detail that went into his cape, but since it's swished more to the one side, it can be a little hard to find a balanced pose. I like his left hand's pose, (Although I'd much rather have had it articulated), but his right hand looks off. It looks like he was meant to be holding something, even though Vision isn't known for carrying anything. A fist would've worked much better. He also shares the same body with Ben Reilly Spider-Man, so he, too, is a bit on the short and scrawny side. His vibrant paint colors works well for him, although I kinda wish the diamond on his chest matched the other yellow paint on him, it just looks out of place or another mistake on Hasbro's part. Human Torch (Orange version) (9.5/10): This figure is a good example of learing from one's mistakes. This Torch is everything the Ronan Series one should've been. The clear orange plastic mixed with shades of yellow and orange paint go together quite nicely and really pull off the "Flame on!" look well. I'd also like to give props to Hasbro for deciding to not re-use the Troll Doll head of the Ronan Torch, even though it still would've worked on this Torch. I can only hope they use this new Torch's head on the upcoming Human Torch/Invisible Woman 2-Pack. My only complaint is that my figure's right leg is a bit warped and he only stands good in one pose. Other than that, this is definitely a figure worth picking up. As for the Human Torch variant, I'm going to give him an 8/10, since I don't recall seeing the Torch with white jagged streaks on him. However the red and yellow/white clear plastic looks great on him. I'd have probably given him a higher score if not for the streaks. Ares BAF (8.5/10): For starters, this was not worthy of being a BAF. He's the same height as Crossbones, if not a shade smaller with his helmet off. He also could have easily been built in 6 figures, not 8 (The head and accessories coming seperately was not necessary, considering I had to buy that paperweight Ultimate War Machine). But at least Wal*Mart didn't drive the price of the figures up to $15. Now that that's out of the way, let's start with his paint job. His helmet's gold paint is very sloppy, so be sure to look for that when picking out your Heroes Reborn Iron Man (If it'll even make a difference). The paint can be a little sloppy on the arm studs and a little off on his chest's skull, too. The paint on his weapons' handles turned out decent due to a blue paint wash, but alas, they rub off too easily onto his hands. The articulation isn't bad, I like not having articulated hands for figures that hold accessories (In this case a sword and dagger). However, his head suffers from the loss of the joint that allows figures to look up and down. Ares looks like he's always looking down at his feet, especially when he's got his helmet on. The armor on his legs and his brown chainmail(?) on his left arm and stomach are all nicely detailed, which is evident by the little cracks and scratches on them. Also, the holes his arms and legs fit into are WAY too loose and easily allow them to pop out. It's a real problem when trying to pose him. Still, Ares fits in quite nicely with my Mighty Avengers figures, and was well worth it, even if I had to buy UWM... Ares Wave Final Grade: 8.5/10
  9. Here's a review and pics of the entire wave (Minus Black Wolverine, but who cares about him, really?): http://www.aftimes.com/aslu/slu.shtml
  10. Someone over at the Fwoosh forums found Spiral, Adam Warlock, and Black Costume Spider-Man (Whom, I might add, looks totally awesome!): http://www.thefwoosh.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52624
  11. It is a complete set of single card figures. Thanks! I'll be sure to order a set, then.
  12. I have a couple questions about the Fin Fang Foom box set: 1. Are all of the figures packaged in there like the Toy Biz box sets, or did they simply take all of the figures in their single carded boxes and place all eight of them in there? 2. Is Fin Fang Foom pre-assembled inside or do you have to open all eight of the packages to build him like you normally would? 3. Is there anything else that comes with it?
