Found Dr.Strange wave today!

As always it was missing the two most desired figures (at least for me) Nico and Iron Fist but I just had a feeling in my gut and went back to the store on my lunch break and found them partial hidden in the DC aisle. Was super stoked about that. I found it really odd that I found this wave before I have even seen the 3rd Civil War wave at retail. The wave continues to allude me.

I also wanted to mention that Target had the Civil Wave 3 pack on sale for like 17$ and War Machine/Disco Iron Man two pack for 20$. They went fast though and the target down the road still has them for 60$ and 40$ respectively. So, who knows if your store will have them on sale.

Another interesting thing was my TRU jumped the street date on a ton of Rogue One product. I am not a huge Star Wars guy but I still picked some of the stuff up. They only had one 6 inch Black Series figure though so I can think someone got there before me. I really want the new Obie Wan. Is that figure meant part of the insane amount of Rogue One product?

Nice score on Strange!

Being an even bigger SW collector than I am of marvel, I can probably help you out on SW questions lol. The old Ben Kenobi was originally released as one of 3 sdcc ex from this year. He is getting a single card/box release, without the some of the accessories from the sdcc set, in 2017. Same exact deal with the sdcc unmasked Kylo Ren, except he is a part of the 5 figs comprising Rogue 1 6in wave 1 (Wave 7) which is "street dated" for 9/30.

I used quotations for street dated because if anyone reads the SW boards then you know that rogue one product is constantly being seen on the shelfs across all retailers, nation wide at this point. Case in point, I stopped by TRU today to look for some new McFarlane Color Tops and Neca figs and instead walked out with an Unmasked Kylo and Death Trooper that I was "supposed" to find on 9/30 lol

Also, to be clear, I'm only speculating that single card 6in Obi will be released in 2017 based on sole fact that when he was originally revealed as single card release, it was also during the unveiling of Emperors Royal Guard, Lando, Hera, Qui Gon Jinn and Tusken Raider-which are all slotted for 2017.

Given the fact that Old Ben has technically already been released via the Sdcc ex, there could actually be a very good chance he will releases in 2016. So far, we've only gotten official confirmation on Rogue 1 Wave 2 (Wave 8) and that wave is R1 Commander Krennic, R1 Shore Trooper and TFA C-3PO. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Hey SW question, is "the vintage collection" still considered the premium line to buy to get in to SW? I know it was the precursor to the Black series. I like my SW in 3 inch scale over the 6.

@KiloinNorcal

The short answer to question is a resounding YES.

If you are new to SW 3.75 collecting, or are looking for a solid jumping on point, you can essentially start and stop with The Vintage Collection.

HOWEVER, you are going to be spending (just looking at Ebay for an example) an exuberant amount of money if you were looking to acquire a complete collection-the full line of single carded figures alone spans over 120 figs and there were variants and exclusives (the entire final 11 figure wave was an exclusive for example)

The cost of acquiring a complete modern VOTC collection, would be more expensive then acquiring pretty much any other full 3.75 line in history minus "actual" vintage figures from the 70s/80s. I'm not stating this as a deterrent for you or anyone else but for anyone that may not be as familiar with the scope/intricacies of that line as I am-I just want you to have a realistic expectation, financially speaking.

Also, don't get me wrong, while the modern SW VOTC line might be the penultimate culmination of Hasbros 20 years worth of SW 3.75 efforts, (much like their modern Vintage Joe line from 2007-2009) that does not mean there are not plenty of other super strong SW lines. The 30th Anniversary Collection from 2007 and the Legacy Collections from 2008-2010 are also superb for example.

The reason why the SW VOTC line has such undeniable appeal is that is was simply the best of both worlds for nearly every SW collector. You get truly vintage/classic cards/artwork packaging containing the most modern SA sculpting, paint & accessories you could ever want for that specific character.

The current SA 3.75 Black Series line (Phase 3-Walmart Exclusive) is currently set up between releasing new figs based off the new films and peppering in repacks from the VOTC line (in some cases like the upcoming Emperors Royal Guard from the soon to be released Wave 5, they are actually improving the figure a bit with slightly upgraded tooling/fabric goods) and if they continue to do this, it will definitely help drive the prices down of the VOTC releases which is a very very good thing.

With regards to the 6in line (for me) I'm 100% all in as it's basically a fresh start for the franchise as far releasing figures goes because everything that was old, or had been done to death previously, is now new again thanks to the change in scale. Case in point, there's an upcoming Lando fig in 6in that I couldn't be more excited about (also an upcoming Lando repack in the 3.75 from the VOTC release) but if you asked me when the last time I was excited about a 3.75 Lando...god only knows because at the end of the day, I probably have at least 10 different versions of the character in 3.75 scale since 1995 lol.

After owning every line/wave of 3.75 figs released since 1995, when I was 8 and was able to play with SW toys for the first time ever (no SW figs were released from 1985-1995) the 6in line was the welcome breath of fresh air for the line I didn't even know I needed, since I'd been carrying the 3.75 torch for nearly 20 years. In fact, I would go so far as to say the whole reason the 6in SW line exists is because Hasbro felt there's no way they can top the vintage line...and with regards to 3.75 figs since, they surely haven't.

Bottom line is, if you asked 100 different SW collectors on "what they would like to see be done with the SA 3.75 line" you would get all 100 collectors saying the same thing which is "bring back the Vintage Line" lol. I for one couldn't agree more and with 2017 marking the 40th Anniversary of the first film, we MAY see a return of the SA 3.75 line in a big way. If they release a new 100 fig SA 3.75 Vintage Line next year I'd be all for it and would gladly eat it up but at the end of the day, the 6in line are the only figs that "excite" me anymore because the sky is the limit with the new scale.

Interesting, now I was reading the rumormill that there was going to be yet another 3.75 line introduced in 2017, what's the word on that? And yeah, having sold a rather large MU collection I get the thousands i'd have to invest in a carded SW line. Think I'm going to try loose collecting and give to my son.

Definitely a cool approach with regards to your son.

With regards to an additional SA 3.75 SW line in 2017 (assuming the black series stays with Walmart for 2017) there's no better reason/time not to do it considering the anniversary. So, if SA 3.75 comes back in a big way for 2017, I think the only options that make sense would be the VOTC coming back and continuing (hopefully picking up where the numbering left off-for me anyways) or to do a 40th Anniversay Collection line like they did with the 30th line in 2007 and out of those two scenarios, I think the latter is much more realistic.

I have heard that there are plans for a 3.75 Die Cast line in the works for 2017, maybe to slightly compete with Disneys 7in Elite Series (which I love) in a way of sorts but who the hell knows lol.

Regardless, 2017 could be very interesting and hears hoping we get some juicy info out of NYCC.

I couldn't find the Strange wave anywhere so I used the tried and true method that is 100% guaranteed to coax them out, for me anyway. So I bought the full set online and the I set out to hit the stores. Of course, both TRU's & several WMarts in my area suddenly had them and not surprisingly, they were already picked over. I dug through layers and rows of MCU Stranges and Karls and Voodoos, trying desperately no to pass out from boredom and I hit paydirt with Iron Fist. The only one at that TRU. Score! Three WMarts later I land Nico after getting one of the stockers to open one of the unopened a cases on the top shelf. Good day. Call it a day. I almost got out the damn door with minimal damage to my wallet, soooo close before curiosity got the best of me. I'd had so many good experiences with ML lately that almost gone was the bad taste left in my mouth with the Scourge and Iron Skull figs. I went back to the pegs. I just had to get a second look. I just needed to know, I couldn't stop myself. I had managed to convince myself, out of pure want, I think. That Karl figure......it can't be that bad, can it? I picked it up, felt the weight. It didn't feel like it came out of the garbage can. I looked at it, turned it to catch as much light as possible. If it's a turd, it's a nicely polished one. I actually smelled it. My eyes didn't water, not yet anyway. Honestly it smelled pretty good. I actually like the smell of new plastic. Just one more figure wouldn't hurt. It's in my budget until my online order comes in. I am certain the figure cannot be as bad as it looks. I don't think it's even possible.

Now, I hate being wrong. And by now it's happened enough times with some of the "lesser" MLMCU figs that you'd think I've learned my lesson by now. Unboxed, this POS is the most generic looking, bland & boring waste of space & time that I've ever purchased. I mean, I've paid money for some bad toys, but as a value per dollar ratio this is by far the worste one ever, hands down. Ole' Karl belongs in the bargain bin right now & it hasn't even hit most regions yet. Unless your purchasing it specifically for the BAF, take my advice and just pass, and I'm a completist. My eyes did end up watering after all, but not because it stank, but because it SUCKS!!! Karl officially surpasses Hasbro's Bucky or even Hasbro's first attempt at Emma Frost as the worst ML ever. This thing is so ugly I hadda double bag it before I put it in the storage bin with Iron Skull & Scourge. Ain't no way I'm letting it pollute my display shelves. I can only hope & pray that the character in the movie won't be fractionally as boring as the figure, but judging by the actor they chose for the part, I'm not holding my breath.

I dunno. He was pretty good in Serenity, and 13 Years s a Slave.

Judging from online it seems movie Dr. Strange is the rarest figure from this wave. I bought two because of this are others finding this to be true? I figured it was going to be Nico and Iron Fist as well since I found them hidden. I have a feeling they will end up being rare as well......what do you guys think?

While I was out doing the Force Friday rounds...last Friday...I found the entire wave 3-4 times over BUT never saw an Immortal Fist. Considering how amazing this figure is, I guess I shouldn't be surprised and he's definitely the wave winner for me. You truly have to see those energy hands in person to appreciate what an incredible job was done on them-they look hella cool.

@monron

Lol sounds like you'll need some blood pressure meds after that post lol. I'm particulary fond of the "double bagged" comment. My only beef is...why is Scourge in the garage? Why so much hate for my man Scourge!!!

Ya, I took a Zanax & kicked myself to sleep cuz I coulda used the $20 I spent on Karl to buy more Zanax.

As far as Scourge, I don't hate the character or the figure itself. The head sculpt is good. The belts and accessories are sufficient and somewhat accurate & aesthetically the MCU Electro buck is not a bad one, tho don't get me started on how bad the casting of the character was in ASM2 (hands down ruined the movie IMO, but that's an argument for another day).

What bugged me about Scourge is the scale. I'm a huge stickler for size accuracy when it comes to ML. For the most part Hasbro is pretty mindful about it as well and gets it right most of the time, but they do miss the mark occasionally and they really did it with this one. Any way you look at him, whether it be the Nuke or the Demolition Man version of Scourge, he's around the 6'3"-6'5" & 270-300 lb range. He warranted the Hyperion mold at very least with perhaps an exterior chest piece and some belts and weapons to do it right. It just seemed like a thrown together afterthought when it could have turned out to be one of those unexpected gems that pop up in ML from time to time. Then getting the actual Nuke figure and Cable figs, which were superb, just a few waves later only highlighted how awesome Scourge could have been given a little more TLC.

So let's just say I love the character, loved the head sculpt, loved the accessories, liked the concept, don't hate the buck, deplored the execution. I don't hate the individual aspects of the figure, but I hate them put together as a whole & whatever it was when they were done with it was not representative of the character that I've ever seen in the comics. As a matter of fact, they could have tweeked the face sculpt a bit, threw a breast plate with a white X on it and threw some shovel looking gauntlets on it and called it MCU Crossbones and I woulda been much happier with it. In actuality, I think that was the intent, but for some reason, whether it was political or contractual or other, it got scraped at the last second & they hadda make lemonade. Originally I was convinced it was due to the suicide bomber aspect tied to Rumlov in the movie but someone pointed out that they actually made one in the micro scale, so it kinda blew that theory back a bit.

I digress tho. The figure is not a bad one, not a total POS, but it's also not Scourge. What it WAS, I guess was just a letdown and a major disappointment. I sooooo just wanted another member of Thunderbolts to display with my SDCC box set, y'know. Lol, I guess I could just stand him in the back and act like he's somewhere in the distance.

Lol by far the most in depth and thought provoking review of the Scourge figure out there lol. Yeah, I would've loved him on a bigger buck and IF PIGS FLY AND WE GET AN MCU CROSSBONES...id be BEYOND pissed if they didn't use a bulky mold for him-need the mass and the ability to accentuate all of his badass gear or just don't even make it...(which is what they're doing...)
