Deadpool wave BAF reveal?!!

tarot

Recommended Posts

In the Canadian Expo has revealed the Deadpool BAF for his up coming wave.

I'll put it this wave. Deadpool is from Canadian.

We just got a Man-Thing.

What happens when we get a Man-Thing figure?

We get a Sasquatch repaint/resculpt. (don't know what I mean. Look at every Sasquatch figure ever made an you will see he always is a repaint of a previous Man-Thing figure).

I guess congrats are in order to our brothers up North for the......ML Canadian Wave? Wow, hit me outta left field. You coulda given me 10 guesses on who the BAF was gonna be and old Sassy woulda been way low on the list. Not only because he's not known for his interactions with DP, but I also just assumed he was the only character that made sense as the BAF for the Cap Marvel wave. Maybe they'll pull a double WTF and make Strong Guy the BAF for that wave. Oh well, at least it wasn't a Build-an-Arm for cable or some other BS like the Homecoming wave.

I'm a little worried about this one, though. When the Man-Thing figure came out I noticed, as I'm sure many of us did, that it would be fairly easy to retool the mold to make a Sasquatch fig, but comparing the Man-Thing to other BAFs, it was clear that he was far too short to serve as Walter Langkowski's alter ego. It's quite well known, and easily researchable, that Sasquatch towers over Hulk, Colossus, Juggernaut & most everyone else in the Marvel Universe. The figure itself looks amazing so I'm hoping Hasbro, who's been very good at keeping true to characters height & size to this point, has also noticed this and taken that into account. Honestly, the upper torso is pretty spot on and a simple extension of the upper thigh & possibly the shin, since it's gonna require a bit of retooling anyway, would make it more faithful to the source material. Sadly though, just looking at the figure compared to the DP he's standing over, it looks to be about the same size. It could just be the awkward angle the picture was taken though. Hopefully that's the case. Well at least we can put the Warpath rumor to rest. I'm happy to have been mistaken but I suppose there's still a chance he'll make it into the wave as a single card. There have only been 5 figs revealed, after all.

Oh well, Guido. One day your ship is bound to come in. The list of feasible "Big Guys" grows shorter with every wave. Maybe they're just holding out so they can get your look just perfect before they pull the trigger.

You ain't kiddin'! Sasquatch is 10' tall! To be honest, with the plethora of lousy artists we've been given, he hasn't been portrayed that large in a while. What's funny is when I was at the Con, Tony Colella challenged me to guess what the BAF would be for the Deadpool wave. The only clues he gave was that the character was large and that he/she was tied to both the X-Men and Deadpool in some way. I told him my heart pick would always be Sauron and that coincidentally he does have ties (if loosely) to both (X-Men foe and was part of Weapon X), but I told him if I had to guess, Id say Sasquatch. He of course gave no sign. I then told him whether you do him in either this wave or the upcoming Captain Marvel wave, make sure he's big enough. I told him he should be Hulkbuster height. His eyes then went wide like he was thinking "he ain't gonna be THAT big"!

But....but....BUT....we've only ever gotten ONE Man-Thing figure, and the Sasquatch figure was bigger than that.

After the closer look I must say I'm solidly disappointed. He is quite simply the exact same figure as Man-Thing without the flowers & vines. Even if Sasquatch had come out before Man-Thing it woulda been very clear that his legs are way too short. I knew a Sasquatch update had to be somwehere in the works and after all the awesome work Hasbro has done as of late I was confident they were ready to knock it outta the park. Way to fumble the ball. This is the one time you were not able to out do Toybiz's original design. Next time try to reference the source artwork. It's not hard to find. If you don't have access to the comics it's easily searchable online. If you think I'm being petty or nitpicky just ask yourself this simple question. Should Sasquatch be the same height or possibly even shorter than Sandman, Absorbing Man or Bor....Bor? I'll save you the trouble of answering cuz everyone already knows the answer is a huge "HELL NO". But he is. Shoulda just gone with Strong Guy.

Their whole scaling is out-of-whack. I think this will be reused for Beast tho

If so, then that would be even more egregious than this! The Beast at 5'11 needs approximately ZERO Build-A-Figure. Hasbro got the 7'5 Colossus in a one card box (and made it work). If we want the X-Men scale to be totally outta wack, go right ahead with a Beast BAF.

My bad. It was meant to be 2 different statements. The reply on how their scale is outta wack...all of their sculpts are now 6 1/4" on up......and looking at how Sasquatch is made, arms/legs/hands/feet...even the head, I see parts of Beast. The feet and face are what did it. No idea how they would do the rest to make him shorter tho

I do believe we'll get a Beast next year. We need a Gambit redo more though. Then there's Psylocke and Jubilee (in her shorts). Hasbro has been giving us the Blue team (Jim Lee) X-Men 1st. They're only giving us one wave per year (a shame considering we get multiple Spider-Man waves yearly) so it's gonna take until 2019 to hopefully complete the team.

Okay, so I'd like to start off by acknowledging that my initial fear that Sasquatch was nothing more than a retooled Man-Thing was completely wrong. I'll be the first to admit it, but I must point out that my hysteria was fueled by the fact that the guy who got to see & handle the actual figure incorrectly described it as just that. In his defense I'm sure he was taken quite by surprise & was given only a limited amount of time for pics & examination and to take in as much data as possible.

The first reveal pictures were very poorly taken & at strange angles and the figure was posed awkwardly. Additionally, the video was about as shakey & badly framed as the alleged videos taken of the mythical creature from whom ole' Sassy derives his namesake. After studying all pics, specifically the official press images, I can comfortably say with 100% certainty that this figure is a completely unique sculpt from the Man-Thing sculpt. The biggest indicator is the cut at the obliques. Notice that Sasquatch's cut angles down while Manny's angles up. Secondly there is no indication that, other than the piece around his neck & shoulders, the torso is some sort of cladding or plastic form around a smaller buck as was the case with the Mr. Thang. Lastly, closely studying the legs of both figures it's quite clear that Sasquatch's are not only longer but much bulkier & his biceps are much larger. So, overall I'm starting to feel better & better about the outlook of this figure. The one thing I am still somewhat concerned about is the final height. I still maintain that he looks short, but like I said, the angles were bad, the video is garbage, so I'll just remain hopeful that Hasbro holds with their standard of keeping figures as size accurate as they have in the past. In reality, going off the Comic database alone, he's only 10' tall compared to Juggernaut's 9'5", so if this figure is maybe a half inch or so taller than Juggy I would consider it a solid success and take back everything critical I've said about the figure thus far. But.....that still remains to be seen, doesn't it? And for those who have been saying he's too bulky I ask that you refer to the original artwork of John Byrne which I believe this figure is largely based on. I personally like it very much and I think that claim is based on the Toybiz figure which was excellent and totally in proper height scale with the other figures of the time, but way too lanky IMO.

So overall, this figure has much more potential today than it did yesyerday. Let's hope things continue to improve as we get more information. Off the topic of the 'Squatch, a Warpath or Bishop reveal to finish the wave would be icing on the cake, but I think another female is probably in the final game plan. C'mooooon Siren or Emma. Either/or would be awesome. And don't worry Strong Guy, you got next, baby!!! I mean, after Nimrod, Sauron, Colossonaut, Cyber, Omega Red, probably another Blob, maybe a Brood Queen redo, Sugar Man, Xavier's chair, Rockslide, uuuumm.....Cameron Hodge, Mammomax (of course), can't let that Mojo figure go, that one motorcycle Gambit & Rogue rode that one time, don't forget Sunder joined for a little while & died, I think Lorna Dane turned huge for a bit, Blockbuster made it for a few panels before Thor dropped the hammer on him (literally), I think there was a big guy with the Sojourn, wasn't there big stupid looking guy on Cable's Six Pack back in the day, that weird lizard/alien looking guy from the new Brotherhood is kinda big if you squint your eyes real hard. But after that it's all you, Guido my friend.

LOL @ "Team Strong Guy"!

Even though we can get away with it, the Juggernaut BAF is based on classic Cain who was only (heh) 6'10, making the Build-A-Figure WAY out of scale! But then the Man-Thing who's 7'0 is well under. Because Hasbro has scales out of wack in many of their larger figures (the "Battle for Asgard" set for example is totally out of wack! The two largest figures (Bor & Ulik) are shorter than Thor (Odinson) 6'5, 6'4 & 6'6 respectively, while the tallest character (Malekith-6'9) is only taller than (Jane Foster) Thor).

The character I believe you're speaking of is Grizzly (unless you're talking about Anaconda). I'm glad you had Sauron near the top of your "Guido comes after" list. LOL
