Why is this forum so uptight about swearing?

I don't understand why swearing is such a horrible offense around here. What's the deal with this? I fully understand that you have a note about it on the terms of use when you register, but I'm talking about reasoning for the policy. Is it here because of young children? Are you guys (owners/mods) deeply religious or something? It just seems very silly and archaic to have a rule like this on a forum full of adults (or people who are at least old enough to have heard the f-word before). Please shed some light on this silliness so that I can feel a little less annoyed after my posts have been deleted due to someone apparently being unable to handle a word.

you began your diatribe with "I don't understand..."

throwing "deeply religious" out there is a knee-jerk reaction. you stopped short of calling the admins and mods WASPs or Conservative Bible Thumpers because of a forum RULE - clearly laid out when you joined the site.

you say some people are unable to handle a word. interesting. apparently you are also unable to handle rules.

archaic? so morals, ethics, and standards are now deemed archaic? disheartening to say the least.

your screen name indicates that you appreciate the dark side. "of the death," if you will. now there's nothing wrong with that, right? no one attacks you for that. you have that right to express yourself. you could have chosen "dellafu@kinmorte," but you didn't find the need to include the F word. well then, there you go. you censored yourself, or a potential thought. keep doing that.

swearing is lazy and reflects a void.

There's no point where I said that. I said in the post that I know there's a rule about swearing. I was simply inquiring about why we have this rule as well as issuing my best guess as to why it's here. The question still stands.

Wait, what? Are you putting words on the same scale as other things that are measured morally? I think you're missing the point if you look at words as something more than just what they are: words.

My screen name's just a reference to a movie I like. The fact that I choose not to insert swear words into literally everything I type doesn't paint my argument into a corner (I seriously have no idea how you jumped to that conclusion).

This is an opinion. Does the fact that you disagree with something wholly justify complete censorship in your eyes? Would you be so smug about this if the forum rules weren't in favor of your views?
