Iron Man's Ideal wave

Great ideas. I would love to see this become a reality and right there with you on Pepper Potts. I would love to have her but with an unmasked head. Also its about time we got another Hasbro comic version of Black Widow. The last one was done before Return of Legends.

That list is great. I would only replace Rescue with a dope comic version of Whiplash. Also, like it or hate it, they JUST released a Rescue (which comes with that annual $99 subscription if memory serves correct) so the idea of them releasing another Rescue anytime soon (let alone a better version) for only $20 by comparison, seems highly unrealistic.

The same could be said of the SDCC Sandman, Enchantress, and Abomination. We got those sometime later granted they are repaints.

Exactly, Enchantress, and Voodoo all were fetching higher than the normal $20 MSRP when they were only exclusives. Fair is fair, bring on Rescue. Don't even get me started on Dormammu.

well the MCU subscription has changed to Captain Marvel now so that Rescue figure will skyrocket in price. also note that while I did buy the figure via ebay, I feel that many countries outside the US were shafted when they couldn't get her.

but I really put her in cause I wanted hasbro to rerelease just like Enchantress but Like I said in an old NCS, they could do another version.

but truthfully..................it was between her and Iron Heart but I felt we needed an ANAD Iron Man for before we jump into Riri......................and don't get me started on the legal issue of Doom.

I agree, Rescue belongs in this wave and it's just Hasbro's M.O. to rerelease a previously exclusive figure with a slightly different paint deco and/or alternate head sculpt. I have no problem with that & I would also purchase it even though I do have the Marvel Unlimited version. Just like Enchantress, Sandman & Dormammu, the subtle differences from the mass release figures are what makes it exclusive.

As far as the list, I love the concept. Personally I've always though the Spider-Man line is the best of all ML, primarily because it continues every year regardless whether there's a movie that year or not. Actually, the waves in which there were no movie tie in were the best because not only do we get comic accurate versions of the many looks and variations of Spidey but we also get an assortment of villains and other heroes that might not otherwise make their way into the Avengers or Captain America lines which always include MCU figures.

This year Spider-Man will have a movie and any wave this year, after the Sandman wave will most deffinately include MCU figures as well. So, with the original Iron Man trilogy over I think the time is right for Iron Man to take up the reigns as the Marvel property to have a mostly comic based line in the absence of any movie, at least until the next Avengers movie. He's got a big enough recognition factor, a ton of cool figures to fill 2 or three waves a year similar to the Spider-Man line and we really, really need new non MCU versions of Iron Man, War Machine and Black Widow. It's pretty ridiculous that we have 3 comic versions of Strange since the Infinite line began and 0 comic versions of IM. The Bleeding Edge IM from the Epic Heroes line was good, but damn it's really short compared to the Infinite line and it just doesn't look right. Is it just me?

Anyway, this particular list is a bit Stark heavy for me. Assuming there would be more than one wave I think only one Iron Man per wave is enough. I'd be happy with either Renaissance IM or Superior IM, just give us any comic version at this point. I'd much prefer a modern War Machine over a Dark Reign version though. I'm in total agreement with Rescue, Black Widow, Living Laser and Mandarin but rather than a second IM I'd like a Crimson Dynamo redo, Blacklash (not Whiplash) instead of Grey Gargoyle, and the Hulk sized version of Titanium Man for the BAF.

It's all just my own opinion, but these are the figures I've personally been wishing for and I think have been deserving of figures for a long, long time now.

If you like Spider-Man you should check out my ideal wave for spidey although it's more rhino wave with many street level heroes then spidey villain heavy like the last few waves.

I also did a strange wave but that was because that wave was fairly bad

My position on Rescue and why I believe she won't be redone/repacked is because she was the SOLE exclusive to that subscription. By that logic, I don't put her in the same camp as the SDCC box sets of years past which include figures that have been re-released AND figures that have, and will stay, exclusive to that set-I just wanted to clarify my thought process.

As far as the SDCC sets go, I personally think it's super lame to release ONLY sets AND release sets that just get chopped up and partially re-released as individual, non exclusive releases. I would much rather see SDCC exclusives just comprise of 2-3 separate single carded exclusive figures and have them STAY exclusives. This eliminates feeling of frustration collectors may have when they buy these sets only to see said sets get partially broken down and repacked into regular waves AND it helps out the collector who is maybe only interested in 1, 2 or 3 figures of an SDCC set but has to spend the full price and buy all the figures of the set in order to only get the ones he/she really wanted in the first place. If the exclusive is a single carded figure, you can choose to buy it if you want it or pass if you don't need it-no strings attached. Lastly, I completely understand Hasbro on why they choose "sets" but I just happen to disagree with them. Just my opinion, nothing more.

As far as an Iron Man wave goes, that sure would be killer but we all know as long as Hasbro stays true to their current course of how they release legend waves, we won't see one until a potential Iron Man 4 comes out. It stinks but it is what it is for right now.

granted it's not a wave that will be becoming soon.

You see when I do these waves I try and do them as if I was on Hasbro side. first we have to have the main character in. when selecting him I try and look at what people usually ask for. In the case of Iron man for instance I know that Superior has been asked for. Then I look at what hasn't been done yet and not ask yet but would be a nice addition to the line while still keeping the classic colors.

similarity,as for the side characters, I look for 3 thing, who is close to the main, who need a desparate update and who can help complete a team. War Machine and Rescue are obvious as they are Iron Man best friends with Black Widow in a need of a comic book update.

Same thing with the vilians but I also include how essential they are for the Main, Mandarin need a figure....................period and Living Laser is a nice character who is central villain for IM while Gargoyle is a new nod to the 90's cartoon while still being a important character to both IM, Thor and many other heroes.

.

and the most important thing I think of is can they make it. by that I mean the sculpt. Hasbro are cheap, no denying that. and while the IM and WM will more then likely need new sculpt, the rest can use older sculpts. Black widoe could use either the MCU build or maybe Misty Knight build. Use the BAF in this wave Controller. he is a big beefy character so he could use either the Thanos Build or if they want to over size him the Juggernaut build. (although I really want a Ultimo baf but I thing a Controller is much more realistic.)

all in all I have to be realistic with these and look at it from both a fan and hasbro perception. I could list off hundreds figure I wanted in this wave it's not likely they will be made.

Does this make any sense?...............................also Hasbro I would love a job in your planning department. LOL :P

It does make sense and that's been my approach in the past as well. The assumption is that Hasbro looks to go about the cheapest route possible to maximize amount of charactets in any wave. At this point Hasbro has a ton of old and new sculpts they can use as "filler" characters and there are still plenty of "Spandex" characters that can be made using these bucks with paint apps and head sculpts and any number of accessories they have on hand. I'm totally cool with this personally and I just don't understand people who complain so much about reused molds.

What confuses me is, assuming it's true about Hasbro being "cheap" about new sculpts, why do we get new sculpts (or at least altered sculpts) for characters like Mockingbird, Nico & even Beetle. These are minor changes to existing scupts but they are new sculpts nonetheless. They still require new molds to be mass produced. Additionally, aside from the Iron Man and Captain America (and now the new Drax) that have been reused maybe once, just about every MCU figure requires a new sculpt and that's after the additional costs for licensing and character likenesses which may or may not have been worked into the original contracts. Believe me, the actors aren't going into a facial scanning session without being compensated.

So, the assumption can be fairly made that it probably costs a hell of a lot more to produce an MCU figure than most Marvel Comics figures. Under this thinking how much would producing maybe two new sculpts and maybe five or six reused sculpts per wave in a three Comic wave year really cost Hasbro versus three MCU waves per year?

The Movie based waves are what convince the stores to stock the products, but the Comic/Collector based waves typically seem to be the better selling waves. As stated before, Iron Man has the name recognition. He's recognizable to comic and movie fans alike. An Iron Man comic line similar to the Spider-Man line is a sure money bomb using the following format:

Wave 1 (villains & allies theme)

1 Superior Iron Man - new sculpt

2 War Machine - new sculpt

3 Rescue - reused

4 Blacklash - Spider UK buck

5 Black Widow - Misty Knight buck

6 Living Laser - Pizza Spidey buck

7 Melter - Bucky Cap buck

8 USAgent - redo with Hyperion buck

BAF - Larger version of Titanium Man

Wave 2 (Avengers theme)

1 Renaissance IM - new sculpt

2 Crimson Dynamo - new sculpt

3 Tigra - Moonstone buck

4 Stingray - Spider UK buck

5 Spectrum - Medusa buck

6 Hercules - Dormammu or Colossus buck

7 Mandarin - Coulson buck

8 Grey Gargoyle - Reaper buck

BAF - Firepower

Wave 3 (Dark Reign theme)

1 Extremis Armor redo - new sculpt

2 Iron Patriot - new sculpt

3 Heads man - Hyperion buck

4 Quake/Maria Hill/Yo-Yo- Kate Bishop buck

5 Bullseye - ANAD Spidey 2099 buck

6 Ares - redo on Hyperion buck

7 Bushwhacker - Reaper buck

8 Elektra - Moonstone buck

BAF - Mister Hyde or Skaar

As usual, the list could go on and on. Statistics show, throughout all toy lines, whoever the focal character is, the key to positive sales is character diversity. Listening to interviews of the Hasbro ML team during Toy Fair & Comic Con, I personally get the impression that they want to do so much more with the massive wealth of available characters in the Marvel Universe but their hands are tied by the higher-ups who want them to concentrate on pushing as much MCU property as possible.
