Sample of the interview:
Hiddleston said the main thing that motivates Loki in "The Avengers" is the same thing that motivates him in "Thor," which is "his tragic jealousy."
"It's a jealousy that is borne out of a spiritual leeriness and his sense of confusion as to where he belongs in this universe," said the British actor. "In the absence of a place like Asgard, he misguidedly tries to form a community of his own. But given that he's a born prince and (ultimately becomes) a king, he decides that his community is going to be on Earth and he will rule the human race as their king."
Judging from his actions in the debut trailer from "The Avengers" this week, Hiddleston said there's no mistaking that some of his actions in the film won't be as subtle as "Thor.
"He's not a happy man," Hiddleston said with a laugh. "He's in need of being in a happy place and thinking happy thoughts. He's seeing a lot more action and there's a lot more menace. In order for the film to work, Loki needs to be much more menacing in order to justify the might of several superheroes coming up against him."
