I HATE Moving! Hate! Hate!

Recommended Posts

Yes, I hate it.

Hate it with A PASSION!

I hate the packing, I hate the hauling the crap onto the truck, I hate the stress of not being sure you are getting a big enough truck, I hate worrying about sh*t getting broken.

I hate the turmoil, the emotion exhaustion--and my back is uttering all-new cuss words at me now too....

(channeling Jonathan Harris: the Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnn!)

So.........yea. I did a move.

Landlord wanted the house we were renting back and honestly, they could have it. Guess they've had some drama in their lives so they direct their attention to the easiest solution; get us out so they can move in.

Hey, no problem........after a distressful week of searching back in May and not finding anything, we found a beautiful 13 year old custom built home, from some people we actually know.

The old joint was a dump--a 70's era cabin added onto and "renovated" by someone with monkey jizz for brains. Hey, the landlord can have it back--we traded up!

The new place is muuuuuuuuuuuuch better.

I just cannot convey the immediate total mood change in moving into a house where everything fits. Wall panels are neatly trimmed and secured, siding is intact and well kept. Electrical outlets everywhere.

Lots of space.......1300 sq feet--two floors. Vaulted ceiling and wood panelling throughout. New appliances, and the joint is so big that we'll need an intercom to reach someone on the otherside of the place. We are a city block from a lake, in a smaller subdivision out in the rural Cariboo--1 acre plot. And we got a hot tub/spa with the place too--so that took care of my aching back.

Oh, and it has a 800 sq foot hobby room. Oh ( truly) joy!

One of the really despressing things about the old place was that we moved into it sight-unseen. We needed a place to retreat to after a debacle in another province, and my wife had a job offer waiting nearby. When we arrived the house was clean enough, but the landlords are smokers, and well.......quite frankly the place was a sh*t-hole. Take a place "added to" by a "handyman" whose a bit less than handy......and.......well.............the first winter we were there the patio they built collapsed from snow.

The place was sorta cramped--things like storage just shoe-horned into places where there was room. The house wasn't designed so much as it was tinkered with. Tinkered unto dump-status. We would have bought the placed, fixed it up, rebuilt and renovated. It had "good bones" they call it, but the veneer was crap. The emotional toll of the place was high enough, and I can see now the new house will become our home.

So, I despise the journey, but the destination is some nice digs.

But next time ( like last time) we SWEAR will get a moving company!

Or we just won't ever move again!

I hope.

I've done waaaaay too much of it myself, in the last 4 years (4 times) and if I NEVER do it again, will be too soon.

God awful business it is, and asking friends or family to help, can almost guarantee they won't be friends much longer, and family practically disowns ya. ^_^

Maybe a package of goodies will show up this week and make things a little better? ;)

And I cannot thank ye enough for that too!

5 times in 7 years for me, 3 of those inside of the first 2 years--but I went from single guy to hubbie in that process-so the household gained a lot more stuff.

Funny thing is.......the bulk of the moving--a good 50% of it was my toy collection!

Yikes.............there's a time to reap, now looks like a time to sow.........

Know the feeling...

My wife and I are in the process of buying a house right now. We just finished the hastle of finding a good mortgage lender, filling out the loan application and all of the papers that come with it, finding insurance, and finding a home inspector. Now, we've started packing while waiting for the appraisal and loan approval (which we shouldn't have a problem with).

I don't really mind the packing part...that always seems easiest. It's the moving itself, and unpacking that I hate. @lol@

I'll be nice once we're finally into it, which should happen around the end of July if everything goes right. :)

Yikes! I hope the wife is understanding about all of that. I suppose as long as you did the moving, she can't complain too much.

Ha, tis funny, b/c I'm jealous of you! I wish I were moving right now. I live at home- still with my parents, and if I were able to move out RIGHT NOW, I would joyously pack up and go. lol

I wouldn't grumble and complain (not that I don't blame you! I'd be moving my self, not a family or anyone else), b/c my goal in life -right now- is to be able to afford to MOVE OUT! ^_^

HAH!

Be careful what you wish for! ^_^

You don't know what ya got...till it's GONE! I had the same attitude when I was 18 and couldn't wait to get the hell out of dodge (parents home..well MY home also for 18 years) and before I got married (the first time) I did the typical slumming it out with other friends or girlfriends, leaving in cheap, unfurnished apartments together, eating fastfood al lthe time. Then I tried the solo routine for awhile and got semi-domesticated, and finally married...once! Then divorced...and then married again, and now seperated!

MAN-O-MAN would I love to go back and live with mom and dad right now! @smilepunch@

I've never been so spoiled, as when I go over there for visits and they pamper me and want me to stay longer or spend the night and hangout, and Mom cooks meals for me and just plain ol' load me down with attention and caring. ^_^

I wouldn't rush it, if it isn't vital to your sanity just yet.

Arrow, you know where you should move????

Someplace without the internet. @loll@ @smilepunch@

You lucked out.

I did move to someplace "without" internet.

Okay, you ALMOST lucked out.

Got no cable connection, got no wi-fi, no highspeed wireless of any kind. No sattellite connection....yet.........all I got is a phone. Cell phones won't even work out here, as there is no line-of-sight tower--and no plans to install one for the time being.

We moved to a place 25 miles off the main hwy, in the middle of the farkin' woods, and the phone lines here are spit.

Okay, they were supposed to be spit.

Two weeks ago the phone company upgraded them in the area, and I can connect faster than I have for a year---on dial-up tis true, but I was really worried the phones would have me connecting at a baud rate of 14.4 kps or something stupid like that. For a year now, my baud rate was no better than a solid 44 kps. Last night, first time logging on on my own 'puter, I got 46.6kps. which is a good 20% faster. My wife's laptop hit 50.2 kps last night. The nice thing is that later on, I can get a sattellite service for about $1000 that'll supply me with good ol' cable-like high speed--and makes living in the BC woods like living in a suburb of a big city. Man, it just don,t get better than that, I think.

So you almost lucked out, but I actually lucked out. :)

VH, I'm 24 years old, and I don't have it THAT good. lol My poor mom is miserable, and my dad and I are at constant war, b/c I'm a girl with a BRAIN. I don't want to stay at home and become a housewife drone... So that's fun. It's more than that though. I don't exactly like having to call them everyday and tell them whether I'll be home for dinner. I don't like to have to answer to them, now that I am an adult, fully able to take care of myself, and Joe, if need be. I just don't like being here, b/c this place is such a drain on energy. It's DEPRESSING here.

We're both ready to get the hell out of dodge, but we are waiting til we are financially able to do so... even at the detriment of my sanity! :D I just can't wait to get out of here. I can't wait to get married, eventually, being able to go home to Joe everyday won't necessarily be bliss EVERYDAY, we'll have our moments, but it'll sure be a hell of a lot better than coming home to my parents everyday. <_>

    • Gunn said something stupid and for once in the history of forever a d**k got what he had coming. End of story. Personal responsibility. Pass it on.
    • Since he was so sorry and apologetic about his tweets,  why not delete them? And this whole "I was being a provocateur" excuse is laughable. The reality is that the things he said we're so reprehensible and perverse there was no believable explanation he could offer,  so he just said he was joking... Yes, joking about serious issues does not immediately mean that the person is involved in them. I'll give you that,  but this wasn't just one tweet,  this was a whole series of horrible tweets, not one of which was funny in any way, all revolving around the same subject,  pedophilia. Which should raise a Red flag in most people's eyes. Often where there is smoke, there is fire. Especially in Hollywood. Have you ever heard of anyone by the name Weinstein, Spacey, or Singer? I agree that people can certainly change,  but why not go back and delete those tweets? The mere fact that Gunn left these up on twitter, suggests to me that he was never all that concerned or apologetic about their content. If I was to tweet something awful, get called out on it, and was truly apologetic, I would go out of my way to remove the offensive tweets. And while I know the GOTG cast has said he isn't the same person he was back then, let's not pretend that any of the cast actually know what Gunn does in his private life. My opinion on Dave Bautista is just that,  an opinion and I stand by it.
Gunn is the one who really mishandled this situation. A public figure like Gunn should know his tweets will be held to a higher standard & yes these vile tweets will probably define him for some time, quite fairly in my opinion. However,  I don't think this sends a message to your average person,  that no matter how much they've changed as a person they'll always be defined by their lowest point, as they are simply regular people & not public figures like Gunn, the millionaire Hollywood director. The sheer volume & subject matter of Gunn's tweets were beyond awful & extremely disturbing. A public figure like Gunn should know better than to post these sort of things that would come come back to haunt him, & had he been sorry enough for tweeting about how much he enjoy's little boys touching his "naughty place", he would have deleted them, however here we are today & it feels like more than anything else,  he's sorry he got caught.
    • Gunn did explain the purpose behind those tweets, expressing that his intention those years ago was to act as a provocateur. He additionally had already apologized for his raunchy attempts at humor. I don't think that joking about serious issues in such a way necessarily means that a person has a thing for them, especially if the purpose of those "jokes" is to cause a reaction. It's making a joke which is offensive for the sake of it being offensive, and not necessarily to insinuate some kind of depraved fetish. There have been many news of idiot tourists making the Nazi salute in Germany, which doesn't automatically entail they're Nazis. They're just idiots (at the very least, hopefully). I believe this is a similar case with James Gunn.

His tweets are disgusting, and don't say anything nice about the person he was in 2010. However, Gunn himself and the people he has closely worked with for over five years expressed that he has changed and that he's no longer the kind of person those tweets reflect. I don't think any kind of conclusion from this incident should be made without taking those people into account. And I don't think it's appropriate to assume Dave Bautista is depraved solely based on his stance from this situation. He knows much more about James Gunn than the slim portion most people get to see. Gunn's situation has been mishandled for the most part by people online, and shows a toxic mentality. It tells people that it doesn't matter how much they have changed as a person, their lowest point will always define them. And just in case there's any doubt, I don't mean to defend James Gunn's tweets, or the type of "humor" we waved like a flag back then. I don't even want to pretend to know what course of action Disney should've taken. It's a slippery slope, but there should be some balance between painting him as a misunderstood saint and a depraved would-be child-molester.
    • Pedophilia is not something that should EVER be joked about. It is a real problem worldwide and it is horrible. The tweets made by James Gunn were extremely insensitive and vile,  especially to victims and their families. Not one of these so called jokes were funny and they suggest that Mr. Gunn at the very least is a sick individual who could very well be involved in pedophilia in some form. He is simply not fit to direct anything until all of these "jokes" are adequately explained. I find it very sad & pathetic that so many people have defended Gunn and his disgusting tweets. It speaks volumes when thousands jump to the defense of a man who has endorsed pedophilia & may himself be a pedophile, simply because he directed a couple of entertaining movies. Here's to hoping that Disney will fire Dave Bautista too. He has been the most vocal of Gunn's supporters and I suspect has some disturbing skeletons in his closet as well.
    • I'll give you this, the figure is a perfect match for this wave. There are one or two winners, a killer BAF, and the rest are just... why?
