Customization tips & tools

Ok so this is basically for ideas from everyone so that anyone reading this can get a better idea as to how to customize whatever they want. For instance, does anyone know what to use when sanding down a face to avoid damaging the rest of its features? Or even, what are some good tools to use when customizing? Any ideas and suggestions and tips are appreciated.

Emory Boards! You know the things your mom used to do her nails when you were a kid? They hold an edge better than sandpaper while coming in just as many grits as sandpaper...

Plus they're dirt cheap!

What about stuck joints? My Baron Zemo's left lower leg doesn't swivel rt to left. Please help me because the last time this happened I broke it off.

throw it in the freezer for a couple of hours and then carefully turn it around. What happens is that the paint is still wet when the figure is assembled and then dries, locking it in place. Changes in temperature can make it easier to crack the paint - I find freezing them works better than boiling though it does take longer.

sharp objects are good

take care of your tools, and try and get at least decent quality stuff. I've got some tools that are metal with wood handles, which I hate because the metal is weak and the tools aren't staying housed in the wooden grips.

some of my files and such have lost a lot of their grit.

also learn patience....don't rush....and learn when to call it quits, or you too will know the purgatory that is the never ending WIP phase.
