I got mine today!!!!!!!!!!!

I was super pissed because this order has been listed as "out for delivery" by USPS since 9am yesterday, and I didn't get it until 2pm today. But DAMN were these figures worth the wait.

Scarlet Spider is the lackluster part of the wave for me. I have the least connection to this character. It's on the same old Big-Time/FF Spidey body, but I AM impressed with how much mileage they've been able to get out of it. The costume design, while eye-catching, is still simplistic and ordinary.

Wrecker is a favorite. While he's still on the same body as Piledriver and Thunderball, he still has enough additions and details on him to distinguish him from the others and stand out. His face puts him over the top, lol. The other Wrecking Crew look like they're taking their mugshot photos, but Wrecker is CLEARLY reacting to some serious situation. He would be great to display in a fight scene. Wrecker is a scene-stealer.

Hawkeye! I grew up with comics in the 90s, so I have a very distinct image in my head of what Hawkeye is supposed to look like. This isn't it. But that said, this modern representation is really sleek. His basic body is automatically punched up a few notches with the purple metallic paint and all the pouches everywhere. While I will likely still display Heroic Age Hawkeye if he is released, if he's NOT, I would be perfectly content to let this represent Hawkeye in my ML display.

Black Panther is WOW. This action figure has no metallic paint. It has no sculpted detail on the costume whatsoever. It only features two colors, blue and black. But damn if this isn't the most PERFECT representation of Black Panther I could have ever imagined. His face sculpt holds enough aggression and calculation in the expression beneath the mask. His hand sculpts are ready for some serious altercation. His eyes are an ominous and piercing silver. His body is the perfect build. I have NO complaints whatsoever and can't imagine anything that would make this figure better. At all. Point blank. Period. Second favorite of the whole wave.

Rocket Raccoon is a riot. We all know the character is ridiculous. But it's well represented and has enough articulation to get the point across. I count about five points/options of articulation in one arm alone, though the body has no articulation from the waist down, unless you count the ball/socket tail. And of course he has a hinged jaw so he can scream all sorts of obscenities as he charges into battle. Totally awesome and fun. Possibly third favorite of the wave, just for the novelty of him.

And last but MOST, Jean Grey, the Jim Lee costume. I have waited a LONG time for this figure. I bought the 6 inch Onslaught toy line Jean Grey, but at the time, most of my X-Men figures were 5 inch. I bought the 5 inch space invader Jean Grey, because she was wearing the Jim Lee costume underneath all the space gear. I wrote letters when they canceled the X-Men toyline right before the wave featuring an accurate 5 inch Jim Lee Jean Grey (though she had some phoenix flame flying glider thing she could attach to). But at LAST... FINALLY...... Jim Lee Jean Grey! From the wait and buildup alone this figure wins my favorite hands down.

Jean's upper torso is a swirly glittery blue plastic with yellow painted on, while her lower torso is a yellow plastic with the glittery blue painted on, but these match seamlessly as far as I can tell. The shoulder pads are a sculpted on addition to the torso. The gauntlets on her arms are a separate piece that spin wherever you want them to. The head sculpt is flawless and attractive. The color is yellow with just enough orange hue to balance between the two color variations on the costume and be viewed as either if you squint hard enough, lol.

But, there is an imperfection in the paint apps on her belt. The "x" is off-centered from where it's sculpted, so it's SO ruined! She's still my favorite, but I need to get another one. So I did. LOL. Fortunately, if there's a paint flaw in the face of the next one I get, I can just swap the heads. I waited too long for this Jean Grey to accept less than perfect.

All-in-all, a THRILLING wave! So happy to finally have it!

Nice previous post. I got mine from BBTS. The Jean Grey is by far my favorite. I think they are scrapping the AoA version of her, but I hope they do not. I'm looking forward to the variants of this wave and will buying all of them. Is Hasbro batting zero for "running changes"? I think they are. Can anyone refresh my memory? Hopefully, they will all come out at some point.

Thanks!

Technically Hasbro isn't batting zero, they actually initiated the concept of different characters as running changes with Thunderball/Piledriver and Madame Masque/Viper. And should remind you that the running changes offered us an alternate "Red Skull" version of BAF Arnim Zola, a running change in itself.

Toy Biz did a color-based running change on the BAF Apocalypse and the Wal-Mart exclusive Sentry figures (creating that unprecedented "double variant", of which I own all four versions, I'm both proud and embarrassed to admit). But to do a running change to offer a completely different character, different tooling (heads), well we owe that concept to Hasbro. Sadly, we only really had one wave give us a taste of how cool that is, and then... nothing. Well actually, they kind of piggy-backed off the idea from Toy Biz's last official wave, where the variants of Spider-Woman, Thorbuster Iron Man, and Captain Marvel were different characters, but I THINK they were officially classified as variants, instead of running changes. I think a running change means that production officially stops on the first version, and the second version is produced in its place. I think a variant is produced concurrently, meaning you could find both versions shipped in the same case, etc.

Hasbro also did running changes with the two-packs (series 2 only), swapping out:

Nick Fury for Dum Dum Dugan

Maria Hill for Sharon Carter

Hand Ninja for Chaste Ninja

Iron Man for Stealth Iron Man

Series 3 of the two-packs was only costume variants, and after the "Return of Marvel Legends" wave 2 with the character-swapping running changes, not one wave since has produced the running changes promised. I'm assuming it has to do with retailer sales. If ML isn't performing well enough at retailers, they may not place a second order of inventory, leaving that second order (which contains the running changes) sitting in the warehouse produced but not sold. I'm purely guessing that's what these distribution problems are, since every Toys R Us I walk into has a million "Protectors" sitting around and nothing else.

Still unreleased Running Changes are:

Moonstar

Blade

Deadpool (Red) - though still technically available through the Series 3 two-pack

Future Foundation Dr. Doom - though it looks like a small quantity was released in the UK

Lyra

X-Force Archangel - though available through the 2012 SDCC set

Iron Fist (modern, white)

Sentry

Bulldozer

Heroic Age Hawkeye

Phoenix (white)

Jean Grey (Age of Apocalypse) - I too wonder whether this one will make it, since it didn't appear at this year's SDCC

Got my Wolverine Legends in the mail!!!!!

Emma Frost is perfection. Cyclops is a huge improvement! Sabretooth is a satisfying sculpt, Wolverine is an effective repaint, but would have preferred his mask in blue to match his costume instead of black.

Puck is a fun and necessary figure!

Only thing to make this wave better would have been Rogue!
