how much cheaper are two packs to make?

is it 5%? 20%? it's like there is some OCD guy at hasbro that freaks out if products aren't in two packs. and has it ever worked? g.i. joe was hurt by them for years (and years and years), and now ML, MU, star wars, g.i. joe (again), and even some transformers are going that way.

is it really that much cheaper? sometimes it seems like it's to avoid peg warmers, but at the same time it would seem like the half of the pack that no one wants or everyone already has (*ahem* snake eyes, iron man) causes the same problem with two figures instead of one.

Yeah, the lack of BAF pieces is what makes it so cheap for them. Hasbro did away with the Build-a-Figure out of their own selfishness, which is precisely the same reason they are only making Legends in 2-Packs from here on in. It's pathetic. I was thinking today how incredibly awful it is that a wonderful, respectable company like ToyBiz is now defunct because of a greedy major corporation like Hasbro. It made me rethink a lot of things as far as my collection goes. It sickens me, actually.

then the sobs pack a perfect LEGENDS sized giant man with one of those crap marvel universe figures. You think it's a coincidence it's a variant us legends collectors don't have yet....

There has been a goliath variant in the past for Marvel Legends, but it was a poor one. I will be getting that variant though when it comes out and putting it on the legends shelf. Maybe the Skrull, not sure yet.

I don't agree though that the GI Joe two packs were a horrible thing. It actually kept the unit price for figure under $4 for quite some time. Yes you had to deal with an extra figure, but two years ago we were paying the same price for two figures that we do now for one figure. What Hasbro is doing now is just a straight cash grab using close to the same amount of plastic for almost twice the price. I get the feeling that Hasbro is trying to cut there losses in other avenues of the toy world by jacking up prices in the collector lines.

lol selfishness.

Is that what you think of business?

You're right. Hasbro should go back to single packs w/ BAF pieces and a MSRP of $7.50.

You know you have to blame Marvel too. I understand we are on a marvel forum but im simply just pointing out how the business works. Marvel is pretty big again because of the movies and im very grateful because i have been a fan fo 20 years. I remember in the late 90's when marvel almost went under they merged with ______ just to keep publishing comics. Any way their stock is very high now and some compinies will not pay the amount marvel is asking for(Capcom) or cant afford i.e. (Toy biz). I like that comics are better than ever before, but maybe one day when marvel craze dies down again some good toy company will get the lisence.

Toybiz was just as big as Hasbro is. The whole deal was Marvel sold the license and Hasbro got it.

It sickens me how people with no knowledge of how a business works can come on a board and act like they know it all.

I beg to differ. Toybiz was only ever a fraction of the size of Hasbro with a fraction of the upper management. That is a documented fact, and it's public record available for anyone to check out. Toybiz concentrated on employing the right amount and quality of ground level worker to make a superior product and keep costs low(er). Hasbro's pockets were large enough to convince Marvel to sell them the license out from under a company they owned essentially ending Toybiz / Marvel Toys.

A lot of people that use this forum don't know how business works and are prone to say stupid things but this is not one of them. It's dead on accurate. In Toybiz's hayday they were setting a new standard and forcing other companies to improve product, prices and quality to compete. That's why all the old dogs ganged up on them and sued them. If they would have been allowed to continue to operate in the way they set out to they may very well have put Hasbro or Mattel out of business. That may not have been a bad thing. Any new companies that tried to compete from that point would have been forced to put out a better product and we wouldn't have to settle for the increasingly cheap yet high priced garbage Hasbro puts out now.

You act like you're the only one who knows anything about business and anyone elses opinions are worthless. Well I do know business and I know that 90 percent of good business is built on the opinion of the consumer. In part he's just expressing his opinion, but it's centered in fact. Though no one is exactly sure what their motives are behind the new 2-Pack format of ML, it is pretty clear that all of Hasbro's actions with ML and MU to this point have been perceived as selfish or greedy. From Hasbro's standpoint it may be just good business, but for the consumer it's just crap.

i'm not sure if you don't know the history, or are leaving that blank for another reason... but hasbro went bankrupt in part due to bad deals with companies like sony and a toy maker (avi arad primarily) bankrolled the project. after marvel created toy biz to help with the products, toy biz got really successful and then bought marvel when marvel had problems, and then sold it back to them later.

but toybiz was kinda the lifeline that kept marvel going. the fact that they ended up out in the cold with almost nothing to put on shelves and a very stern block and delay pattern from hasbro is really sad.

p.s. yes i know i am skipping some of what happened just trying to keep it pertinent.

nothing against Pooda(?) but i'm a little surprised he hasn't jumped in already to administer the traditional corporate praise for hasbro et al.

Pooda's not so much a Hasbro honk as he's just come to terms that MU is Hasbro's future and has gotten on board. What he says is usually factual and not just outright condescending like TomTom.

i didn't mean it negative... i know it sounds it. but i didn't. there is a value to embracing the changes that are currently taking place, and a great many of us live in the glory days. i think in the end it's a matter of preference and acceptance.

Okay, I was going merely on sales to figure the size. I will admit you were right there.

However, that isn't how property licenses get sold. No company can just go to Marvel and say, "Hey, you know Toybiz is doing pretty good, don't you think? Bet we could do better. If you'd just sign right here..." It's a bidding process. Any company who would want the property would bid a certain amount of money, and whoever was willing to pay the most would get it. It's pretty much like Marvel sold it on eBay. The bid came down to Hasbro and someone else (Playmates I think), and Hasbro won (and let me say, THANK GOD, because things would hella worse if Playmates had the license).

And I apologize for acting like a know-it-all. I just get frustrated when people focus on things that happened three years ago and is said and done. The entire board is full of people who know a great deal about business. They just don't act like it.

I can understand how people could look at it as being selfish for them to discontinue the BAFs. But honestly, there aren't too many "big" characters that need done. And any that do are going to be released in the MU packs. Hoesntly, I'd rather just pay the $40 or so up front then pay $100 for an entire wave and have characters I really don't want laying around.

I understand how people think it's selfish for them to switch to 3/334" scale for the MU. But right now, many toy companies are pushing towards that scale. McFarlane has Halo 3. Mezco has Hellboy. Mattel has DC Infinite Heroes. Hasbro has Marvel Universe. I'll admit I disliked the scale at first. But I figured at $9 bucks, why not, and bought my first figure. And I liked it. So I bought more. And here we are....

I do enjoy MU myself (some of them, anyway) but while you're at, "What they hell, it's $9 bucks", I'm at "WHAT THE HELL?!......$9 freakin bucks?!". No big deal, just two peoples differing opinions on the value of a product. The perception is that most ML fans hate MU because it exists. I don't think that's the case. The anger comes from the fact that it's being billed (force fed, according to many) to us as the only choice.

You are right most companies have 3.75" product but most of them have 6" as well and run them concurrently. Mattel actually moved up to 6" from 3.75". Most feel that Hasbro intentionally stopped ML in order to concentrate on and flood the market with MU in order to force starved ML fans into buying MU and accepting it as the new standard. I think they had it all backward. I personally would have picked up MU as a auxiliary collection to ML as long as I knew new ML product would still be coming at a steady pace and guarantee many ML loyalist share the same opinion.

I would have loved to go to the store and pick up the latest ML and "Wow, check the new MU's that just came out, I'm gonna get em, too." And I woulda, but to just go cold turkey (let's face it, they only brought back ML for fear of losing the collector base) and have to start all over again, it just makes all those years of ML collecting seem like a complete waste of time.

There has never been a giantman variant, there was a release PRE-marvel legends in an avengers box set, Then series 4 (ml) had a giantman based on that one and rereleased it in series 7 then the walmart build a figure.
