Customizing thoughts

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking of customizing a few characters for a while. I've seen these figures used as base bodies and they seem to work pretty well.

Sif= Helmetless Big Barda variant. A small bit of sculting and paint and I think it works out great.

Fandral= DCU Green Arrow. I have never seen a custom like this but I bet it would work with a bit of work.

Odin= McFarlane Zeus. I've seen this figure and his is great but he is a bit short to be used as Odin and since he is a older figure the articulation is not great. I was thinking of putting a his head on a modified (new hands) Beta Ray Bill body. I would be aiming for a Kirby or Simonson theme.

Hela= She Hulk. I think shulkie would make a nice base body for a character that's seven feet tall. She would have to be heavily painted and that head dress may be a problem.

Hellcat= DCU Cheetah. Most of the features are there, it would need a great paint job though.

Any other ideas?

The Barda thing has been done a few times on other sites. It does work well. Suprisingly I haven't seen the Fandral recipe yet as I recall. Most use Steppenwolf instead. But I think Green Arrow would work just as well. Everything else you've listed would be good to see how they turn out.

i am looking for suggestions for an easy Whirlwind custom face

Spiderman classic Juggernaut helmut maybe. It's small enough for a regular sized head.

I'm thinking about making a powered-down Bobby Drake/Iceman. I've always wanted the XMC variant, but I cant justify the hefty price ($100).

I'm thinking just a generic body will do along with a simple head swap. Here's the head I'm thinking about using with the hair painted blonde.

If you want one the same style as the XMC. Just get the Sentinel series Angel (preferably the blue one) and one of the custom cast Bobby Drake heads and repaint. Angel and the XMC Icemen use the same base. They're pretty cheap loose. Head casts are usually no more than like $4.

I thought about the custom head cast, but I've never seen one available for the Bobby Drake figure I'm talking about. Do you know where one is available?

There is one site I know of that has it in his catalog. It's called DMCDirect. I think he's closed his shop just temporarily though and is adding more cats to the huge inventory he already has. But contact these two and see if they might have it available. Camcokid also known as CKCastings or Glassman customs. There are more out there but these are the ones I have used so far.

I think I may make a Blackbolt custom. The Hasbro version is seriously lacking from the reviews I've seen and he is expensive on Ebay. I'm just trying to narrow down a base body. The DCU Atom figure might be a good base figure. Then again perhaps the existing Blackbolt figure can be modded in some ways.

Nothing is really wrong with him except for his height. It can be remedied by adding longer from other action figures with already black limbs like Havok or one of the taller black Spidermen. if you don't want to do alot of painting. Dang as I'm writing this I'm thinking why didn't I do this to mine?

Well looking at mine now its not his height but more or less his arms look kinda of stubby for his base. Still corrected with them using some slightly longer or trimmer ones.

In my opinion, Black Bolt had the same thing wrong with him that troubled Adam Warlock, Doc Samson, and the Comic version of Loki from the Thor Legends: they are two thigh cuts away from being perfect.

If you need to make a Black Bolt, find a good masked face such as Batman and them use a plain DCUC body with some fabric for the wings.

That's what I'm thinking.

    • My first pick would be  Quicksilver/Ultron Drone.  Army building for the drones, multiple Pietros to show his super speed. Warriors Three. With either a headswap for Fandral, or just the second one.  Cosmo/Howard the Duck Whiplash/Justin Hammer. Either the armored or racetrack version, I just want a Hammer to do a stopmotion Stark Expo dance. General Ross/Abomination. I feel like there's not enough love for this. Malekith/Kurse Alexander Pierce/Agent Sitwell Kaecilius/Mindless one Zealot multiple headswaps+magic effects Ancient One/Wong Stakar/Aleta/Martinex/Charly-27/Mainframe/Krugar Miek/Fenris (maybe not HUGE, but, you know... a big wolf) Sonny Burch/Uzman/Dave/Kurt Chitauri/Sakaaran/Outrider Male Starforce (Yon-Rogg, Att-Las, Bron-Char alt heads)/Skrull (alt heads)
    • Yep can't forget Bag Man! 😄  Hard to decide what Inhuman I would want to see in the wave, but will keep my fingers crossed in hopes that we'll get a set of em like we are with Alpha Flight.
    • The thing about random is that they already have the arm(s) for him thanks to a BAF not alot of people completed. The Titus Baf.
    • Random would be fun. Nice list. Lists are great for imagination. I'm getting more excited about seeing some Generation X figures. That series was fun early on. I liked the uniforms. I would hope Hasbro could include some accessories to demonstrate their powers. Maybe some extra hands or limbs for Husk. I wish they would do flight stands for someone like M. Would Skin be cool without normal and stretched out hands? Would Mondo have to be a BAF? I remember the 90's toy being somewhat large. What would be the uniform for your ideal New Mutants figures? They had some really dated appearances around Inferno. Were those characters around the entire time?
    • Can't believe I forgot Bag-Man, probably because I would see the Bombastic Bagman as a Spider-Man variant
