Any tips on painitng sand.

Mine just reminds me of peanut butter. I think there's plenty of shadows from how it was made. I added some sepia wash to add a lil pop to it but it still doesn't feel textured enough. I had thought maybe doing some scumbling with a sponge but not exactly sure what I should do as far as the color goes. I even thought about adding real sand but I'd have to buy it so that's out.

Is that hot glue? If so, next time sprinkle some sand in it while it's still soft. Or get some sand paper with a fine grit and rip some pieces up, put those in at random spots on the twirling sand and then use the hot glue to cover the edges. Maybe a combo of both, so the sand just doesn't end at the paper, but blends into the rest. Then use the same painting technique you used here and it should pop better. Hope that helps.

Yeah it's hot glue, basically glued together a bunch of glue scrap. I didn't think of sandpaper. That's a cool idea! Another member posted his that he used with sand. It turned out really well.
