A Death In The Family! X-MEN: THE EXTERMINATED #1

Recommended Posts

Cable has fallen, and the events of Extermination have left a hole in the X-Men family. What comes next??

In the wake of Cable’s death, his adopted daughter Hope Summers is attempting to deal with her loss – but a dark and terrifying path beckons her, and the X-Men’s own Jean Grey may be her only hope for survival!

This December, CABLE creative team Zac Thompson and Lonnie Nadler re-team for a special one-shot to say good-bye to the time-traveling, fan-favorite mutant – featuring covers by Shaw and a special back-up story that celebrates the life of Nathan Summers, from legendary X-Men series writer Chris Claremont!

“This issue is our chance to say a proper farewell to Cable, to honor his legacy, and to really see the immense impact the time travelling mutant had on those closest to him,” said Nadler. “Most importantly, it's about how the Summers family copes with grief, and the difficulty of forging ahead. The issue is packed with fan favorite X-Men from all different eras, and we're super excited to be bringing them together, despite the somber occasion.”

Don’t miss the X-Men story everyone will be talking about – X-MEN: THE EXTERMINATED #1 arrives in comic shops this December!

What?! Someone actually DIED in an X-Men book subtitled "the exterminated"? That's unheard of. Run out right now and reserve your copy of this HISTORIC event.

Hate to be snarky but these crossover/crisis/death/return tropes have been DONE to DEATH....seriously, please just stop it. Theyre just gonna bring the guy back eventually, or reboot the universe again, or have some other world-shaking crisis that will restore this and any other character they kill off. Wish Marvel would impose a 10yr moratorium on these kinds of arcs. in the meantime work on some fresh, original stories that actually fit the time frame you've already established. And a few stand- alone issues wouldn't hurt.

I can just see the cheesy day-time cable commercial:

"Have you died in a superhero civil war, alien invasion, glitch in the Matrix, or cosmic event? Have you been denied your death benefit simply because you're still breathing? Contact the law offices of Matt Murdock and we'll help you get your death benefit and any other settlements you may have coming. Call the Law Offices of Matt Murdock... . you were dead yesterday, you have enough to worry about."

    • I was able to order two ... one for me and one for a friend of mine.  I got a shipping notification for both last night.
    • I'm sure a lot of us have Wolverine fatigue syndrome at this point, but the sad truth is there's still a ton of source material to work with. The even sadder thing is I dought, if there ever is a Wolverine wave, that it would only contain 1 Wolverine. Similar to Deadpool waves I think there would be at least 2 cuz they figure they can get at least one version of the keystone character in the line up without including a BAF piece. That being said I'll give MY ideal wave and then point out what's more likely to happen. 1. Wolverine Returns (modern) - he's back and I'm sure he's due for a wardrobe change. 2. Maverick - it's never been done before. Hasbro should kill it. 3. Kane - another that's never been done & his look has gone kinda weirdo but it's another Weapon X'er that would be cool to have. 4. Lady Deathstrike - you know how much Hasbro likes to outdo the original. The bars not very high. 5. Viper - I know the crossover with the Avengers makes this unlikely but it would be easy & the last one was butt, ayass U-G-L-Y and it truly had no alibi. 6. Bonebreaker - this is just a cool one that's just gotta be done. Skullbuster is on its way. Gotta get him in there. 7. Nightcrawler - gotta get the bestie in there. Plus he's long overdue for a makeover. 8. Warpath - as they showed us with Colossus, not all oversized characters need to be BAFs. This one would be original colors. They could simply repaint it if an X-Force wave ever happens. BAF: Silver Samurai - not my favorite character but it has to be done. Not a large figure but his look is just complicated enough to warrant an original sculpt or at least a tone of new parts. Now, more than likely on of the figures in the lineup would hafta take a back seat to a 2nd Wolverine. Logic tells me it would be an AOA. I'll restate how Hasbro loves to outdo TB. Also, figuring out exactly what female figs to place is tricky. Deathstrike is a gimme, of course, but I could see a late 80's/early 90's Rogue in her black leotard or Copycat with a few swap heads instead of Viper. I could also see Nightcrawler and Warpath giving up their spots to maybe an updated Daken and/or Mr. Sinister, cuz they could easily be placed in X-Men or X-Force waves in the future. So many possibilities.
    • Yeah, mine too....I went to a few but they never arrived (according to the managers). So unless someone was able to order from the site, they made a mistake posting the Thing, and theyre not actually ready to sell just yet.
    • I would say: Wolverine (Astonishing) Jubilee (90's Jim Lee) Lady Deathstrike Northstar Donald Pierce Caliban Nightcrawler BAF - Silver Samurai  That's a main protagonist (Silver Samurai), Deathstrike & another Reaver, Alpha Flight, a sidekick, a Horseman and and elf
