Sony Developing 'Venom' Sequel With Writer Kelly Marcel

Recommended Posts

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Sony is developing a sequel to Venom with Kelly Marcel writing the script.  Marcel is among the writers of the first film with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal producing the sequel.  Ruben Fleischer directed the first installment but is currently working on a Zombieland follow-up. He told sources that he is expected to be involved in a sequel should one occur.

Expected to return from the first Venom movie are Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson.  Hardy starred as the Spider-Man anti-hero Venom and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, a serial killer who in the comics becomes Venom's archnemesis Carnage.

Venom was released in October with mixed to bad reviews but went on to earn more than $855 million globally.

I wanted to stay optimistic about this, but seeing how what drives this company is money making and not quality or love for the characters I'm staying away from whatever they have for Venom atm. Hopefully the trailers change my mind.

Ooo, they had me up until Woody Harrelson. Pass.

The producers are gonna have their work cut out for them though. Not only do they have to craft a worthy continuation of the first film, but the have to come up with a worthy successor as signature sound-byte for the "Turd in the wind." line.

Seriously, it's become the "I'll be back." of our time.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. The Eddie and Venom dynamic really sold it for me. I’d give it a solid C. It was nothing new, but it was entertaining.
