Marvel Legends - What We Know After #NYTF 2019

Recommended Posts

After every major convention event where tons of info gets thrown at you over the course of multiple days we always try to do a recap to make sure the best we can you're all caught up with information. So now that the 2019 New York Toy Fair has come to an end, lets go over what we know for Hasbro's Marvel Legends line.

We already know the first waves of 2019 which includes the second Black Panther movie assortment as well as the Captain Marvel Kree Sentry Build-A-Figure and Spider-Man Kingpin Build-A-Figures are on shelves now. The 6" Hydra Supreme & Arnim Zola Figure 2-Pack has also already hit shelves.

The Walgreens exclusive Mystique and Target exclusive Captain Marvel in Starforce outfit figures have already been released overseas and should soon be out here in the US followed by the Walmart Captain Marvel Binary Form figure. The Rider Series Professor X and Deadpool with Scooter have also hit in Canada and again should start seeing release here in the US any day now.

The next wave due out likely will be the first wave of Marvel Legends themed Avengers figures which will be a mix of comic book based and Avengers: Endgame figures. This wave should be out towards the end of March. We know the comic book based figures for this wave will include Citizen V, Living Laser, Hercules, Nighthawk and Avengers: Infinity War Ebony Maw.

As for the Endgame movie figures, there a number of RUMORS floating around such as Captain America, Ronin and a armored Thanos for the Build-A-Figure. Hasbro is embargoed from talking about Endgame so we will likely see the figures leak out onto shelves before we actually get any kind of confirmation from Hasbro on these.

Following the Avengers wave should be a couple of Target Exclusive 2-Packs which are slated with April 21, 2019 release dates. The Kraven Last Hunt 2-pack we first saw back during the New York Comic Con with repainted Kraven The Hunter and Symbiote Spider-Man figures as well as the recently announced Spider-Man: Homecoming 2-Pack with MJ and Spider-Man with sports blazer.

Both these sets went up for pre-order on the Target website but are currently listed as sold out.

After that expect to see the first wave of X-Men figures for 2019 hit shelves. These are due out in May (though we will likely see them out earlier) and will include Skullbuster, Jim Lee Style Jubilee, Blink, Forge, Weapon X, Jim Lee style Beast and Gambit. The Build-A-Figure for this wave will be Caliban. This wave went up for pre-order this past weekend at places like Megalopolis.Toys.

While we don't know for sure, we suspect the next things we will see hit shelves will be the first X-Force wave of 2019 and second Spider-Man wave. We know the X-Force wave will include Guardian, Boom Boom with gum (gum not shown), Cannonball with blast effect, Nightcrawler with non-bendy-wire tail and Mr. Sinister. There should be two more figure announced for this wave and we suspect the Build-A-Figure will be Mr. Sinister. One of the final figures for this wave which strangely was not mentioned this weekend might be the Wendigo we saw last year at the Canadian Fan Expo, though that seems like a Build-A-Figure candidate as well.

Honestly I totally forgot about Wendigo during the Hasbro Toy Fair event or I would have asked them about it there. Also I know some are annoyed about Cannonball not having actual legs. I saw nothing indicating alternate legs would be included with the figure, but I also did not actually confirm with Hasbro he would not include them. Lets hope Hasbro does add legs with the figure along with the blast effect piece.

For the second wave of Spider-Man based figures we know for sure that this wave will include two figures from the new Spider-Man: Far From Home movie with Spider-Man in his updated regular suit and Stealth Suit Spider-Man. For comic figures we will see Classic Julia Carpenter Spider-Woman, Doppelganger Spider-Man, Hydro-Man with removable puddle feet and alternate water arms and Scorpion with 13" bendy wire tail and new sculpt. There is likely 2 more figures for this wave yet to be revealed. My guess is at least one will be a movie figure of Mysterio, but we will have to see. If any of the figures that have already been revealed for the wave are the Build-A-Figure, the likely candidate would be Hydro-Man.

We could also conceivably see the second Avengers themed wave hit around this time as well which will likely be during that summer time frame. This wave we know will include the Black Panther Movie Shuri as well as comic book based figures of Loki, Beta-Ray Bill, Union Jack and Serpent Society member Rock Python. It's unknown if this will be a six figure wave plus Build-A-Figure or 7 figure wave plus Build-A-Figure. If we go by last year's Avengers figures as an indicator then it would be a six figure wave which would mean the two figures left to reveal, one of which being the Build-A-Figure, that I am guessing will be Endgame based.

NYTF19-Hasbro-Marvel-Legends67__scaled_600.jpg

NYTF19-Hasbro-Marvel-Legends69__scaled_600.jpg

For fans of the Premium Role Play line, look for a new Ant-Man helmet which will feature 2 LED light modes and will have an adjustable fit option.

NYTF19-Hasbro-Marvel-Legends123__scaled_600.jpg

There is also another Deadpool Nerf blaster coming to Gamestop which will be done in grey X-Force colors.

NYTF19-Hasbro-Marvel-Legends122__scaled_600.jpg

Besides the normal Marvel Legends waves, their will be several sub-lines released this year. Continuing in the tradition of last year's Toy Biz tribute wave to the classic 5" figures, they will now do a tribute wave for the classic Toy Biz 5" X-Men figures as well. This wave will include 6 figures, 4 of which were revealed this past weekend. Those where Cyclops in blue and white X-Factor outfit and optic blast effect, Patch (Wolverine), Silver Samurai and Dazzler in 90's blue outfit.

There will also be an extension for last year's MCU 10th Anniversary line. Same thing minus the 10th Anniversary logo since it would now be the 11th Anniversary. This will feature Captain America: The First Avenger Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter which will see release as a Amazon exclusive. Avengers: Infinity War Loki and Corvus Glaive which will be released as a Walmart exclusive.

Finally for Ant-Man and the Wasp look for a 2-pack featuring The Ghost and Louis (Michael Pena) with shrunk down Pym building.

@JayC There is no way Hydro man is the BAF as it is using the MCU Luke Cage build.

I know Hasbro doesn't like to use the Moonstone buck very much anymore because it's deemed "too sexy", but what's up with Emma's non-existent chest???

Any word on an updated IW Cap and Cull Obsidian? Or a War Machine MK 4? Or IW Hulkbuster? They’re so close to completing the IW lineup, we really just need those 4. Also Ragnarok/IW Heimdall and Hulk.

Yeah, if it was then it would be a solid pass for me lol. Same for Mr Sinister. I would like a new Mr Sinister but not to the point that I have to shell out extra $$$ to get him.

If we go by last year's Avengers figures as an indicator then it would be a six figure wave which would mean the only figure left to reveal is the Build-A-Figure, that I am guessing will be Endgame based.

Terrific recap!

However, if Avengers wave 2 is a six-figure wave, we still have one more mystery figure besides the build-a-figure character.

  1. Shuri
  2. Loki
  3. Beta-Ray Bill
  4. Union Jack
  5. Rock Python
  6. ?
  7. ? (BAF)

I, too, would assume the mystery figure is from Avengers Endgame, and thus Hasbro couldn't reveal it yet.

I, too, would assume the mystery figure is from Avengers Endgame, and thus Hasbro couldn't reveal it yet.

Doh, your right. Stupid math

Avengers Endgame is going to be a huge movie, and yet, based on the available slots of "unannounced" figures in the two Avengers waves, it looks like Hasbro only has plans for three (maybe four) regular boxed Endgame figures, and potentially two more build-a-figures. Two waves: eight comic book characters, two movies characters from movies that came out last year, and three (or four) new movie characters. That seems disproportionately small given the likelihood that Endgame is another $1.5 billion dollar movie.

So... does anybody think we won't get a third Avengers wave before the end of 2019?

we probably will get a third wave but the reason the Endgame waves are so comic heavy is probably due to the backlash Hasbro recieved for focusing so much on the MCU and re-releasing the same characters the whole time.

I wonder if, as Endgame is the last of the RDJr / Chris Evans movies  (probably), the line will also expand beyond the normal number of characters per wave, or do anything else to notate the end of an era; between last year's MCU10 figures and the Marvel 80's this year, they're not shying away from marking history, which I like to see.

I hope Hasbro paints the ankles of Magneto Purple and not leave them red like what they showed at ToyFair. Like Boog Nice said on his yt channel podcast Magneto looks like he’s got crocs slip on shoes. I’m still gonna pick it up. But if they don’t I feel like I’m gonna have to go buy some purple paint to match and paint myself.

This is one of the best, if not the best bunch of ML offerings I've ever seen, man! Classic versions of Thor, Iron Man, Captain America with his scale mail, Guardian, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Magneto, Quicksilver, Mystique???  My heavens, Hasbro you have made this 70's baby very very happy indeed!

Well think about it, other than those weird Avengers suits we've seen which honestly for me personally am not to interested in buying in figure form, there probably isn't much new material for them to work with. Yes its a major movie but its also a direct continuation of the last one which means everyone is still wearing the same outfits for the most part.

Not sure where your getting that. Cap has a new suit, Iron Man has a new suit, Hawkeye has a new suit, War Machine has a new suit, Black Widow has a new look, the Hulk wears clothes now, Thanos has his armor, and there's apparently a time jump during the film. Factor in the Quantum suits, the fact that in movie time Captain Marvel's last appearance was AT LEAST 23 years ago, and this film will probably have more "toyetic" material than any other MCU picture to date.

This isn't a complaint, I love the figure, but it's weird, every single time i see that Emma Frost the first thing that pops into my head is "Black Canary!?!"

So far, the closest thing I have to an issue with any of this stuff is it doesn't look like there's any concession for mounting Cap's shield on the front of his bike. Not a deal breaker, just kind of disappointing.

while that new Dr Doom would have lots of custom figure possibilities, those details would cost some $$ anyway, e.g cloth, head etc. So I'd rather put my money and wait for what Mezco has to offer or even hasbro. If hasbro can update Magneto, pretty sure they could do the same for Doom. I'm fine with my Epic Heroes right now, it's not too bad and I can sell it higher than what I paid for when the time comes a new improved Doom figure comes up.

On the subject of Cannonball and his legs, almost every time I saw someone ask on Instagram, I'd always see a response saying that it was confirmed there was no legs. Reading this makes me wonder who actually got the "confirmation".

Psyched about Korg, but my soon to be ex-wife made a valid point. He should have been in a 2 pack with Miek.

With all the reveals, I'm very happy with the ML showing. I just hope they either modify one of the Cyclops heads or it's easy to remove the flaring off the sides of the eyes as I tend to use more neutral poses for the sake of shelf space. They look cool, but I'd like a head that doesn't look like he's about to fire the blast and I like that they included a blast effect as well.
