Actor, producer and director Laurence Fishburne made a surprise appearance alongside Kermit the Frog during Disney Television Animation's panel at D23 Expo to announce Disney Channel's new animated series "Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur."

Based on Marvel's hit comics, the series, which follows the adventures of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette and her ten-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur, is executive-produced by Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland's Cinema Gypsy Productions, Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment, and Emmy Award-winner Steve Loter (Disney's "Kim Possible").

Ya, I'm having trouble understanding what exactly makes Fishburne a good choice for this. I mean what kinda pulse does a 60+ year old guy have on today's youth which is where to show is clearly aimed? That's the equivalent of the creepy old man on the corner lot giving out candy and inviting the young neighborhood kids to pet his Chihuahua. On the surface it seems sweet and innocent, but deep inside it just feels wrong.

Interesting that it’s LF.  I’m a big fan, just don’t see what it does for marvel.  Like, I can totally see Kevin Smith doing great at a MOTU anime, but Fishburne doesn’t seem to fit in entirely natural here.  It kinda feels like Hollywood’s way of doing things is to just attach a celebrities name to the product regardless of if they fit in properly.  It’s like with the new lady and the tramp movie.  Tessa Thompson is the voice actor for Lady.  She’ll be fine, I’m sure, but why not hire a lesser known voice actress who could potentially be better?

Hoping we get Devil Dinosaur in Ultimate Riders at some point.

That would be very interesting, but I guess the dino would have to be very huge. On that same line, a Ghost Rider 1000 BC would be a welcome addition as well.

I think I agree with many here in that Fishburne's involvement in this series is rather odd, interesting, but one has to wonder why him. We'll have to wait and see what he can do.
