While I was totally pumped when they led us to believe Jessica was going back to her original costume, I'm not all that upset that they pulled this Catfish on us. I don't hate the costume and appreciate the effort to try to make it new while retaining some of the look of the classic. Not too bad. Maybe it's one of those things where she'll be switching back and forth between her personal adventures and her "official" adventures.

Given that this looks like she will be a spy, maybe this is a "Stealth" suit?

As usual, I'll let the rest of you guys have the comic, I'll stick with the cartoon.

IMO the costume is horrible but I do love the character so I'll be buying issue #1.

That costume stinks. What was wrong with the latest one or even the original? This thing looks like no thought at all went into it.

Agree. Awful.

This is the good stuff:

The chest logo on the new suit is kind of interesting. It sort of looks like a spider sitting on a toilet. Given the overall weak design of the rest of the suit, that at least seems vaguely appropriate.

Looking at it again, I stand by my original assessment. Furthermore, when I see how cheap and "basic" it looks, I'm wondering if the so-called designer came up with that with the express purpose of it being easier for movie/tv media to reproduce.  Dull grey/black leotard, mask, dull red trim panel only on the upper neckline. Not that either her original costume nor the "moto jacket" would be hard to make, but this crap here would take even less time.

I sure hope this is wrong, because the last thing we need is comics creativity being stifled because of what works best for a studio.

Dave Johnson is a pretty solid artist (if he’s the same guy I’m thinking of that did most of the One Hundred Bullets comic covers). But based on this I wouldn’t say costume design is his forte although maybe there are better examples out there. Not digging this but still a fan of his work in general.

Interesting theory, but it doesn't hold up when you consider the first place the original suit was seen by most people, at the time, was on a cartoon made WAAAAY back when animators actually drew them by hand . . . on paper . . . with pencils and everything. That's probably why the original suit was such a beautifully simple design. A field of red broken up by a few blocks of yellow and some black detailing. It doesn't get much more media friendly than that.

Sometimes a bad design is just a bad design.

Now THIS makes since. God knows there are plenty of absolutely brilliant comic artists out there who just don't have the goods for costume design (just as most fashion designers aren't really that great at art). Its just two different disciplines.

Alex Ross comes to mind. Great painter, but maybe not the strongest at costume design.

George Perez is another great artist...who has designed some atrocious outfits! But I sure love his work.
