Tamashii Nations Doing Japaneese Spider-Man Live-Action TV Series Figures

Magazine scans have surfaced online giving us our first at new figures from Tamashii Nations based on the Japanese Spider-Man Live-Action TV Series that originally aired overseas in the late 70's.

I've only seen clips of it on YouTube, but the best way to describe the series is, think Power Rangers only with Spider-Man.

In the show Spider-Man would use a wrist bracelet for many of the gadgets and it would even store his costume. To capture this, Tamashii Nations is doing a S.H. Figurarts figure for Spider-Man with the bracelet and some web effects.

Spider-Man also used vehicles in this show including a flying car called The Spider Machine GP-7 and a spacecraft called The Marveller. The Marveller could then transform into a 60 meter tall robot called the Leopardon.

No sign of Tamashii doing the car or spacecraft, but they are bringing us a version of the Leopardon robot in their larger scale Chogokin Spirits line which will come with a sword and Spider-Shield.

The show while super campy has developed a decent size fan-following over the years even though the show never aired here in the US. We had our own campy live-action Spider-Man TV series. Anyway, check out the magazine scans below and look for official images and more details on these to be released soon from Tamashii Nations.

@JayC you say power rangers but with spiderman but in fact if it wasnt for this show, the power ranger would not be what it is today. Monsters of the week, giant mecha, campy story. Yeah pr owes everything to this show.

Probably, but regardless, far more people are going to be familiar with Power Rangers as its something that has aired in this country for many many years than they are with the Spider-Man series from the 70's that never aired in this country. The statement wasn't to indicate which came first but to allow someone to have some context of something they have a better chance of being familiar with who never heard or saw  this Japanese Spider-Man series before.

If anyone watches The Toys That Made Us on Netflix, the new season has an episode on the Power Rangers. It actually talks about how the Japanese Spiderman TV show had an influence on the Power Rangers.

The only aspect that Power Rangers owes this show is the giant robot. Without Leopardon, there wouldn’t be mecha in Super Sentai (aka Megazords in Power Rangers). Everything else had been done before since Super Sentai and Kamen Rider started before Toei’s Spider-Man. Also, what you call a “campy story” is what Marvel and folks has been doing for quite some time in their comics. This was just the Japanese live action version of it.

As someone else had stated, the Power Rangers episode of Toys That Made Us dives into this topic. You should watch it.
