Deadline has confirmed that Sony Pictures has closed a deal with actress and director Olivia Wilde to direct and develop a secret Marvel film project revolving around a female character in the universe.

Sony has no comment but it is expected that the story will be centered on Spider-Woman.  No word on which direction will take Spider-Woman as the character has been the alter ego of several characters including Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson and Jessica Drew.

The script is being penned by Katie Silberman with Amy Pascal producing and Rachel O’Connor executive producing.

That reminds me that I wanted to see Booksmart and haven't yet.

It’s a funny movie. Nice to see girls (accurately) portrayed as self absorbed, sex starved, funny real people that we only normally see guys portrayed as. The two leads are very likable and they get into some just goofy situations

if you haven’t already, also try to catch Good Boys. That one takes the standard high jinx of movies like American Pie and Super Bad but applies them to middle school kids. I know this doesn’t sound right but it is a surprisingly funny and touching film.

I love Olivia  Wilde. I think this a great choice ( I thought I read Olivia Munn, which had me deeply concerned).

I mean.....why the hell not? At least we know who she is. Some of the movies she's been in were major stinkers, but Booksmart was pretty good and as an actor she's pretty competent, so she'll be able to mentor some of the actors if necessary. I can think of one actor particular, in the MCU, who could use some help in that dept.

Lets hope they do Spiderwoman at least as good or better than Jessica Jones on Netflix. The first season was great and well done. Second season not so much. Time will tell.

oh speaking of Sony and it's female centered movie's was I missing something... whatever happened to Black Cat & Silver Sable? is this potentially it? or was that still in the works... I thought it was cancelled or was it? or did they decide to make them solo movies.. I feel lost at this point.

I was looking forward to a Black Cat + Silver Sable movie, I think those two seem like a fun different duo, it would also really expand the Sonyverse character bracket... oh and is Sonyverse now MCU? is that a thing or no not really?

I think I heard it was postponed indefinitely.
