Deadline has learned that Sony Pictures and director J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, A Most Violent Year, Netflix’s Triple Frontier) are in talks for Kraven the Hunter, the latest film in the studio’s Universe of Marvel Characters.  Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad are producing with Matt Holloway writing the script.

This news comes a day after Deadline reported about Olivia Wilde directing an untitled Marvel movie for Sony centered around the Spider-Woman character.

Sony studio is expanding its catalog as they have recently set S.J. Clarkson to direct its untitled Madame Web film and the next installment in the Spider-Man franchise also begins shooting this winter.  Venom 2 and Jared Leto’s Morbius are in production but have been postponed until 2021.

The comic revolves around Sergei Kravinoff aka Kraven the Hunter, who is one of Spider-Man’s best known and most formidable enemies as well as the half-brother of the Chameleon. The character has appeared in numerous Spider-Man properties including the popular story Kraven’s Last Hunt.

if movies like Madame Web & Kraven don't have a Spider-person in it.. it all just seems stupid, why a Kraven movie? sure maybe it could be cool (do we need it no) is it an origin story? who is he hunting? is he the protagonist in his film? I dunno, but why?, also Madame web... what... okay sure, I smell both these films not actually happening like all of those planned Sony movies from before.. it's just spitballing and then someone runs and tells everybody it's happening and then it is not, how about Madame Web and Kraven show up in Spider-Man III that's cool, sony slow down,, you just started crawling, you give these film companies some money, they see some success with a left field title like venom sans spider-man , and they start writing a romantic comedy about uncle ben and aunt may, then a sequel about aunt may's dog... get outta here

I know it sounds stupid to complain about in a world where Black Panther, Rocket Raccoon and Captain Marvel did better at the box office than Superman and the freakin' Justice League and where a major studio is about to release tent pole movies about the likes of Shang-Chi and the Eternals, but this sounds...odd. Some of the Sony spin-offs made sense so far. Miles Morales and Venom were obvious choices for movies and Spider-Woman has a ton of potential. But Kraven and Madame Web are just bizarre choices for movies. Even Morbius, which also seems suspect to me, made more sense.

I think with all these weirdo choices for movies they're more or less setting up some version of the Sinister Six while trying not to reuse characters like Green Goblin, Electro and Doc Ock that other companies have used before. That said, I do agree that Sony is reaching way to far with this. What's next, a movie based on The Spot?

So does this mean that Kraven won’t be the villain of Spider-Man 3? That was a rumor, right? Also, I can’t be the only one getting a bit tired of all the non-Spider-Man Sony movies. I would have liked Venom a lot better if it had involved him at least a little bit. It honestly feels like Sony is desperately holding onto that Spidey license, when most people are just waiting for everything to be under one roof. Or am I the only one?

They can't make a Kraven the Hunter movie without Spider-Man, right?  Otherwise it's just some flamboyant Russian A-hole killing stuff.

This certainly sounds suspect so far, if they're not going to use Spiderman then how about Daredevil or even have Kraven vs the Predator's. Kraven is not a Venom, and personally I dont think Venom was that great. Well their first mistake was nobody called any of us to get an opinion. As far as I'm concerned we are the foremost experts at this kind of thing. At least I am.

Seriously Kraven? He's a loser who Spidey defeated one-handed and was only saved from the loser bin due to having an excellent death story line. They could have him going after Venom or use the more heroic version from the Animated Series. But still, I would prefer to see and Grizzly and Gibbon movie than Kraven.

They can't use Daredevil without permission from Disney, whereas they don't if they want to use Kraven, Venom, Madam Web, Silver Sable, Black Cat, Mary Jane, any Spiderwoman, Gwen Stacy,  Miles Morales, Silk...

RATS! Why cant the big bosses be nice and share for the fans sake? Without us there would be no reason for any of this. Throw us a bone sometimes. Is that too much to ask? Okay, it was just a thought.
