"21" Marvel legends wants for 2021

Recommended Posts

With 2020 coming to a close (thankfully) it is time to look to the future. So, with that, what 21 figures would you love to see next year; to make it easier (and more fun) list your:

21 Brand New figures

and

21 Costumes/Updates you would like to see

Some quick rules

  1. 21 Characters per list
  2. Brand New Characters must be Characters that haven't gotten a Marvel legends figure before
  3. If you want a character on a different/new mold that goes into your Costume/Update list
  4. Don't be limited to what waves/figures that have been announced/rumoured
  5. Have Fun

Ugh. That dude. I wish he had never gotten work on an X-Men title.

MCU Justin Hammer would need extra articulation in the legs to accommodate Sam Rockwell's dance moves.

HA! I like your list too.

I wish I had more spots for the rest of the Generation X though. There's certainly a lot more X-characters that deserve figures.

For sure. I'd love to finish out 90s X-Force and X-Factor, get a classic Excalibur team, get Generation X and New Mutants, fill out the Brotherhood, get a bunch of Acolytes, get Banshee, and finish the Outback team, but that's already 40 or more figures just there.

Good alternates for sure.

So if you're building out your X-men shelf and you've got the 60s Original 5, the 70s Giant Size X-men team, the 80s Outback, the 90s Blue and Gold Teams, what would you do as your modern~ish team? Grant Morrison's New X-men? Joss Whedon's Astonishing? HOX/POX teams? or something else? Curious what anyone else thinks too.

(Hasbro is kinda already answering this for us, tbh.)

I feel like there's a place for Astonishing and Dawn of X. There's a lot of comics between 1991 and 2020, and Astonishing was sort of right in the middle at 2004 or so. Between those two eras, you've got two of Wolverine's best looks, two of Emma's best looks, two great looks for Cyclops, one of Beast's best looks, etc. So, ideally, I'd like both, but could definitely do without New X-Men. (I can do without the 60s too, to be honest.) Now that I think about it, there's been a really weird lack of Astonishing looks in the modern line so far. Emma, Cyclops, and Wolverine wore those costumes for over a decade, so it's strange we haven't seem them on modern sculpts.

It's a little more flash in the pan, but I'd honestly probably throw Marvel Now in the mix too. We already have figures for a lot of it (including almost the whole Uncanny team), and that era has Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, and Rachel's best costumes, Wolverine's still in his Astonishing look, Magik finally has her own costume, and it's just a great line-up, in general.

I've got no great love for the team's original look for the 1963 X-men either, but I think having the Original 5, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel and Iceman in uniform~ish looks would be nice, especially showing Beast in human form, and an Angel with feather wings. Iceman as a snowman I can take or leave.

I've mentioned before that I've got no preference with how Hasbro does this, be it in their X-men 1 (1963) uniforms, or X-Factor 1.

I also didn't really like Grant Morrison's run on New X-men (I was team Claremont on X-treme X-men *hides*), and their looks in New X-men left a lot to be desired (Frank Quitely, Igor Kordey 😑) but I do (did used to?) think that time of team was something fans remember fondly. I mean who doesn't want to see this look in figure form??? (Jk...she looks ridiculous)

While I liked the LOOK of Angel's feathered wings from that 5pack, the overall set was a disaster and had "rush job" all over it. The wings were just a solid piece of plastic- well detailed, but no articulation whatsoever and not even designed to fit in the back of the figure. Given what Toybiz did, given the craftmanship done on the Marvel Universe 3.5" figure and the 6" Archangel figure, its ridiculous that they got this one so wrong. Sure hope when they do Angel this time, they'll give him the quality work he deserves.

I'm definitely down for more X-Factor costumes to go with Cyclops! And honestly, I like New X-Men a lot, but the art and costumes have nothing to do with it. X-Treme X-Men had its moments too (but also not because of the costumes).

The Angel that came in that 5" version of that 5-pack (see below) actually had surprisingly good feather wings. It even works for Legends.
