It's being reported by Variety that this year's San Diego Comic Con like last year will be held virtually due to the COVID pandemic. There are indications that the con organizers will try to organize some type of in-person event in November.

Quote

“While we are buoyed by the rollout of the vaccine and the growing number of individuals being inoculated, it appears that July will still be too early to safely hold an in-person event of the magnitude of Comic-Con,” organizers said in a statement. “While we lament the postponement of the in-person Comic-Con, our commitment to this community of fans and our celebration of comics and the related popular arts endures as an important part of who we are.

Everybody is wondering if the cinema will survive the pandemic. I hope the Cons survive too.

I think most or all conventions will survive, luckily- theaters have the huge disadvantage of overhead- they have to pay rent and/or taxes, etc., regardless of whether they are open, or how bad their business is. It sucks to have the lost income (I sell at a handful of conventions each year, and have definitely missed the income), but I'm assuming SDCC doesn't have to pay for the venue, etc., if the convention doesn't happen.

It's a bummer, but this is very much the right thing to do. I haven't gone to SDCC in something like 15 years, and even then, it was jam-packed. I'm glad they're not even trying to recklessly have the Con happen. On the plus side, that means that the portion of the production runs of SDCC exclusives that would have been sold at the con will most likely be sold online.

I really enjoyed Pulse Con last year. Looking forward to it again this year. I never attended a SDCC in my life so for me it is really no big deal. I feel sorry for the people that do get to attend.

As long as we still get news on new Marvel legends, I don't mind how the conventions are done. Still I miss going to the local conventions here in Ireland

I just want to remind people that this is not the place to discuss the pandemic. We don't care what you care what your view is. Please keep it out of this forum
