Marvel Reveals The Results Of The Groundbreaking X-Men Vote

Recommended Posts

The results are in! Last month, fans were given the chance to shape X-Men history by voting for the final member of the all-new X-Men team that will debut during June’s Hellfire Gala. Originally announced in X-Men #16, readers were provided a selection of ten different mutant super heroes to select as their choice to join the team. Beating out fellow nominees Strong Guy, Forge, Tempo, Boom-Boom, Marrow, Armor, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Banshee, Polaris has tallied the most votes and will go on to star in Gerry Duggan and Pepe Larraz’s X-MEN. Launching this July, the series will tell the adventures of the first X-Men team in the age of Krakoa, the bold new era of mutantkind that began in Jonathan Hickman’s House of X and Powers of X.

“The X-Men election was an amazing experience for the whole X-Office,” Editor Jordan D. White said. “All the creators and editors had a blast seeing the fans’ incredible response to this first-of-its-kind event and we were right there along with you rooting for our choices. It was the perfect way to kick off the new X-MEN title.”

The first-ever X-Men election was a huge success, receiving mainstream press and taking social media by storm. Fans everywhere campaigned for their favorite in creative and clever ways resulting in “X-MEN VOTE” trending worldwide on Twitter throughout the election. In the end, Polaris outlasted Banshee and walked away with the victory thanks to a dedicated group of fans eager to see this iconic hero step up in the franchise’s upcoming flagship title. Here were the final results:

1) Polaris

2) Banshee

3) Sunspot

4) Forge

5) Tempo

6) Armor

7) Boom-Boom

😎 Marrow

9) Cannonball

10) Strong Guy

Created by comic book legends Arnold Drake and Jim Steranko, Polaris debuted in 1968’s X-Men #49. Joining the team in the tailend of the Silver Age, Lorna Dane became a recurring character in later years before returning to the spotlight in Peter David’s classic run on X-Factor. The daughter of Magneto, Polaris inherited her father’s powerful magnetic abilities and has used them countless times in some of mutantkind’s fiercest battles. The character currently stars in Leah Williams and David Baldeón’s X-Factor where she uses her expertise to solve Krakoa’s most pressing mysteries. Now, she’ll join Cyclops and Jean Grey in becoming chosen champions of mutantkind and the world.

“Pepe and I are thrilled to have Polaris aboard this year's X-Men team. Leah and David made her shine in X-Factor, and we're going to make sure she continues to rock in X-MEN,” Duggan promises. “The outline is done and dusted, and every member of the team is going to have their issue not just to be the coolest mutant, but the most important character in the Marvel Universe for one month. Can't wait for you to join us. Hope you survive the experience.”

I'm totally satisfied with the results. I think Polaris and Dazzler are two of the most underrated X-Men members of all time and a quite a bit more popular than the X-Men creative teams realize. I hope they give her some good story lines and don't just stand her in as background filler who more or less just steps in the spotlight from time to time when they need her power set.

After months of speculation, Marvel Comics is proud to unveil the new team of X-MEN! Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Sunfire, Rogue, Wolverine, Synch and Polaris will be the lineup in X-MEN, the new ongoing X-series launching in July. Brought to you by a team of X-Men all-stars—writer Gerry Duggan, artist Pepe Larraz, and colorist Marte Gracia—this new flagship X-Men title will showcase the incredible adventures of the first X-Men team since the mutant nation of Krakoa was formed in Jonathan Hickman’s revolutionary House of X and Powers of X.

The current era of X-Men has evolved mutant storytelling like never before. No longer protecting a world that hates and fears them, the X-Men said goodbye to their dream of coexistence and founded a thriving mutant homeland. But in the aftermath of X of Swords, original X-Men Cyclops and Marvel Girl realized that the world needed its premiere team of mutant super heroes. Things might be complicated between the nation of Krakoa and the rest of the Marvel Universe, but to the X-Men, things are simple—you do what’s right, you protect those who need protecting and you save the world we all share. This new team are the chosen champions of mutantkind, and they’re up for any battle to protect their people and their home planet.

“It's my privilege and honor to be reteamed with Pepe Larraz as we throw beautiful and deadly threats at the X-Men beginning in July,” Duggan said. “Mutants have saved themselves, and are now going to save the world. Krakoa will grow roots in the capitol of the world, New York City, and the inaugural year will star Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Rogue, Wolverine, Synch, Sunfire and Polaris. The threats to Earth will come fast and hit hard, and every page from Pepe and Marte will blow your hair back. See you in July.”

See the new team in all their glory on the main cover by Pepe Larraz as well as a special series of variant covers by Marvel’s Stormbreaker artists! Over four connecting covers, this phenomenal jam-piece stands as an homage to Chris Claremont and Jim Lee’s X-Men #1, the all-time best-selling comic book that ushered in the franchise’s nineties blockbuster era. Each elite artist turned out a stunning depiction of the following characters:

· Juann Cabal - Professor X

· Carmen Carnero - Marvel Girl

· Peach Momoko - Sunfire

· Iban Coello - Synch

· R.B. Silva - Cyclops

· Natacha Bustos - Wolverine

· Patrick Gleason - Rogue

· Joshua Cassara – Polaris

Don’t miss the team’s official debut during June’s HELLFIRE GALA, the highly anticipated event that will tie in to all your favorite X-Men titles. And be there for mutant history in the making when X-MEN #1 hits stands on July 7th.

I actually really like this roster, for the most part. I can't believe they're still trying to make this "New" Wolverine thing happen. There's only one Wolverine, and this ain't it. Just let it go already. It's not cool, it's totally forced, and it's completely unconvincing. I love that Rogue and Polaris are back where they belong and hope they are given the proper treatment as the powerhouse characters they are. Great to see Cyke back in charge and glad to see the X-Men becoming a superhero book again.

In regards to Rogue using her most well know 1990's Jim Lee inspired costume:

"Coming soon from Marvel Legends: Re-issued Jim Lee Rogue, now with Circle Belt Buckle instead of Square Belt Buckle".

In all seriousness, while I would probably be okay with a new costume for Rouge, if the artist wants to use Rogue's most well known costume, I'm fine with it.  After all, sometimes styles come, go, and then come back again.
