The Marvel Universe will be the target of new and fascinating mystical threats when the Sorcerer Supreme falls in THE DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE, an upcoming limited series launching this September. Written by Jed MacKay with art by Lee Garbett, DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE will present the final saga of Stephen Strange and explore the dangerous repercussions his death will unleash on the world he so fiercely guarded. With no Sorcerer Supreme, Earth is left entirely defenseless and fans can get their first glimpse at a new team of villains that will take advantage of this new status quo on the cover of November’s DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE #3: THE THREE MOTHERS!

Designed by series artist Lee Garbett, this deadly trio are unlike any the Marvel Universe has encountered before: the Wyrd, an alien mage-priestess; the Crown, a powerful warrior-queen; and the Crawling, a monstress composed of acid-mouthed worms. Will they be the Marvel Universe’s undoing? And were they the ones who killed Stephen Strange?! In the vein of the Thanos’ legendary Black Order, don’t dare miss the debut of the next great Marvel villain team!

And that’s not all November will bring. Announced this past week were two all-new DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE one-shots!

Written by Jed MacKay with art by Marcelo Ferreira, DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE: SPIDER-MAN #1 will reveal that Doctor Strange had a last request for Spider-Man in case of his death, but will current Spider-Man Ben Reilly be up to the task? And is Black Cat tagging along to keep an eye on Ben or to sabotage him?

Writer Alyssa Wong will team up with artist Andie Tong in DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE: WHITE FOX #1 which will see Ami Han, the last of the mystical shape-shifting Kumiho, tested like never before. In the wake of Doctor Strange’s death, a mysterious threat with dark ties to White Fox’s origin will surface to reveal shocking secrets about White Fox’s origin and change her future forever. This startling one-shot will also guest star Sword Master and Tiger Division and will lay to the groundwork for exciting upcoming stories starring these heroes.

Check out Kaare Andrew’s DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE #3 cover below as well as Lee Garbett’s original designs for The Three Mothers. Stay tuned for more DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE including reveals of even more wilder threats and prepare to meet The Three Mothers when DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE #3 arrives in November.

Debuting later this month, DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE will tell the final saga in the life of Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme! Written by Jed MacKay with art by Lee Garbett, this five-issue epic will not only deal with the complex mystery behind Strange’s murder, but also introduce the dangerous mystical and other-dimensional threats that will be unleashed in his absence. Who has the skills and command over the mystic arts to save the Marvel Universe? Find out in December’s DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE #4 where a hero will step up to resume the duties of the Sorcerer Supreme!

Also coming in December will be two new one-shots dealing with the impact Doctor Strange’s death has on the wider Marvel Universe.

Writer Danny Lore and artist Dylann Burnett explore the consequences for Marvel’s vampire community in DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE: BLADE. A long time ago, Doctor Strange destroyed every vampire in the world with one spell, including Dracula. Now, with Strange dead, Dracula’s Vampire Nation celebrates! That doesn’t sit too well with Strange’s old friend, and new Vampire Nation sheriff, Blade the Vampire Hunter! But what happens when interlopers from another dimension invade the vamp’s territory and put all the bloodsuckers’ lives at risk? Will Blade do his duty to protect them? Or will he help make sure the vamps stay wiped out this time?

And mutant masterminds writer Si Spurrirer and Bob Quinn reunite in DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE: X-MEN/BLACK KNIGHT, a crossover issue that will pick up on the aftermath of Spurrier’s critically acclaimed BLACK KNIGHT: CURSE OF THE EBONY BLADE series and recent developments in the world of the X-Men. All manner of vile extradimensional foes are invading Earth following the collapse of Doctor Strange’s magical safeguards for the planet. Dane Whitman, the Black Knight, and his daughter Jacks, now sharing the burden of the Ebony Blade with her father, ride off to confront a terrible evil attacking London – the X-MEN?! Krakoa’s greatest heroes have been transformed – but by what?! Jacks, Dane and Faiza Hussain – wielder of the mighty sword Excalibur – must team up to save the X-Men before an even deadlier threat destroys them all!

Be there on December 22 when a new Sorcerer Supreme rises in DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE #4.

Hate to beat a dead horse....basically I have no interest in this since above all, we know it isn't gonna last. Nor should it.

The main thing these guys don't bother to ask themselves, is not, can we kill character X off, its "why kill this character off? Is it truly necessary?"

The comics publications know by now, that their readers know these "deaths" are wastes of time. But the so-called writers just havent learned how to tell a compelling story. By comparison, look at the Saul Goodman character on Breaking Bad. Writing was so good he got his own show (Better Call Saul),  a prequel of sorts to BB. No spoilers, but in BCS we see him face almost certain death over a number of seasons. Its gripping, its exciting, its compelling,  even though we know he has to survive in order to be in BB.

I don't expect the marvel writers to get that good for Dr. Strange, but really for any story, how about exploring the motivation for the story outside of just what you think is gonna sell copies. Since youre not selling that many anyway.

That is the thing, they never will. Comics are dying but since they have MCU money they don't care. So they make these shocking deaths and universe shaking stories for hype and buzz, so resellers buy bunches

Isn't Wolverine also dying for like the 10th time in his existence?  But Marvel knows that a "Fool & his $$ are soon parted".

You mean X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine? The announcement didn't say it was about him dying. Plus, current X-Men status quo saw mutants find a way to cheat death, they basically respawn and don't make a deal about it.

Is the the Black Knight with the XMen? If so, what’s his story? Why is he with the XMen?

kinda cool design, not sure if it is Dane, but it reminds me of BK.. maybe what they were going for

I think the solicit said the UK was under attack so the X-Men join Black Knight in defending it, I think it’ll also have Dane’s estranged daughter, because the same writer had Dane meet his daughter and they’re both the Black Knight.

So they’ve combined video game respawning with comics. I mean.. comic and gaming deaths have little to no consequence so why not?

at least they seem to be in on the joke with this explanation

Funnily enough, this actually carries a lot of consequences. One of the subplots of the main X-Men series is that people like Ben Urich are raising their eyebrows when they notice previously-dead mutants walking about with no explanation.

One of the razors dangling above Krakoa is that their resurrection protocols prevent precogs from being returned to life, since they don't want anybody to know that Krakoa is pretty much destined to burn to the ground. Of course that means denying a person like Mystique the resurrection of Destiny, and that's what Inferno will be about.
