Disney has confirmed to Deadline that Delroy Lindo has signed on to co-star opposite two-time Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali, who is stepping into the role of the titular character, a half-vampire, a half-mortal hero in the upcoming Blade reboot.

Mahershala Ali's casting was announced at Comic-Con in 2019 and Lindo is currently the only other actor that has been cast, though his exact role is unclear.

Disney also confirmed that Stacy Osei-Kuffour signed on to pen the Marvel reboot and Bassam Tariq will helm the new adaptation.  Osei-Kuffour is the first Black woman to pen a Marvel movie, while Tariq marks the sixth person of color to direct a film for Marvel.

The Blade character was created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan and made his first appearance in the 1973 comic book The Tomb of Dracula. The human-vampire hybrid is a protector of the mortal race while slaying evil vampires. Wesley Snipes played the part in the original Blade trilogy from New Line.

Lindo's movie career has spanned for years, appearing in Malcolm X, Crooklyn, Clockers, Da 5 Bloods, Get Shorty, The Cider House Rules, Gone in 60 Seconds, and Up.

I read that they're planning on Blade to be pg-13 but I'm just not sure it'll have the same bite without an R rating. No pun intended.

Since we don't know yet who Lindo's playing, maybe the part of Whistler is going to someone else. From what I remember, "Whistler" was the movie version of Jamal Afari. If they do plan to resurrect Whistler, Jon-Pyper Ferguson would be a good choice.

He showed up first on Spider-Man: The Animated Series, voiced by Malcolm McDowell and then Oliver Muirhead, but yeah, that's essentially correct. Afari in the comics and Whistler on tv and in the movies...so far.

Yeah, Blade is one of the few times where I think the movie/tv version came out better than the comic. A lot of people forget (or never knew) that Blade originally wasn't American; he was born in Soho (Westminster), London. He had the trenchcoat, goggles and teakwood stakes in the comics. The movie's coat was black leather, the goggles became sunglasses, and the stakes are silver. They added the very cool body armor and sword. So yeah Whistler changed, Blade changed, and now with the new actor will change again I suppose. Though if theyre serious about doing away with the "R" rating, we won't get to hear him say “Some mofos are always trying to ice-skate uphill” again.
