You will want to have seen the season finale of the Disney+ Hawkeye series and Spider-Man: No Way Home before reading this article.

Actor Vincent D’Onofrio who originally played the character of Kingpin (Wilson Fisk) in the Netflix based Daredevil series and more recently reprized the role in the new Disney+ Hawkeye series which just had it's season finale this past week.

With his appearance in Hawkeye, it has left us all wondering if that now makes the Marvel Neflix shows officially part of the MCU? D’Onofrio recently did an interview with Cinemablend where he talks a bit about this. In the interview he states that in his mind the Kingpin seen in the Netflix Daredevil series and the one seen in Hawkeye are one in the same. That Kevin Feige and company will try and connect as many dots as possible, but not all dots are possible to connect.

So in some ways this is kind of a non-answer, but for the most part it doesn't seem like the Netflix shows are technically going to be MCU cannon. For many of the characters that appeared in the Netflix shows, we may see them reprise the same roles if they appear in the MCU such as Kingpin and

Daredevil. We also saw Charlie Cox reprise his role of Matt Murdock in the recent Spider-Man: No Way Home movie, if only for a minute. But I don't think we can expect them to ever reference specific things from the Netflix shows, and likely some things from the Netflix shows will totally forgotten.

Still at the crux, the things these actors did well in bringing the Marvel characters to life during the Netflix show will be kept as they jump into the MCU.

D’Onofrio also confirmed that the outfit he is wearing in the season finale of Hawkeye was inspired by the one seen in the Amazing Spider-Man: Family Business graphic novel.

Kingpin's ending in Hawkeye also seems to be borrowing heavily from the comics. His final confrontation with the character Echo/Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) at the end of the season finale originally played itself out in the Daredevil / Echo: Parts of a Hole storyline back in 1998.

Echo is getting her own Disney+ series, so we could possibly see both Kingpin and Daredevil show up there. Only time will tell.

I really enjoyed the Hawkeye show. It felt like a nice little pocket series that was in its own world, but still connected to the mcu at large. It was just nice and wholesome and soemthing I didn’t mind binging. I was especially stoked when I saw Kingpin show up!!!!! I couldn’t believe it! This show and the arrival of Kingpin has just got me more excited for what’s to come. And with daredevil showing up in no way home the possibilities are endless. And I understand what Vincent means about every dot not connecting. Because when these shows on Netflix we’re on and even the abc ones, there were a lot of things happening in the movies at the time with civil war, registration act, age of Ultron, and some things were referenced and hinted at in the shows and other things weren’t, so it makes sense for the things that didn’t perfectly align with the mcu continuity this far to not be really important or essential to reference for these characters appearing again. This may suck for some things, but could be great for others, like we could possibly get an even better and more bad ass iron fist out of this? And see way more things than we expected. I cnat wait, so glad the mcu is finally pulling all the people in. It’s going to be another crazy 10 years you guys.

Doesn’t matter to me if the Netflix shows are canon or not, the best possible outcome  from those shows demise is that Cox and D’onofrio were allowed to continue on with their incredible performances as DD/ Matt and Kingpin.

If no other actor from those shows gets to reprise their role from their Netflix shows, at least these two have a future in the MCU

The Netflix shows have always been part of the MCU from Jump. During the months leading up to the airing of these shows many fans had asked and it was said that they were. Fans had also asked if there would be any crossovers between Netflix and the Movies and the answer was, "maybe but most likely not, it would depend". Also in the Netflix shows the NY battle that happened in the Avengers movie was reference several times as "The Incident".

Also on Wikipedia, "Produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios, they are set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and acknowledge the continuity of the franchise's films and other television series. "

Interview with a Netflix DD producer back in 2015. Around the 6 min mark he says "Marvel was very supportive in wanting this to be a darker corner of the MCU". Also near the end at around 27:40 mark, the interviewer asked, "Could we see DD and Kingpin in one of the movies meeting the other characters?"

Dude that interview was before the Marvel TV head was fired because he wouldn't work with Fiege. Marvel Tv supported them to spit Fiege because he wanted to bring them into the MCU proper. They are now considered a separate thing all together.

This brother is about as off the page as you can get....out of all the MCU characters we've seen over the past 10+ years, he is the one who most captures the original comic material. Every scene is like a master class of how the Kingpin should be played. Hats off and take a bow. Whatever they're paying him, he deserves more.
