MAFEX Comic Based Thor Figure First Look

Shown below is our first look at the upcoming Medicom MAFEX comic based Thor figure. The figure features a soft-goods cape, and comes with 2 heads sculpts, multiple hands, and multiple versions of Mjölnir including a spinning effect version.

Legends should have done this. Whirling hammer, alt bearded head, lighting effects, comic-accurate colors.

Glad that at least Mafex got the spinning hammer effect right and not that weird 9-10 hammers stuck in a circle-thing MS and ML did.  It's a pretty good and clean figure that captures 70-80s Thor perfectly, albeit way too clean, he would benefit tremendously if they added more shading on the skin, hair, and costume. That very first 20-year-old ML Thor sucked in many ways but the paint job on him was done exceptionally well for that time, highlighting and adding dimension to the sculpt, Mafex easily could have done half of this and way better.

This is something I wish ML would do regularly with their more renowned characters at least — give them 2 different expressions.

I mean I guess it's always nice to have mor than one portrait but this is pretty bland. I was always under the impression that MAFEX was supposed to be the superior brand but this compared to the more recent Thor figures from ML there is no comparison. The spinny hammer and the extra hands are a no sell at that price. Plus the hammer that came with the Ragnarok figure is just as good. Even better IMO. ML hands down is better. I've had some MAFEX in the past and they are also quite brittle and flimsy. Clearly not meant for heavy posing. The is almost an unnecessary figure for anyone but steadfast MAFEX fans.

Hasbro's, and Selects for that matter, attempt on the spinning hammers major problem is that it's way to heavy for ANY figure to hold in one hand. It's especially troublesome if the pose you are going for is above the head. It throws the figures balance off or pulls the arm down due to how heavy it is.

I wonder if the MAFEX version is lighter? It certainly looks nicer with the lighter paint apps

I agree. I’m just saying I wish ML would do more than just a stoic impression all the time on repeat characters. The same blank face over and over on Thor, Daredevil, etc is a bit boring. Gives these mugs some action.

This I agree with as well. Even a happy face every once and a while. Especially if they're 2 or 3 figures in on that character. Anything beyond the stoic tough guy face.

Spinning hammer should be hollow, semi translucent, and not bother with the magic inscription (since at that speed the eye couldn't register it anyway). I'm glad though that the companies have done it; in time it will be perfected.
