Sony Developing Spider-Man Character 'El Muerto' Standalone Marvel Movie Starring Bad Bunny

Deadline has confirmed that Sony Pictures has removed El Muerto, the Bad Bunny-starring Spider-Man spinoff movie being directed by Jonas Cuarón, from its release date of January 12th, 2024.

The film was set to be the first time a Latino character would leave a Marvel live-action film from Cuarón.  The project was in early development with Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer writing the script about El Muerto, a character within Spider-Man’s universe. In Marvel lore, he is an antihero and the son of a luchador next in line to inherit the ancestral power of “El Muerto.”

The source says that the project still remains in development but between Bad Bunny’s tour schedule and the ongoing WGA strike, it makes finalizing a date complicated.

Well this isn't surprising, I don't mean to be the negative one, but I do hope this just doesn't end up happening, we really don't need Sony doing more of this, no need for an El Muerto movie, and with that Hypno Hustler or a movie about any random character just for the sake of it.

Yeah Sony seem to be thinking that going the MCU way and just stick a Marvel character in a movie means that it will make big bucks

That is probably a good thing. Everything staring with the casting of Bad Bunny has looked like nothing but a complete dumpster fire from the start. After Morbius and how bad Kraven is starting to look its probably best if they just put it off for a bit and decide what thenext best move is. El Muerto is not it.

Wait, so the guy with two comic book appearances wasn't a big enough character to carry his own movie?  Shocking!

Maybe they'll replace this movie with "Crook from the cover of Amazing Fantasy #15" or "Boinard: The Movie"

I'm just kidding of course.  It'll be a F.A.C.A.D.E. film.

With F.A.C.A.D.E. they could at least finally reveal his true identity

Here's my take on not wanting studios to do these empty, 3rd string characters/shows: they can't exist without the viewer hoping the Main Event will show, which it never does. You HOPE to see actual Avengers in SHIELD, Batman in Gotham, Superman in Smallville, etc. but it doesn't happen and to me, it just makes everyone else look sad. The other thing is they're generally so slapped together, that they come off cheap and hollow, and this can make production for the Real Thing by the studios harder to come by. They don't mind putting serious money and talent into projects that are blockbusters, but if they fail, wow does the money and attention dry up fast.

Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known professionally as Bad Bunny was interviewed by Vanity Fair about sex, social media, the WWE, and his attempt at making movies.

Bad Bunny was questioned about being cast in the title role of Marvel’s El Muerto, a Spider-Man spin-off about a luchador whose mask imbues him with superhuman strength.  Unfortunately, production has been halted and the studio decided to pull the project from its release calendar.  When asked what happened, Bad Bunny hesitated and responded with "I don’t know what to say," and that the issue was "delicate."

Not unexpected, and also a good thing in my eyes, no need for this, it's just a sad cash grab from Sony to ride the coattails of Spider-Man, we really don't need these random Spidey character movies, can't they already see it's been a bad move all along, Venom (which is likely the best of this no goodness, but still not very good), Venom 2, Morbius..Kraven which I can only imagine is dookie, they need to pull the plug fast, don't dump money into a pit.
