Marvel Legends Vs MAFEX - The Iron Man Proton Cannon

The Iron Man Proton Cannon is best know as a weapon used by Iron Man for one of his super moves in the Capcom Marvel Video Games. Both Hasbro and Medicom have recently done versions of this cannon for the Marvel Legends and MAFEX lines.

Medicom has released the cannon with their recent MAFEX Classic Iron Man figure which really isn't the right armor for it but I guess they have no plans to release a Modular Armor Iron Man. Hasbro has released the cannon with their second release of their Modular Iron Man figure which is the Iron Man featured in the Capcom games. The Hasbro figure here in the US is being released as a Pulse exclusive.

Shown below via Isaac Wong are over 70 in-hand images of both the MAFEX Classic Iron Man and the Marvel Legends Modular Armor Iron Man which includes comparisons of both figures and their cannon's.

Good thing the Proton Cannon is not the main reason I want this MAFEX comic Iron Man, Hasbro really showed how it's done. Not only in terms of the size, but also the sculpt, color, and the inclusion of a support stand.

While I'm relieved to see that this figure is in perfect scale with Marvel Legends, I gotta admit I'm not in a hurry to get it. Looking at it and A.I. Iron Man side-by-side and I have to say that prefer the frame of Hasbro's figure. Really the only thing Hasbro needs to do to make me stop contemplating this purchase is to make a classic Iron Man that is pinless, has visible eyes, and comes with rollerskates.

Hasbro's Cannon is amazing, in size,, stand, sculpt, it only lacks a metallic paint, that's Mefex's best element the paint (it's too small), but even then it's just all silver, the Hasbro has some additional deco, Hasbro got this one. I also find it just strange that Mafex would include this cannon with that Iron Man?

Hasbro takes this one. Not only is the armor correct to the accessory, which is almost it's own figure itself, but it is more accurate to the game it gets it's inspiration from. MAFEX's looks cool and has a great paint job, but where the hell is that thing from.

As a matter of fact, Hasbro's actually been handing MAFEX's ayass to them quite a bit lately. Even with the recent price hike(s) the price vs. product has been much more in favor of Hasbro. Sure MAFEX has some cool accessories and mostly better paint aps, but nothing in any MAFEX ever had convinced me the product is worth the price.

Couple of things:

never understood why Iron Man would need a BFG in the first place. Isn’t his Armor his “gun”?? Someone somewhere thought it made a cool visual, and it is  cool. Just unnecessary

like the variations on unmasked Tony’s we are getting through various figures. But... the Mafex one looks suspiciously like a German dictator lol

like the size comparison between Legends and Mafex. I own some JUSTICE LEAGUE Mafex figures and they don’t quite fit with Legends. This IM looks very close.

Mafex has been getting a few little things right. Symbiote Spidey’s blue  bottoms of his feet and IMs roller skates. Very nice little touches that would tip the scales for Mafex if not for the cost. Buy hey, give it 3 months, Legends will cost the same

somehow I missed that IM has 3 heads. Which armored head is the comic version and which is the video game version?

EPIC mullet.

The one without the mouthpiece is the MVC version OR comic version. The one with the mouth is the Animated version.

Oh ok.. I guess I thought the comic / cartoon were the same and the game was the different style.

Thanks for the information
