Daniel Kaluuya To Voice Spider-Punk In Sony's Animated Sequel Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

Daniel Kaluuya will be adding his voice talents to the upcoming animated feature Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Kaluuya joins an ensemble voice cast that includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Jason Schwartzman.

The original featured the teenage Miles Morales (Moore) becoming the Spider-Man of his universe, then joining with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat to all realities.  Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be another epic adventure transporting Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood web-slinger across the Multiverse. He’ll again join forces in the new title with Gwen Stacy (Steinfeld), while working with a new team of Spider-People, to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

Kaluuya will voice the super-powered New York teenager Hobart “Hobie” Brown, a.k.a. “Spider-Punk” — a character from comic book scribe Dan Slott and artist Olivier Coipel, who was introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 #10 in 2015.

The sequel is being directed by Justin K. Thompson, Joaquim Dos Santos, and Kemp Powers, with the original’s writer-producer Phil Lord and producer Christopher Miller to be credited as writers, along with David Callaham. Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Lord, Miller, and Christina Steinberg are producing, with Ramsey and Persichetti returning to exec produce alongside Aditya Sood.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set for theaters on June 2nd, 2023, with the third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, set for March 29th, 2024.

Sounds cool, I'm a  big fan of Daniel, I'm stoked to see Spider-Punk make it on the big screen in Animated form, he's one of my fav Spider-People.

Empire Magazine brings us a new look at Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse and will have six dominant animation styles: "The ambition of this movie is to wow you," producer Phil Lord tells Empire.

"When Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse hit cinemas in 2018, it broke computer-generated animation as we know it – re-modelling the medium in front of our very eyes into something that felt entirely new. Playing around with frame-rate, multiple animation styles, comic book textures and more, it ripped up the rulebook and wrote its own; one in perfect sync with the origin story of incoming hero Miles Morales. But if that wasn’t ambitious enough, Miles’ next adventure is about to double down on everything that made the first film so special.

So much so that 2023’s Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse isn’t just one sequel – it’s two, a double-whammy of multiverse-hopping madness, set to conclude in 2024’s Beyond The Spider-Verse (previously Across The Spider-Verse – Part 2). That wild ambition means the eye-popping visuals are about to get even more dazzling too.“The first film had one animation style that dominates the movie. This movie has six,” laughs returning producer Phil Lord. “So we’re taking those tools, adding all the things we learned on The Mitchells Vs The Machines, and then growing them further to accommodate the ambition of this movie. Which is to wow you every time you enter a new environment, and also to make sure that the style of the movie reflect the story, and that the images are driven by feelings, as opposed to some egg-headed art project. Which it also is, by the way!”

As the title Across The Spider-Verse would suggest, expect an epic trek through various Spider-realities. “The two that you saw in the teaser trailer were what’s called Earth-50101, which we’re calling ‘Mumbattan’ – that’s based on an Indian comic-book look – and Nueva York from Spider-Man 2099’s world,” explains producer Christopher Miller. “That’s based on Syd Mead-style illustrations of what the future might look like. There’s also Gwen’s world, which is Earth-65. And that was a watercolour-wash style that’s reminiscent of the covers of her comic books.” Miles Morales’ journey has only just begun – the Spider-Verse awaits."

As much as I hate any Sony Spider-Man, I have to admit the first one was really good. I wish they'd just make a deal that MCU does all live action, and pays royalties, while they focus on Peter. Then Sony can do all the animated stuff and focus on Miles and the Spiderverse stuff.
