Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter, the chairman of Marvel Entertainment, and the man who sold Marvel to Disney has been laid off from Disney in an attempt at cost-cutting measures.

Marvel Entertainment’s co-president Rob Steffens and chief counsel John Turitzin were also dismissed from their position.  Dan Buckley, president of the division, is staying and will report to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.

Lay-offs and firings from Disney have been an ongoing struggle as the company is attempting to reduce costs by $5.5 billion, which included reducing the workforce by 7,000 employees, as well as the expected return of the dividend payment for shareholders by the end of 2023.

Perlmutter made news in 2009 when he sold Marvel to Disney for $4 billion.  He first took control of Marvel Entertainment in the 90s when the comic book company was in the midst of bankruptcy and it was folded into Toy Biz, the toy company co-run by Perlmutter and Avi Arad.

Perlmutter and Arad, both responsible for bringing us amazing things (Toybiz, saving Marvel comics, kick starting the MCU)  and so many awful things and bad decisions. Both such despicable characters that by the end nobody wanted to deal with them but couldn't get rid of them. Perlmutter won't be missed and will go down in infamy for his notorious penny pinching. Hopefully morale and better talent will return to Marvel comics now he's gone.

I thought that was because Feige and Loeb don't get along. Or do you mean the fact that Marvel Television and Marvel Studios were separate entities in the first place?

Loeb was only Perlmutter's lapdog. When he was made the head of Marvel, he appointed Loeb to Marvel TV and they worked to try to pull as many characters as they could into the TV side so Fiege couldn't use them. Fiege had to essentially go over both their heads and threaten to quit if he was given full control of all of the MCU.

Yeah, but nevertheless the damage was already done, many series with misused characters, let's hope with born again, they will give some characters a second chance in the MCU...
