My brother. Truer words were never spoken. Excellently put.

SO on the fence about this, yet excited that (some) effort was made. However. I have a few thoughts...

Why do I need another chunk of armor when we could have gotten Wanda in her "Darker Than Scarlet" costume? That gray Black Widow head is just screaming to be reused for it. I know I'm in the minority, but a man in a tin suit is about as exciting as Batman or Spider-Man 🥱😴💤

The "extras". Since when do what apparently seem to be mostly just a lot of extra hands qualify as "16 comics-inspired accessories"? Hasbrahs, please. We all have fists. Stan & Jack didn't invent those. 🙄

Bobbie's sleeves. WTAF are those pointy little elbow things actually supposed to represent? The box art does away with them entirely, underscoring the fact that what we're getting is an obviously cheap cop-out. Mockingbird's classic costume is ALL about those billowy sleeves -- for ALL the reasons (particularly the previously mentioned hiding her battle staves).

Tigra. OMG. They got her right. No more Day-Glo orange. And. Aaaaaand new hair!!! Y'all all missed that. So many complaints about the slicked back circa 1994 runway model hair her prior release had and none of y'all noticed how wispy and bouncy and perfect the hair on the "pretty face" reissue is. She's the ONLY must-have in this box for me. (Anyone wanna trade?) Despite the fact that they still haven't painted on all of her stripes. Her inner thighs and arms should have deco too, fellas. 🙀

OK. Hasbrahs, listen up. The OBVIOUS follow-ups to this are:

  • Inhuman Royal Family: classic Crystal, Gorgon, Karnak, Triton & Maximus. Lockjaw + Luna as a deluxe.
  • Warriors Three + classic Balder & Karnilla
  • New Mutants: Sam & 'Berto in their training uniforms -- plus Magma (powered up), Cypher & headmaster Magneto (the purple & white "M" costume)
  • Young Avengers: those ToyBiz things are almost as fugly as your Kate Bishop. Redo her, classic look. Pus OG Wiccan, Speed, Stature & Eli. Release Iron Lad & Kid Vision with Viv as a 3-pack. And Hulking as a semi-deluxe.
  • Lady Liberators: Wasp (yellow & red cowled classic...only the top two wings -- who told y'all she EVER had 4 wings?!? Also, make her short for once), Medusa (OG masked), 70s Black Widow (with zipper AND bouffant + bangs), Wanda (for god's sake, get her classic colors, boots, 40s hair, etc right for once), and classic Valkyrie (OK, it was really the Enchantress, but just go with it).
  • Women You Keep Criminally Ignoring: Marrina, Talisman, Madelyne Pryor (get the costume right), Hepzibah & Feral

I just realized that this is the second Amazon 5-pack coming this year. Has that happened before? Maybe they're just trying to cash in on both anniversaries this year at the same time. They only did the Spider-Man 5-pack last year and then the Venom 3-pack, but not 2 different 5-packs I don't think.

No I don't believe it has but if you think about how Walgreens no longer has a deal for exclusives and they usually did about 4 figures a year on related themes such as Cosmic, Fantastic Four, Mutants then this might just be where Amazon fills that spot. If you think about it Walgreens could have done this as exclusives throughout the year and had us running around like chickens trying to find them. This way it's all in one shot and even a 5th figure. Better or worse it sure is expensive but I think it all evens out in the end.

this is only the first. They had the Black Knight/Sersi 2-pack and the Ronan sets but they haven't released or announced another for this year yet.

The Spider-man set was for last year and that was it. And the X-men set was a fan Channel not Amazon.

Oh ok, I don't know why I was thinking the X-Men set was Amazon too.

Yesterday we told you about the newly announced Amazon exclusive Marvel Legends West Coast Avengers Boxset from Hasbro which is now available for pre-order on the Amazon website for $124.99. This set includes Hank Pym and Classic Mockingbird which are being released for the first time in the line along with slightly modified re-releases of Silver Centurion Iron Man, Tigra and Spider-Woman.

From what we can tell the only difference between this Tigra and the most recent one Hasbro released is the orange on the skin has been toned down. The previous Tigra came with two headsculpts where this one only comes with the more angry looking one.

The Julia Carpenter version of Spider-Woman was last released in the MCU Molten Man BAF wave. This new version has a new headsculpt and comes with closed fisted hands that were not included with the original figure. The original figure did have an extra hand with a web shooting out of it that is not included here.

The Silver Centurion Iron Man was previously released as a Walgreens exclusive. This new version has white on the arms and legs as opposed to silver and the eyes on the helmet are blacked out. The shoulder pads look like they may have also been slightly modified to give it a more comic accurate look than that of the Walgreens one. This Walgreens one had a few more replusor type effects included, but you do get the standard versions with this new figure.

For those who are looking to round out their West Coast Avengers team we would also recommend you check out these figures which are still available as well:

The recently announced Hawkeye with Sky-Cycle. Hawkeye was a founding team member and for most of the time the team's leader. While Hawkeye has been released multiple times in the line over the years, this is the newest version and you also get the cool Sky-Cycle which was also featured in several issues of West Coast Avengers.

Classic Wonder Man which is available now. This version of Wonder Man was featured in the original 4-issue WCA mini-series. Granted he wore his traditional black and red outfit more in the series which Hasbro has done a version of, but that is an older released figure and you will likely have to go to the secondary market to pick that one up if you don't have it already.

If you want a more classic looking Iron Man figure for the team then we would recommend getting the Tony Stark (A.I.) figure which was released in the Mr. Hyde BAF wave. While there have been other Iron Man figures released by Hasbro in the Marvel Legends line over the years that would work for this team, the AI one has that classic yellow and gold look that fits the comics and is still available at a reasonable price. When WCA first started, it was actually James Rhodes under the helmet and not Tony Stark who at the time was wearing the classic yellow and gold armor. Later on Stark resumed the role of Iron Man and was also part of the team.

So that rounds out the original team members, however since this new boxset also features Spider-Woman who didn't join the team until issue #70, we also recommend checking out these figures. Note the art on the packaging for this new boxset is NOT comic book accurate. It says issue #60 on it but the artwork is actually loosely based on issue #1 Vol 2 of the series. They replaced Wonder Man with Spider-Woman and Hawkeye with Hank Pym.

Pym who at the time had retired from the super hero life had been around off and on pretty early on in WCA, but didn't really officially join the team and start wearing the red jumpsuit until around issue #20. He still didn't want to resume any of his previous super hero identities such as Ant-Man, Giant Man or Yellowjacket which is why he wore the jumpsuit as opposed to a traditional super hero costume.

Anyway getting back to the other figure recommendations for the team, I recommend the newest USAgent figure Hasbro released. Walker was originally forced on the team by the government in issue #44. He and Hawkeye didn't always see things eye-to-eye.

Scarlet Witch and White Vision. The newest White Vision figure Hasbro released on a Toy Biz Retro cardback is currently available on Amazon for $15.72. These two played a significant role on the team during the VisionQuest storyline that began in issue #42 and explains why Vision turned white for a time.

Mockingbird is must, she's not perfect but decent enough, it seems cheap they are putting so much reuse here in order for us to get classic Mockingbird. I also get that there was always small but strong demand for that Hank Pym. Spider-Woman is an improvement but I wish they waited little bit and gave us one with inverted ab crunch, but double joints alone make her worthy for me but I'm definitely gonna use her previous head sculpt.  Tigra in more yellows orange is no brainer, new hair piece also works really well, despite owning previous release I might consider getting her but I couldn't care less for that Iron man with white plastic.

Oh man what a great set. It's not perfect but Scientific Adventurer Pym and Mockingbird are two more major boxes checked in an anniversary celebration full of major boxes checked.

This Pym is really cool and Hasbro clearly has made the effort to give fans classic looks we've been waiting for.

Tigra. Remind me again why they "cant" do classic Moondragon?

I absolutely pre-ordered this set. Can't wait to see what classic Avenger gets made next

Oh and it would be a lot cooler if ya did Hasbro by making sure Pym's head fits on the recent Target Ant-Mans body. Be nice to be able to have an unmasked look for Ant-Man with out having to risk damaging the Pym sculpt by dremeling it to fit

Thats just it, they didn't make the effort....Pym's jump suit is supposed to be loaded with pockets, where he stores his miniaturized items/weapons/gadgets. Its the entire function of the jumpsuit. This is like Batman's utility belt with just a yellow band and buckle. They got leg pockets for Spiral, so how did they miss it here.

Mockingbird is even worse. This is just egregious. Instead of the billowing sleeves she's supposed to have where she stores her battle staves, they gave her these limp, useless flaps. Its even more baffling since they've already done Lady Deathstrike!  These were easily fixable blunders that showed poor effort. No, this is just not worth the money.

Well you're not wrong, these aren't perfect. But let's be real, we won't get another shot at Pym in this suit. Mockingbird maybe could show up on a Retro card as an apology/updated figure but we can't be 100% certain either. Truthfully,  Mockingbird appears to be Hasbro’s "take " on couple of her classic looks.

But I like what this set brings as a huge WCA fan. I can recognize the shortcomings but the alternative is no version at all. This set is full of repaints as has become the norm for Amazon. But I'd probably buy this silver Centurion with the white same as  did when they did the same repaint on War Machine. Spider-Woman is a nice update, Tigra is the one I actually feel is the biggest flop as I didn't mind her colors originally.  And Hank and Mockingbird are pretty great to me even if I agree with a few of your points. Every set so far has had 2-3 figures that could have been done better and the same applies here. I bought the Wolverine set on the strength of shirtless Wolverine alone and sold the rest. (Not sure why I didn't just find him loose haha) and would have loved a Razorback but not for any of the other figures so I passed

The price isn't ideal but it isn't the worst by far. I pre-ordered  a set and may even grab a second when the price drops like they all have.

Can't agree with the conclusion "we won't get another shot at" Pym or really, any of the figures; in this set alone they took another shot at Silver Centurion, Spider-Woman and Tigra. Hasbo did two Mojos almost back-to-back, two Longshots the same and that's in basically the same year. But even if they never re-did these, that's no excuse for turning in sub-par work. FOMO is just not a driving factor for me.

I like the idea of the box set, and with a little care, this could've been a great one. Here's an idea though, what if they did an accurate Mockingbird, a Red Wolf (with Lobo), Wonder Man (same outfit as WCA #1 but beefier build than the Abomination BAF) and Graviton instead?

I'd love the box set you propose. What makes you think Hasbro wouldn't cut corners with that one two haha.

OK Hasbro has been re-doing figures left and right so there is always a chance that Red Jumpsuit Pym gets remade.  But outside of Avengers fans who would want him, Pyms suit getting remade is like  Hasbro redoing Rock Python. Sure there is a chance, but not much of one..

I get everything you're saying, and it's valid. For me it's not FOMO at all, I truly like the set and am stoked to get it. And hey, if Pym or Mockingbird do get redos, then these go from the long list of figures that were the best we got until they made them better list alongside Retro Ant-Man, any Wolverine post Hit Monkey wave, Cap, Thor, Spider-Man ... you get the idea.

It's part of the risk/reward price we pay as collectors. Sometimes we get a huge whiff from Hasbro, sometimes they knock it out of the park, though usually it takes them a few trys to get us that definitive version. And if they never get around to redoing Pym and Mockingbird, then at least this set gave fans their only shot at them

This set gives us two more much requested West Coast  Avengers and another shot at three others if you missed them or want updated versions (for better or worse).

Hasbro probably can never truly complete the Avengers (or XMen) since new members are constantly being added. But the WEST COAST AVENGERS only needs a few more characters to give us the complete team. They are:

The Thing.  he'd need to be in his Black and red suit to represent his time with the WCA (like 4 or 5 issues haha)

Firebird. Or Espirita depending if you count her very short time as this incarnation

Moon Knight of course with the gold accessories

Jim Hammond Human Torch. Currently using the translucent Johnny Storm as a stand in. This guy would be so easy to do powered up or down

Living Lightning, again would need a powered up and down version

That's it. Shoot there's our next box set.

I don't count the Shroud, seems people always confuse him as an early member because of a pin up in the back of an Annual but his entire association as it were was listening to Hawkeye's recruitment pitch and deciding he was going to keep doing his own thing. Nor do I count the recent team led by Kate Bishop. Strictly classic WCA

In one form or another we've got Darkhawk, Machine Man, to fill out their ranks as well as the versions JayC posted at the top.

Here's to completing a classic Marvel Team

Mockingbird's extra wide sleeves along with Pym's outfit, werent that hard to do. The pockets are a critical part of his powers; he stores a multitude of objects/weapons etc. that he can shrink or enlarge as needs be. Its a critical part of why his costume is the way it is. And when you factor in that they did it correctly for Spiral (she was virtually perfect), and add in that they detailed it for Egghead's shirt and lab coat, its just a degree of neglect we as collectors shouldn't dismiss.

it's two pockets on the thighs. let it go. Let people enjoy this figure.

But I agree with the Mockingbird, Hopefully when they get around to doing the full body suit they will have the flaired sleeves.
