Maybe I'm thinking into this too much but Marvel will be releasing six of the Marvel Legends X-Men 97-based figures of Storm, Wolverine, Bishop, Gambit, Rogue, and Magneto, retailing at $24.99 each.

You can also pick up the Marvel Legends X-Men 97 boxset, retailing at $44.99, that includes Storm, Rogue, Cyclops, Wolverine, and Gambit.

So Marvel is throwing in Cyclops for the box set, but not including Magneto and Bishop.  Won't most completists just get the box set and then pick up Magneto and Bishop to save money?  Logically thinking, Marvel would have made a better deal by adding Magneto and Bishop to the boxset and charged maybe $64.99 retail.

I'm reminded of the Cantina band figure situation in the Black series.  High priced deluxe figure with three instruments and swappable hands on Pulse and a lower priced version of the figure with three different instruments for retail. A lot of collectors figured out that if they wanted the whole band, they could save money by just ordering one of the higher priced deluxe figures and multiples of the regular retail figure.

I believe the "box set" is from the epic heroes line and the bonus figure is gambit.

Based on the description, it's an X-Men ’97 Team Up Pack, but it comes with 4-inch-scale action figures instead of 6-inch figures.  It also only comes with 6 accessories, while each 6-inch figure comes with 2-3 entertainment-inspired accessories.

I'd say that their marketing team determines, rightly or wrongly, that certain characters aren't as strong sellers as others, so their waves are bolstered by A-listers like Iron Man. And he organically already has a wide variety of armor suits, so that solves a number of issues.

Overused, perhaps. That Shang-Chi wave was weak sauce right out the gate so it needed help. The classic comic Shang-Chi would've been a perfect choice over Iron Man, and then maybe use Shockwave.

For the Marvels wave, why they didn't use first appearance Ms. Marvel is beyond me.  So her, her Cockrum outfit, Captain Mar-Vell, and space field Genis Vell would've been better.

Oh and the BAF is Deathbird, of course.

Yeah we ain't getting Mephisto at retail anytime soon, so that was a no-go. I honestly don't need the Mindless Ones (it does look nice though) so I'll probably just sell off my parts since I don't plan to get that Iron Man or the Fist ninja.

Rest of the wave is a win though. Great character selection.

to be honest, I always figured that the Mindless ones would be a BAF. They are just too unique to make as a regular figure. in 2 or 3 years when it gets re-release it will probably be recolored eye and brown skin.

But no. People have been waiting too long for Lady Bullseye for her to be replaced with someone else. Yes maybe the fist ninja could be replaced but with DD and Elektra being based on that story they need minions to fight the hand.

There are rumors about Mephisto popping in the MCU. Given that Disney's Marvel is incorporating Deadpool with it's F bombs, nips and blood spurts, I could see their devil stand-in character making an appearance.

Those rumours have been around for years. Nearly every movie has a Mephisto is going to appear rumour

It looks like i'll be getting ahold of three of these. It looks like both Gambit and Magneto got an upgrade to some form of the Vulcan model. And there are actually two variations. Don't believe it? just take a look at the subtle differences between the Gambit and Banshee figures in the team uniform 3 pack. Very similar but clearly different. Of course this is a much improved Bishop figure so that was an automatic. I do like the face sculpt on Storm. Shoot I'll probably just end up getting the set. Who do I think I'm kidding?

I'm still conflicted on these X-Men '97 Legends. I'm the type who ideally only wants to keep one figure of each character, so for me to get these I have to believe that they're the best version of the character that we've gotten. Wolverine, Magneto and Bishop all look really good - but I'm not quite convinced that they're better than what we already have. Being pinless helps, but it's not the determining factor. I still have time to make up my mind, though. I might have to see some reviews and comparisons before I buy.

For Wolverine, the tiger stripe costume has always been my favorite - so I'd be considering this one as a replacement for the one from the Hasbro Apocalpse BAF wave.

For Magneto, I'd be considering this one as a replacement for the Family Matters 3-pack version.

For Bishop, I'd be comparing this version versus the Sauron wave version. My first instinct is to just stick with the Sauron wave version because I like that look better for the character.

For the other 3, I've been using the retro card versions and I don't really see these being an upgrade over those - especially since these are more "cartoony", which I'm not a fan of. I do kind of hope that they give us a comic Bloodstorm at some point and that new Storm head might be a precursor to that.

Realistically, there's a decent chance that I'm in on Magneto and Wolverine and skipping the rest, but we'll see. I may end up deciding the animated coloring doesn't look as good as the older non animated figures and stick with what I've got. The colors definitely look brighter on these animated versions, but not sure just how much brighter yet without a fair side-by-side.

I've cut back so much on buying Legends, but I can see these as great replacements for those that might have missed them the first time around. 

On another Merry Mutant note, the improved models used now can only enhance classic Phoenix, Banshee and Neal Adams' Angel. Hopefully soon!

Would gladly snag that Wolverine but kinda want to wait and see what they have up their sleeves for his anniversary. It is their best tiger-stripe so far; just wish they’d do a pre-90s style mask for this suit one time. I want to like Magneto but his arms are looking pretty oranguntangy and the red gloves seem, to me, like an unnecessary change to the suit

Can't figure out why, but I'm having trouble getting excited about most of these Spider-Man animated series figs, in spite of the fact I loved the show (and so did my boys at the time). In spite of the odd shading at times, I actually liked the X-Men animated series figs overall a bit more and bought them. Maybe it's that those actually looked more comic-based and not as "cartoonish" as these? That would be ironic, right? I just don't know. Very odd. Normally I'm a sucker for just about anything Spider-Man.

I never cared for the animated show so no loss here. Its good to see hasbo venturing out though and looking into different eras.

I'm not into MCU figures much, so the Infinity Saga and No Way Home stuff doesn't excite me much. I might have interest in the civilian figures (Murdock, MJ, Banner), but that's probably it.

That would be more than mildly infuriating, and I would expect a crapton of returned product missing the unmasked headsculpts in stores.

Spider-Man NWH wave: Not much from the SM movies catches my interest but will be interesting to see the 3 individually-packaged Spider-Man figs that already (I assume) appeared in the 3-pack.

Avengers Infinity Wave: Looks like the best MCU Black Widow yet (head sculpt in particular), and there are some others of definite interest in that one.

None of this Movie stuff has me interested, don't collect that, but I'm really happy for everyone out there who has been highly anticipating NWH stuff, and of course I'm sure these figures will look really good, but I will keep my wallet in my pocket for them, except that Black Widow is highly tempting, just because it's Black Widow.

Aw man, I didn't even think about all the people who are going to just swipe unmasked heads and return them.  People were shameless before the closed-box nonsense.  That is definitely on the horizon.
