Marvel Studios and Disney+ have recently revealed the updated logo for the upcoming WandaVision spinoff, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.  The show, featuring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, is scheduled to debut in the Fall of 2024. Originally titled Agatha: House of Harkness, the show underwent a name change in July 2022 to Agatha: Coven of Chaos before being officially renamed by Disney in September of this year.

The cast for the series includes Aubrey Plaza as Rio, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone as Lilia, Sasheer Zamata as Jen K, and Ali Ahn as Alice, with additional members such as Emma Caulfield Ford, Maria Dizzia, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Okwui Okpokwasili.

I'm actually excited for this show since I loved Agatha in Wandavision but I still think Coven of Chaos was a much cooler name. Oh well.

I though I like Agatha at first but once I started analyzing the situation it turns out I was actually a fan of the Agnes character. The Agatha character was coma inducing.

I thought she was a really fun villain. And I don't really think it's fair to judge the character at this point from the two episodes she appeared in that were literally nothing but exposition. I'm sure she'll be way more interesting in her show.

It was Wonder Man and Vision Quest I think.

More than anything I'm a Kathryn Hahn fan. A true Lady Boss and I really hoped she'd brought more to the Agatha role. And maybe she did work her magic and it wound up on the cutting room floor because she made her too likeable. At any level I'm at a Wait-N-See status with anything Disney+ at this point. I'll set back and let someone else tell me whether it's watchable before I waste my time again. Especially after that She-Hulk mess. I was soooo sad with what they did to Jen. It's that taste that you will never get out of your mouth.

I don’t even understand when people get upset with She-Hulk. That show was fantastic. Now, Moon Knight? Hawkeye? Those were boring shows. And I reallllly wanted to like Moon Knight.

alot of incels (yes I'm using that term) got upset that She-Hulk was essentially making fun of them near the end.

The problem I'm finding with the Marvel shows is my own bias--I seek the "iconography" of the characters--Moon Knight flaring his cape, She-Hulk breaking the 4th wall.  That stuff identifies the characters and it places them into two worlds for me--the cinema and the comics.  And it's fan-service...sure, as sparse as it is.  The added stuff is filler, but I'm choosy about it.  The incel-baiting in She-Hulk is funny while being baiting......but it's ONLY in that show. It's corralled and I'm good with that.  Other shows have similar quirks.  Loki is like a nightmarish fever dream, Wandavision was like a SNL-Dick Van Dyke show skit, that goes awry.
But I get it..........they HAVE TO BE their own animals. They cannot be "comics" all the time, through and through, because comics are.......well, sadly very derivative and repetitive in a lot of ways......so things need to diverge down new roads to a degree.

Moon Knight is still my favorite D+ show. It just worked for me, the atmosphere, the villain and especially the actors. The ending didn’t even feel as rushed as other shows. I get that it wasn’t everyone’s wheelhouse but I thought it was successful at what it was trying to do. I do hope we see more of both the suits/fights and Jake in season 2 though.

Yeah, She-Hulk was fine at times but I wouldn’t watch it again. It just really didn’t work for me. Same with Secret Invasion. I’m losing faith in a lot of these shows now, Loki S2 is fantastic but I don’t really count that since it’s not a new show. I’m tentatively excited for Agatha to be a fun show but I don’t have much faith in Echo or Ironheart being very good. Born Again has a ton of potential but the show being put back on the chopping block makes me nervous.

I liked Agatha until I couldn't get that dumb song  out of my head....

Not too bummed they are/maybe scrapping Wonderman. Much like Agatha's solo show, it seems  born out of hubris than a clear direction. It would have no doubt been an unremarkable show with a talented cast that got lost in ocean of similar pointless shows.

I for one am glad the MCU is tightening things up. My enthusiasm has ebbed since they $@!+ the bed with Moon Knight, Ant-Man 3, and really mist projects since Endgame

I don't think the Agatha show was really that out of left field honestly. Her character was very well-received in Wandavision and was left on a cliffhanger at the end. She was bound to either get her own project or appear as a side character/antagonist again and personally I'm glad they went with the former.

On the whole, I think people are too harsh on everything put out in the last few years. Hot takes but Multiverse of Madness was the only objectively bad film to come out recently imo, that movie just crapped all over everyone in that movie's character in a time when they should have been being built up for future projects. Love and Thunder was a bit of a missed opportunity with how little Gorr it had, but it was still a fun ride. Wakanda Forever, Shang-Chi, GOTG3 and NWH are genuinely some of my favorite MCU projects ever released. And I've never understood the hate for Ant-Man 3. It was a bit weird to have Kang as the villain of an Ant-Man movie sure, but they made it work. I could go on about why I disagree with most of the people who hate that movie, but the tone and atmosphere really worked for me.

Granted, FFH is my favorite live-action Spider-Man film, so I'm used to having the unpopular opinion lol.

Yeah, I get that, and I know fringe groups like that can be quite loud on the internet, but it doesn’t just seem to be incels (and others who feel threatened by feminism) who really hate the show. I think a lot of people just weren’t expecting the tone, maybe? Either way, my investment in that character (and basically all other MCU characters so far) is quite low, but I thought it was one of the most entertaining MCU shows yet.

Agatha Harkness, portrayed by Kathryn Hahn, is set to return in the upcoming Disney+ series, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Marvel Studios gave fans a sneak peek of the spinoff in the Blu-Ray release of WandaVision, where Hahn and the creators hinted at what's to come. According to Jac Schaeffer, the head writer and executive producer, she pitched several ideas to Marvel, and all of them included a storyline about Agatha.

Quote

“I remember Kevin [Feige] saying to me, ‘We really should think about an actual Agatha show,’ and I was like, ‘Where do I sign for that job?'” Schaeffer recalled.  “The character is so deep and heartfelt and dangerous,” co-executive producer Mary Livanos said. “Continuing the story of Agatha and getting to know her more was immediately an imperative for us as creatives. There would be nothing more delicious to Agatha Harkness than to be in a spinoff.”

The initial installment of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries has been summarized and released via the U.S. Copyright Office Public Records System.

Quote

“In the first episode we see Agatha Harkness (Hahn) finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in,” reads the description. “She can’t wait to go back to her old murderous ways only to find that she is powerless. The only way forward for her is to embark on a perilous quest to get her powers back with the help of an unlikely friend or two.”

To celebrate the release of WandaVision on 4K UHD and Blu-ray, Marvel Entertainment has shared a deleted scene and a gag reel featuring Kathryn Hahn's character, Agatha Harkness. The gag reel showcases the cast members, including Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and Evan Peters, breaking character while filming the series. On the other hand, the deleted scene takes place during the finale, where Agatha is seen sitting on a park bench while emergency personnel try to control the situation. A paramedic approaches her and asks if she's injured, to which Agatha responds with a witty remark.

Not excited for this one. Not poo-pooing the character or the actor but Agatha is not a marquee character. She can be a major bad in a movie or show but you can't base an entire show on her. She just isn't. I have a feeling this will do more damage to the character and poor Kathryn Hahn who is otherwise freaking awesome. This is one of those shows that they should have just let go.

Seems like they are just riding a meme now.

I too am concerned about damaging the character. It shouldn't be that way.  I'm able to separate what goes on in the comics from a tv or movie but sadly, too many people- including those that are comic book enthusiasts- can't seem to do that. In the words of Ripley, " IQs have just dropped sharply while I was away".   Inhumans, Fantastic Four, Eternals, Shang-Chi etc. didn't do well in the cinema, so now those properties are seen as "lesser than". And it bleeds all over, including into action figure production. At any rate, good luck to the Agatha show. Maybe they'll be able to make it a hit.
