Jonathan Majors Dropped by Disney and Marvel After Guilty Verdict

Actor Jonathan Majors according to reports has been found guilty today on one count of reckless assault in the 3rd degree and a non-criminal charge of harassment as a violation. This is from a recent New York criminal case in regards to a domestic dispute between him and a former girlfriend that was filed earlier this year. He was found not guilty on another assault charge and one count of aggravated harassment. His sentencing is currently scheduled to take place on February 6.

What this means for the actors future in the MCU remains unknown at this time, but likely his character of Kang will be recast or replaced with another MCU Villain.

While I want Doom in a MCU movie, they should NOT make him the fallback guy for Kang.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel now faces the decision of recasting the role or reworking its plans to focus on a new villain, with indications that the latter option is already being explored. In November, Marvel hired Loki creator Michael Waldron to work on a new draft for what was previously known as Kang Dynasty, now referred to as Avengers 5, according to sources.

It's interesting how they will go, there's binary of either recast Kang or go with someone new like Doom or Beyonder, but there's also middle ground solution where they can still use (recast) Kang for the 5th Avengers movie and do a not so shocking twist with Doom (or whoever they pick) taking over in the middle of the movie.

I don’t care if they recast Kang or rewrite it with Doom - I just want it to be great. When Marvel started they were hungry and it showed in their content. I think they got so used to being wildly successful that they got cocky and started thinking they couldn’t lose. Eternals wasn’t bad, but it was a departure from what audiences expected, and they needed something pretty significant to keep audiences engaged following Endgame. Black Widow was more of the same. No Way Home hit the mark (and brilliantly leveraged nostalgia), several of the Disney+ shows did as well, and Wakanda was pretty solid (and impressive given what they had to work around), but Multiverse of Madness was dreadful, Love and Thunder was wildly disappointing (especially after the triumph of Ragnarok), Quantumania was forgettable, and Marvels was just fine. They need to get hungry again and put out something of uncompromising quality, regardless of whether they recast or pivot (or do a combo). I want to be excited about Marvel films again and prove those who say the genre is dead wrong.

So apparently he put in his contract that he would.play all variants of Kang. I would assume his firing would negate that, but maybe not. I don't get why there is so much worry over recasting anyone for any reason. I just think of it like a new writer and artist coming on a comic. I don't think there should be so much stress over it. It didn't effect James Bond, and like Tarantino says "x" isn't the star the superhero/villain is. What sucks is that I liked his preformance. But their treatment of the character wasn't really screaming big bad. He just kept getting killed. Of course we need Doom sooner than later, but they shouldn't just drop Kang as a major villain. Recast.

I should say this as I have seen the discourse on social media about this. Please do not make this thread about whether you think he is guilty or not, or turn it into a political argument.  

We have enough of that BS over on Social media so please Just keep it to his now gone role in the MCU.

Damn. Bummer. But like I keep saying he's not irreplaceable. Variants don't have to look exactly alike either. The character is still a little lame to me but he's more or less essential to how the current storyline is unfolding.

Please don't try to sub in Dr. Doom!! NO. That'll go over about as well as trying to sub the Inhumans for mutants. Look how well THAT went over. I don't see why they can't just recast Kang. If he's dropped now, then whatever contract/agreement he had should be null and void. This could give them a chance to really think about what kind of story they're doing. Also, future movies (see what I did there) don't have to explain why the new actor looks different. Just take the time (HA) and do the story.

We are dealing with time travel & manipulating reality.

Who is to say the next Kang looks completely different?

Heck who besides the people at the TVA knows how he looks like? Ant-man & crew obviously do. Maybe Scott Lang can be surprised/confused at a different guy saying he is Kang.

Loki was successful in thwarting that Kang and could likely have changed history/reality.

So with The Kang Dynasty being reverted to Avengers 5 for the time being. Are they thinking of dropping Kang and replacing him with someone else.

🤔It will be interesting indeed to see where they go with this, recast? or new villain?, seems like they had a lot in place with the Kang character, so might be quite a lot to just scrap so many stories, but we never know, I think a recast could be fine, since it's Kang and could really look like anyone with the Variant thing, Also not like we have not recast in the MCU before. Anyways guess we will wait and see now.

I would just like to see a proper ending to what they started here. Nothing says Phase 4 was nothing but a complete waste of time like abandoning the story now. Personally I think Phase 4 is the lowest point in MCU history but I was hoping the Kang Dynasty would at least give it a good send off. But actually with Loki usurping Kang as the new He Who Remains really he can just disappear and we can all forget this abysmal part of the MCU ever existed. Just reset the whole thing and this time with both the FF and X-Men available for the mix.

Did anyone blink when they recast Terrence Howard's Rhodey for Don Cheadle??
They didn't even have a in-story for doing it, they just did it.   they could replace Majors with darn near anyone.
Heh, if they go with my suggestion above they can REALLY mess with the audience's heads--recast Terrence Howard as Kang, and then say HIS RHODEY WAS KANG ALL ALONG!!!!
