I'm not jumping on the everything is woke bandwagon. In fact I am errked I am even remotely sounding like I am taking that POV,  but I do feel this was a bad casting decision. I get Shalla-Bal is from the comics but it's not the Silver Surfer most people know or what most fans want to see. To me it's kinda like if they used the Jane Foster Thor in the first Thor movie. Even if they eventually brought in the original Thor it would not have gone over well. Especially with the recent performances of MCU movies which has not been good, I think this was just a bad decision. I'm not gonna make any kind of final judgements or proclamations the movie will suck until I see more, but again my initial feeling is this was not a good decision.

It just depends on how the movie is done/written. I heard some rumors that the movie may take place in an alternate reality so she could be the Surfer in that reality.

I also remember when that last James Bond movie was being made and everyone was up in arms hearing they were replacing Bond with a black female. When the movie came out it wasn't anything like the early rumors made it sound like.

Can we please stop with these manufactured celebration days?
May the 4th (as annoying as it sounds) at least makes sense.
I have never seen "4-4" used in relation to the F4.

Like, movie news aside, THIS is the sort of filler that really degrades the IP.
"4-4" isn't a thing and its on the fanbase to make certain it stays that way.
Otherwise we deserve whatever fluff comes from this.

What was wrong with Lawrence Fishburne?

He's a talented actor. I thought that movie was a turkey though and his character was a real snooze-fest. I did not think that was a good representation of the Silver Surfer, a character I've enjoyed for a long time. I thought that movie dropped the ball on Surfer and his story.

I myself am going to play the wait and see Game, especially since the rumour is that the F4 in this movie are from a alternate dimension/timeline, and that they eventually wind up in the Main MCU somehow.  While I too would of like to see Norrin Radd version instead of the Shalla-Bal version, for now, I am open to see what will happen, since this again is supposely not the main MCU.

Though I can see how some people maybe fed up with the recent Marvel Movies replacing a male character with a female character, such as Ghost in Ant-man And The Wasp, Taskmaster in Black Widow, Shuri becoming Black Panther in the 2nd Black Panther movie, and Ironheart might end up as the New "Iron Man" like character(Especially since she is also a child genius).  Some would argue that in the 2nd Dr. Strange Movie is more like a Wanda movie, since the movie seems to put a focus on her(I haven't seen it yet, just basing on what I've heard people mention about Dr. Strange 2).

Though I will say for Ghost's case, you can argue that since the 1st 2 Ant-man movies have a Father/Daughter theme to them, having Bill Foster eventually become Ghost's father figure kind of makes sense for fitting in with the Father/Daughter theme of the movie.  I've not seen the 3rd Ant-man movie yet, so I don't know if there is still a strong Father/Daughter theme to that movie or not(I'm sure it's there, but when comparing to the 1st 2 movies, I don't know how strong it is).

I didn't add in Jane Foster Thor to the list because at the very least, there were essentially 2 Thor characters in Love And Thunder, instead of Jane replacing regular Thor.  It also becomes a mute point in that eventually, both in the comics and the MCU, Jane Foster dies of cancer,  so her term as Thor is short.  And at the very least, it may help viewers get use to the idea of having other characters in the MCU to wield the Power Of Thor somehow at the same time as regular Thor, such as Bata Ray Bill, or Thunderstrike.

I was more wondering about the physical acting or the voice acting. If I remember right Lawrence Fishburne only did the voice and it was another person that did the physical motion capture part.

I was unaware of the fact that Morpheus had anything to do with the FF at all until now. I saw the Rise of the Silver Surfer in the theater when I was a teenager and didn't realize that was his voice. The more ya know. 🤷‍♂️

Yup, did the voice and I think it was Doug Jones? that did the motion capture. I believe it's the same guy that did Abe Sapien in Hellboy.

I understand how you feel, because too often people will take a comment and stretch it into something totally afield of what you actually said. Having said that, Yes, this seems to be a bad casting decision. Its as disrespectful to the Silver Surfer as what they did to Namor, the one True Sub-Mariner (arguably Marvel's FIRST superhero). And they reduced him to a pale (but thankfully forgettable) imitation of what he should have been. I would add that a majority of comic fans thought the Eternals was a bad decision all around too. Turns out, we were right.

Julia Garner is a fine actress. She's also a 5'4", 112lbs or so scrawny girl who hardly invokes what comes to mind when we envision the Silver Surfer. Never mind Norrin Radd, she doesn't even make a good Shalla-Bal (and that's not an insult, its just facts. If Ozark ever wants to do a Ruth story, I'm there). I'm glad this looks like its gonna be an alt verse because this choice goes down better. But let's be honest...why do we go to these movies?  Its to see our wonderful heroes brought to life on screen. Not kinda-sorta-alt versions.

While I agree that an alternate universe is the obvious answer given the current theme of whatever phase we're up to, but personally I think a Buck Rogers idea would be more interesting. The MCU has established that interesting superhero things we haven't seen have been happening on the past. The Henry Pam Ant-Man flashback was pretty cool. I'd like if the FF were set in that era and then somehow got a one-way trip to the future. Going back would be bad for whatever contrived reason. If I were betting. easy money on the alternate universe.

I wouldn't be against it being in an alternate universe if by taking it back to the sixties it means we can start over in that universe where we could possibly get a universe where the FF and Avengers and the X-Men and all the city based street level heros can all exist together like th X-Men '97 cartoon.

Agree, starting over in an alt verse is really the way I see this F4 existing. I thought when they showed the Human Torch back in Captain America, they'd have him and the Sub-Mariner appear, maybe while Cap was overseas. Then at some time the three would form up, etc. until Cap's disappearance. Regardless I was shocked they went through all that trouble, yet never showcased Torch afterwards. But if they had, that could have laid the groundwork for Namor, Atlantis, and eventually the Fantastic Four. As it is, this can't fit in the MCU proper but an alt verse....it could work.
