So there's a FOMO psychology being exploited in this???  Well, that's clever in a twisted way, but it's also a great way to build resentment towards a brand.
Haslab is hard enough for some collectors to contend with and now there's going to be a whole other tier in play.   Not belly-achin', just lamenting what I see coming.

Any kind of MTO is gonna be like that, its the whole basis of the model. It helps reduce risk. No toy company is going to knowingly move forward on something they know they don't have enough orders for to prevent taking a loss.

Not according to Hasbro. And Dan Yun was very clear to me on this point. If you miss the pre-order window then you won't get another shot at it unless you go to the secondary market just like with a Haslab.

Then what happens to all the extra units? I know some would be used for replacements if anyone receives a defective unit.

  • 1 month later...

Hasbro during San Diego Comic Con announced that they would not be offering a Marvel Legends Haslab this year, but instead they would be experimenting with a new Made-To-Pre-Order model with their upcoming Marvel Legends Dragon Man figure which was said to stand 10.5" tall and have a wingspan of 17.5" wide.

Shown below are images of the prototype they had on display at San Diego Comic Con.

According to Hasbro at SDCC, the two biggest differences between this new made-to-pre-order model and the traditional Haslab campaign would be that there will no longer be a publicly stated minimum order number and there will be no additional stretch goals.

Dragon Man like we have seen with previous Haslabs would have a stated pre-order window time frame. In other words pre-orders for the figure would be opened for a certain period of time and if you didn't pre-order the figure during that time then you would not be able to pre-order or buy the figure at a later time unless you went to the secondary market. The figure wouldn't move into production until the pre-order campaign closed which means we probably wouldn't see the figure ship out to people until some time in 2025.

Hasbro also stated during SDCC that Dragon Man would only be available on HasbroPulse.

Things we still don't know about Dragon Man is what the price will be, though I continue to speculate it will ended up costing around $100. We also don't know when the pre-orders for this figure will begin or how long the pre-order window will be open before. I suspect all those details will be revealed this coming Friday (9/13) during the Hasbro Pulse-Con event. I also suspect that is when the pre-orders for this figure will open up on the Pulse website.

The reason why I suspect this week is the week Hasbro will open the pre-order for Dragon Man is because this is around the time they would have launched their Marvel Legends Haslab if they were still doing one, and also Dan Yun posted a random image of Dragon Man on his social media account this weekend which I take to be a teaser that the pre-order is coming soon.

Of course when more details become available, we will be sure to let you know and we will also have full coverage of everything Marvel related revealed during Pulse-Con this coming Friday.

This figure is wonderful, this is a must have for me, I'm sure it's going to have a fairly steep price tag for us Canadians, but I'm willing to put my money on this one, Dragon Man is one of those characters I can't pass up, I'm hoping this doesn't exceed 200 for us Canadians. I do hope this is reasonably priced.

Jay is usually right about these types of things, but I'm kind of expecting they hold this back for a few more weeks and that it will be an October thing. I am expecting a price of $99.99, but if I was a betting man I'd take the over before I took the under.

With the Kang with Timechair and Secret Wars waves pre-orders going up, I just think that they'll likely hold back Dragon Man until next month. Kang is likely going to be $60 and I've seen rumors of the Secret Wars wave being $34.99 each, so that would already be nearly $300 in orders this week for many folks. Hasbro generally tries to spread out stuff more than that.

I feel like we usually get a Spider-Man wave hitting right around Christmas (or last year it was shortly after), so it would be about time to show that and they've already teased Spider-Boy, among others. I think that it was October last year when they showed that though because I remember Hallow's Eve being shown right before Halloween -- so that probably will be next month also.

We could see the long rumored Constrictor/Crossbones 2-pack.

Hope we get a big update on Giant Man Friday. I am itchin to get him!

Really hope the rumors of 35 bucks for the Secret Wars figures is wrong. Don't really care about the stupid shields, other than the nostalgia factor. Hope they come with some serious extra power fx and extra heads ect. if it's true.

Definitely in for Dragon Man! Instant order. Do hope he doesn't go over 100 though. (as we've been debating here)

Agree, $35.00 is excessive and just another testrun these guys are doing to make that (or something close to it) the standard price for all their figures going forward. No thanks.

Dragon Man looks great but again, that doesn't say $100.00 great to me. Now if he comes with a 6" figure, thats a different issue. Of course if they did that it would probably be something on the pizza spidey or kate bishop buck.

Yup well priced pretty much How I would have presumed it be, 84.99 USD, seems about right, hey at least it's technically less then 100 for you Americans, With taxes and stuff Dragon Man came out to like 96 USD, so that means he's like 130 here in Canada, still less then 200, I'm fine with paying that for a Dragon Man, the older figure on ebay is more then that. It seems fairly fine to me to have such a big and MTO figure at that price, like I've mentioned before, things like Hulkbuster and Odin are like 85 bucks here, with taxes and if you added shipping it's roughly almost 100 dollars for those figures.

So just remember how much these figures cost in Canada, and we rarely get sales like you americans, so just think about that if you are upset about prices. It could be worse for you.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the price on Dragon Man. I'm not as excited about this because I already have the old Fantastic Four Classics version that will now crater in value. However I'll definitely be buying this, but I will probably wait and enter my order at the same time as Kang and anyone I decide to buy from the Secret Wars wave. I don't have the Pulse premium membership, so anything to avoid shipping costs!
