Would You Pay $500 For A New Marvel Legends Haslab Fin Fang Foom?!?

In a recent interview with Jacobs Toys at this past weekends MCM London convention, Hasbro's Dwight Stall was talking about possible future Marvel Legends Haslab projects and the pros and con between the traditional Haslab model and the more recent made-to-pre-order model they did with Dragon Man and the current X-Men98 Sentinel.

Dwight in the interview suggested if they did something like a new Marvel Legends Fin Fang Foom figure, due to size and cost the Haslab model would probably make more sense for them. He also throughout a price range of $400-$500 however he also said he had not researched pricing in detail for such a figure so he was just throwing those numbers out randomly.

So the had me wondering, if Hasbro did a Marvel Legends Fin Fang Foom that was bigger than the previous Build-A-Figure on they did year ago, would fan be willing to spend $400-$500 for it. So let us know your thoughts on how much you would be willing to pay for such a figure in the COMMENTS SECTION below.

Personally, no I wouldn't.  I'd pay something along the lines of Dragon Man and Giantman but I'm not a big enough fan of that character to dish out that kind of money.

An emphatic NO.
$400-$500 USD would exchange out to $600-$750 CDN which is about the current lower-asking price for complete BAFs of the original Foom figure on Ebay. Even if they make a bigger figure, the original is still a decent enough sculpt.

This is a sickness......really akin to a fleecing of collectors---the "new-shiny"-syndrome, mixed with FOMO. Everything is a addiction-test now, to see how much they can milk us for.

They could re-issue the original BAF, as a complete figure, with slightly different paint, for about $100 and it would sell out.  Heck, they could pair it with a comic-accurate Mandarin in a $150 2-pack and it would still sell-out.  But a new item for $500????  No way. <spits>

I would love an updated Fin Fang Foom, but for $500 it better be bigger and more articulated than the original. If it’s not going to be as big as Galactus with light up eyes and fire effects, then don’t bother. I seriously doubt there are enough collectors like me to fund it though.

400-500 for FFF? I'd have to say, it depends. Not for anything like what we got as a baf. He'd have to be much much bigger. But at what point are we talking too big. I do have to store and shelf him. Plus, is Dwight counting electronics? Is there a light up flame or some such? I would vote no on electronics at all. I would want him as big as Galactus, then with the tail that is a lot. I'd rather 300, but lower 400s I would probably bite.

No, under no circumstances would I ever think of paying $400-500 for Fin Fang Foom. I get that hasbo wants to make a profit, but given their track record as regards accuracy and quality, I'd hard pass. Considering the problems with knee joints in their other haslab and right now, with Giant Man's eyes, I wouldn't have much confidence they would do it correctly. Also, and this has nothing to do with hasblo- FFF isn't a character that appeals that much to me that I would want to spend $ on him.  Now, if they were talking Rock Python....now THAT's a superstar.

My suggestion, that no one asked for, is that they cool it with projects like this and focus more on quality control and customer satisfaction on the 6" line. Lets get some standardization on figure size and accurate appearance, finish off these teams, and spatter in some characters that have never been done before.

I'm not saying that I absolutely wouldn't buy Foom at that price, but honestly I think that I'd rather stick with the BAF that I already have rather that fork out that much dough. There are other projects that I'd rather they did than that expensive of a Foom. With that being said, that's also how I felt about Galactus and Giant Man also and I still bought them.

I wouldn't pay that much money for FFF.

Fafnir however?...YES! Jormungandr....Oh man, that would be a tough one, but even so, those would be the dragons I'd pony up for.

Devil Dinosaur would be nuts too, I'd be all over that!

I would invite people to bust out the old baf and really look at it. He's barely twice as tall as IM. It just doesn't look right. His wings are comically little and his tail is "poseable" sorta.  His face isn't wide enough, and his neck should move too. A repaint won't cut it. I should really just get on ebay and sell mine.

Galactus was 450. I would expect it to be the same or a little more. Not saying pay it, or be happy about it. But just saying it would be about the same as him. How would it come in that much cheaper? Again drop the electronics, that I use a few times and then take out the batteries, to save a surprisingly large amount and keep it to the higher 300s and I'd be in.

I really can't see myself ever spending $500 on any toy period, and don't really care enough about FFF to go for that. Now, if they did Devil Dinosaur with Moon Girl for the made-to-order program at a reasonable price, I'd be all over that.

I love Foom, but I don't think I'd spend 400-500 or wait like 600 plus shipping CDN on a figure even if it was massive, I didn't buy any HasLab, just don't feel the need to spend that, but if Foom was more priced at like 150, or 200 even I would probably say yes.

There are very few things I'd want to spend $500 on. I don't collect much comic outside of Spider-Man but if I was interested in Foom he'd have to be enormous for me to want to spend $500 and then he'd be bigger than Galactus which I wouldn't want either. The only reason I bit the bullet on the $400 Galactus is because I consider him to be a centerpiece of a collection and I wouldn't want anyone bigger than him.

Here is an idea for a haslab give us a list of 10 or so figures people have been asking for that require unique tooling. Let us vote on them and the top 5 get made as a haslab box set.

I like this idea, I also propose they do some big guys with ultimate articulation like a hulk that moves like their old 12-inch line but also with an implemented butterfly joint to be able to hit the thunderclap. Idk if this is just me but I would pay a premium for something like that (maybe like ~50-60).

You're not wrong. I just measured and he's around 15" tall and looks pretty skinny. This was also done very early in Hasbro's run. However, I'm still happy enough with that version that I wouldn't want them to make a $400-$500 version. However, if you'd asked me a few years ago I would have said the same thing about making a more expensive Galactus or Giant-Man and that I'd rather just stick with the Toy Biz BAFs, but I still bought both (and 4 HasLab Sentinels!). I'd probably end up doing the same with Foom. There are other projects that I'd much rather see them tackle, though.

Can't say I'd pay 5 bones for it, or really even $400.  Galactus warranted the price for me (heck, I bought multiples) because of all the extra figures and such it came with, plus he's freaking Galactus.  Fin Fang Foom just isn't as much of a heavy hitter (in terms of character importance) from me.  I've gone for every Legends Haslab (except the Engine of Vengeance), but I wouldn't go anywhere near that high for Fin.  He'd be cool to have, but I don't love him enough for that price.

Same here.  Give me some Celestials, I say.

Re: Fin Fang Foom

Immediate gut reaction? Heck yes I'd pay $400 for an FFF Haslab. But reality settles in I realize that is a loaded question. And my real answer would come with a few conditions.

First off I'd expect that it would have to be larger than even Galactus. And given that his neck is long and thin I think they could give it the impression of looking bigger and taller without requiring too much product. Secondly at $400 it would need at least one guaranteed figure and a few head swap options. And last they need to make sure the neck and tail have really great articulation. And I'm telling you with fair certainty that most of us would be willing to sacrifice a few knuckles of finger articulation in exchange. After that they can do all the tiers they think they could get away with.

I really can't imagine what would have to come about to make a $500 go over well but I would say it would have to be some guaranteed bonuses once it fully funds. I think even the possibility of one tier getting left on the floor like the Skrull Giant Man head swap might be poison. That little gouge felt none too good for a lot of people who had faith in the program and jumped on early and hung in till the end. Doing reveals as the campaign progresses to garner more backing is great but once you dangle that carrot you have to make sure we get it if it funds. Besides is a few redecos really going to cost them all that much in the grand scheme of a $500 dollar product?

I think they've learned a little from every Haslab to this point and I think they've learned enough to make it work. I think they know enough now to make this a success.
