Ryan Ting who is known as one of the members of Hasbro's Marvel Legends brand team with the official job title of Director - Global Brand Development & Marketing - Action Brands: Disney at Hasbro announced on his social media account today that he was let go from the company today. He wrote the following:

Quote

“Then again, that’s the hero gig. Right? Part of the journey is the end. What am I even tripping for, everything’s going to work out exactly the way it’s supposed to. I love you 3,000.” - Tony Stark

After a legendary run (June 2013 - June 2025), my time at Hasbro abruptly and unceremoniously came to an end after my “position was eliminated.” These are challenging times for the world at large, especially the toy industry.

While sorting through a range of emotions, I’m choosing to focus on the positives. Few people are fortunate enough to live out their dream, and that’s what I did for almost 10 years on Marvel Legends alongside a talented and passionate team who I’m proud to call my friends.

During my 12 year career at Hasbro, I’ve grown up professionally and personally. We have two amazing kids now and are teaching them the importance of hard work and effort. Every day you look in the mirror and deep down, you know if you’re truly giving it your all, despite what you tell others or what they say about you. The Hasbro chapter of my life has concluded, and I have no regrets. I gave it my best, my everything, my blood, sweat & tears (use box cutters and hot glue guns with caution 🤕). In turn, I was rewarded with many unbelievable experiences and unforgettable memories.

I will still be going to SDCC this year as a panelist with some of my favorite people. The best part about SDCC is connecting with friends and experiencing excitement & joy together as a collector community. I look forward to seeing you there and talking about what I have and will always love - wherever life takes me - TOYS.

Last week it was reported that Hasbro had initiated more layoffs of about 150 people worldwide due to recent tariffs. It's never fun to hear about when someone looses their job at a company and we wish Ryan the best in whatever future endeavors await him.

"...abruptly and unceremoniously came to an end after my position was eliminated".....that's a hard blow.

Wow. This was unexpected. Many well wishes for Ryan. Maybe Mattel will take advantage and pick him up for the relaunch of their DC line.

But knowing Hasbro they probably had him sign a non-compete.

Dwight's deadpan isn't gonna work without Ryan's child-like excitement. Those panels really aren't gonna be the same. Man the bad hits just keep comin this year.

That's the first thing I thought too, with such prominent role and experience in brand making other companies ought to want to hire him.

Last year, we lost John Warden, and now we lose Ryan Ting. This is a sad time for Hasbro collectors. Best wishes to Ryan and his future endeavors.

Yeah, this sucks. No one can question this guy's passion and while I'm sure that he was forced to tow the company line, especially regarding unpopular business decisions by Hasbro, he always remained a professional. Not gonna be the same. Good Luck Ryan!

Whoa, sad to hear that. I wish Ryan all the best. I’ll echo the hope that Mattel can get him for DC.

I hope Dan and Dwight’s positions are safe. The three of them did some great work together.

Sorry to say....but not something you should count on. These companies put on a friendly, "community" face with these public relations panel teams with the fans (and nothing wrong with that), but the companies aren't your (collectors') friends, and as employees who get let go like this are finding out, not their  friends either. That kind of thing just doesn't factor, in 99% of a companies decisions towards the customer or, really, the employees.

Which is why brand loyalty is folly. Because trust me, its not a two-way street for them. When I hear rumours that  this or that company might be losing the Marvel/DC/Star Wars/Star Trek etc. IP, it doesn't bother me; I don't work for them and even if I did, I'd pause a bit before singing their praises, as I know they'd can me in a heartbeat, if they thought they could save a few sheckles, while giving themselves big bonuses.  Just something to think about.

I hate the idea of anybody losing their income, health insurance etc. in this current job environment. Hopefully Mr. Ting and other hasbo employees will land somewhere better.

I'm sorry... But what??? What does any of that have to do with Ryan maybe ending up at another company  using his skills he gained at Hasbro on a similar line like DC?

As for brand loyalty, again... What? As a consumer IDK to many people who go around collecting Marvel Legends because they think Hasbro is their friend. They collect Marvel Legends because they like the product the company puts out and the loyalty is built on that. I wouldn't want to see another company get that license cause overall I don't think their is another company out their that could do as good a job as Hasbro has done, but I certainly don't think Hasbro is my friend nor do I buy something out of some blind loyalty to that company. If another company one day takes over the license and they surprise me and put out a good product then I would be just as willing to buy it as I do a Hasbro Marvel Legends.

As an employee, if your going to be successful in life you go into whatever job it is trying to do the best you can while growing your skills, your network and in some cases helping create something that will benefit or help others. You take pride in the job you do. No job is guaranteed and nothing lasts forever, but Ryan from everything I've seen helped the brand grow an in doing so made a name for himself in the industry he works in. I'm sure Ryan made friends and contacts along they way, some of which he may be able to call upon in his search for a new job. While Ryan may have enjoyed the work he did and the friends he made along the way, I doubt he was shocked on day something like this might happen and hopefully he planned accordingly.

I've covered this industry for over 25 years and in that time I've seen many marketing people come and go at all these companies including those on Marvel Legends. Truth is Ryan lasted longer than most. I think both Ryan and Dan while not perfect have done a great job keeping consumers informed as much as possible about the line over the years, more so than most people in those kinds of positions do, so I do think Ryan will be missed, but at the same time I also think Marvel Legends will continue on.

This is disgusting. Whilst the high ups give themselves a raise, it's the lower end that gets shafted. This CEO is a real piece of work.

25 years? Goddammit Jay you're making me feel old (I've been following this site and TNI since the early days)

25 years, JayC??  I can't even place when I first joined TNI, but I remember the horrible spats I had with Viper-Hunter ( and I'm so very glad that got patched up).
Here's to the years ahead and enjoying the hobby for everyone.

They should take a lesson from Satoru Iwata

I hear you. But, he did say "my time at Hasbro abruptly and unceremoniously came to an end after my position was eliminated"....so it does seem he was at least somewhat shocked.

It was announced publicly last week Hasbro was letting go around 150 people in a new round of lay offs with Tariffs and their impact being cited as the primary reason. The entire toy industry has been taking a fair amount of hits this year because of all that. Now I have no idea about the specific circumstances behind Ryan's situation other than what he posted yesterday publicly. He may have thought his job was more secure than it was, IDK but if I was working at any toy company right now, I would be planning for the worst and hope for the best. That's just the reality of where we are today.

As someone who runs their own business in an environment such as this and also worked for other companies and have been laid off before I know how much it sucks on both ends. When you work for a publicly traded corporation like Hasbro which has benefits but also disadvantages like most likely being just a name and job title on some bean counters list who when they feel they have to make cuts, often employees are the first thing to get cut. But at the same time Ryan likely gained skills and experience he wouldnt have been able to get as easily elsewhere that will hopefully benefit him on whatever future endeavors he embarks on.

The bean counters phrase reminds me of what Road Dogg at WWE called the folks who laid off R-Truth.

I'm still shocked that Ryan is gone and feel bad and sad for him but I'm sure he'll land on his feet. I'm not fully surprised as there seems to be a pattern in corporate america with this.
