Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, revealed at a press roundtable that Jake Schreier is the leading candidate to direct the X-Men reboot. The X-Men characters became part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Disney and 20th Century Fox merged in 2019. Schreier made his first appearance in the MCU earlier this year with the film Thunderbolts.

“It’s official, Jake Schreier is doing X-Men for us, and we’re very, very lucky,” Feige said. “And we’re very, very lucky to have him and very excited to have him. And so we’re beginning. It’s all starting now. The script’s underway.” The producer confirmed that the positive response to Thunderbolts* played a role in Schreier getting this gig, but his faith in the director extends beyond that.

“Jake’s an incredibly smart guy, and he’s an incredibly talented filmmaker,” he said. “We had a great experience with him on Thunderbolts*. And if you saw that movie, what he did with those character interactions, he also has his pulse on, shall we say, a younger demographic. He’s younger than me for sure, but he’s tapped into that in a way that I think was important for Thunderbolts*, much more important for X-Men. Because X-Men, as it was in the comics, will be a very youth-oriented, focused and cast movie.”

Now if he can find some talent like Pugh, Russel and Harbour to carry the rest of the cast he might have another winner. The fact that Julia's performance didn't drag that movie into the pits of the abyss was almost a miracle on it's own. Sorry to break it to you Elaine, but you ain't no Amanda Waller.

I see a lot of complaining on other comments sections. Don't think it's warranted.

I enjoyed Thunderbolts and am hopeful that the same director/production team can do good things with an X-Men relaunch. I'm hoping for a 616 style First Class with the original team, but I'll take what I can get.

I hope for that as well, but we'll be lucky to get a lineup that actually ever existed in a single comic book🤣

I've seen enough of these movies to fully realize the trends and mindsets at work:  The creators behind the films--the producers, directors, production people often want to honour the stuff, because they are frequently fans too.  BUT, they also want to OWN some of this too, because "tweaks", changes and "new interpretations and adaptations then belong to them. ( "Owning" not just the sense of trademarks and such for the studios, but also in the "claims-to-fame" for the creatives that work on the thing).

And the thinking is that if all they do is just further iconify the Icons themselves, they are not really doing much more than giving someone else the glory, so they meddle with it. That's why you always have these  cherry-picked "dream-team" rosters that don't jibe with the comics.  I hate that because the only reason I connect with the movies is because I want to see the comics come to life.
And instead, every single one of them is just a big tease. ;(

How about they tackle the original 5 X-Men BEFORE bringing in Wolverine? The only film to feature the original 5 is X-Men: The Last Stand. And NONE OF THEM WERE IN THE SAME SCENE.

It would be nice, but the general public and Marvel will want Wolverine to be there. Look what happened with the X-Men: First X-Men comic

Honestly sure, I have faith in this guy, I loved Thunderbolts, Yes he's more of a unknown, just in terms of his body of work, he's literally directed 3 movies, but that should make him hungry and eager to prove himself, I mean if you fumble at movie 4 and it's X-Men, Bad look.

As always I'll wait and see. Cool news though, nice to know X-Men are on the move.
