Kenneth Branagh, who directed 2011’s Thor, recently stated that he would love to direct the character in a darker sequel. “I definitely was ready for another, for sure, but not right then,” he told Business Insider. “Marvel shoots are intense. Marvel postproduction is more intense — wildly exciting but super intense. I definitely needed to smell the roses. Kevin Feige was very understanding, and so was the cast. I needed a break.”

Branagh added, “Part of me would love to finish my relationship with that character. I’d always wanted to do more and indeed had a couple of ideas, more in the territory of James Mangold’s brilliant Logan. I would love to see Chris Hemsworth and the others have their own individual final story that takes Thor into a glorious twilight.”

“They are so far deep into the future of the Marvel Universe that I’m sure whatever plans they have for it are already kind of set,” said Branagh. “All I know is there’s something beautiful to be had out of arriving at a conclusion for that arc of those stories with those characters and those actors.”

Following Branagh’s MCU exit, Thor: The Dark World was directed by Alan Taylor. Taika Waititi then directed Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Looking back, the Branagh Thor is arguably the best movie. At the time I felt it was lackluster and missing some jeopardy. Could have used more world building imo. But at least it didn't try to make it a bad Sci Fi movie like Dark World or a joke like the Waititi movies. There was a lot good about Ragnarok, but the more I see it the more annoying I find the issues that bothered me originally. I still like the Hulk stuff, the Kirby armored dudes on Sakaar, and an actual Dragon in what should be a Fantasy movie. But overall it's meh.

So yes Sir. I would love a good Thor movie with a highly Shakespearean script. I'd love to actually see Amora and Baldur. See the Warriors Three actually Do something. Still shocked we get all the World of Wakanda stuff, but have never gotten a Tales of Asgard cartoon or series.

I feel like the Thor movies were kind of a weird situation. The character sort of derailed after the first Avengers movie. The Dark World was never really a well received MCU movie. Then he sort of became the butt of a lot of the jokes from Ragnarok onward. He was basically made out to be an idiot in Infinity War, then became fat Thor in Endgame. And then we got the mess that was Love and Thunder which degraded the character even further, having little resemblance to who the character was introduced as in the first film. He kind of got the short end of the stick, as there was a lot that the character could have been but ultimately wasn't. The problem now is, if They suddenly transitioned Thor back to a more serious character, I think it would disappoint a lot of fans who prefer the silly incarnation of him. It is kind of a no win situation- there would be disappointed fans on either side of the aisle.

Interestingly enough, Loki seemed to have faired better as far a character growth and development is concerned.

I agree with everything.  Really didn't like the shift to humour, after the success of Guardians.

And the shift back to serious Thor would be jarring, but that's the beauty of a King Thor movie.  He can be old and butter and headed and have gravitas and just be more mature.

As much as I would love something like this, obviously if done right, I don't think it's possible and wouldn't make any sense, they went way to far into the Dumb/Silly Thor that he really would have little reason to all of s sudden be anything else, I mean I guess some really dark events could alter his mood, but he's "dumb" why would he get smarter, as much as I apperciated the whole arc with thor, because it had some weight, it felt nothing like the thor we love from the comics, Honestly shouldn't have happened, but it was the whole Guardians effect. I think also just after what was the horrific I don't want to think about it Love & Blunder, I just don't want another Thor movie, that thing hurt my soul.

Thor just wasn't handled right, I honestly think the first movie is good enough now, but when it came out I wasn't that impressed, the second film at first seemed okay, now I just can't watch it, the 3rd movie is fun, but it's not really Thor, and there wasn't another Thor solo movie after that...Sorry that;s been stricken from the record, my head cannon said that was a dream Korg had.

For sure agree about that weird time anomaly that I spent a few hours on a few yrs back. (Did give it a chance on D+, but couldn't get through it)

But I'll disagree that the character is unsalvageable. No reason is needed to just make a good movie. Just like they seem to not be mentioning the horrible season three ending of the mediocre Luke Cage show. (We'll see next season though) Just don't mention the bad parts and move on. No real explaination needed. Plus by the time a New Thor would be out it'll be like 5 yrs since the last one. But we'll see, this was just a thought by a guy with no concrete information or plans.

I mean obviously anything is salvageable, and going back to the mess that was the last movie, they could easily just do what I do, say it was a dream or an illusion cast, just make it have never actually happened.

but in all reality how much more Chris Hemsworth Thor do we think we have a this point, he's going to put a fork in it at some point, and I feel like that is soon.

Actually him getting recast would be a natural time to change gears.

I've always wanted an R rated Young Thor movie with violent Viking battles against Trolls and Giants, tons of Mead, and Thor wooing lots o ladies. That coulda had all the fun they were trying to inject into the franchise, while staying grounded and gritty while still giving big fans the Mythology and high fantasy people like myself wanted from the character. But alas, that is merely a pipe dream. But any change from The last movie would be welcome. Well see how the Russos do him this time around.

If we've learned anything from Hugh Jackman, Captain Picard, Ian McKellan, RDJ, and Chris Evans, it's that big stars will always take Marvel's money and never fade away. I expect Hemsworth is only about halfway through his run as Thor.
