This is great news. Back in the day I used to waitlist order from Hobbylink Japan for out of print kits. Sometimes I would be waiting a couple of years but I got several hard to find kits that way.

This is great, on paper, and as an Idea, but this actually isn't a guarantee, as much as I would hope for everyone who uses this option, How can BBTS 100% know they will ever get more stock, what if the item is a limited run, manufacturing issues, distribution issues? , it feels like this is false hope and going to lead to a ton of bummed out consumers, see many times over have stores offered items that are returning (more stock/new pre-order for more stock) and those items never arrived, hey anyone remember Spider-Man Noir, Mysterio and Beast? ...yeah. Anyone remember Artic Storm Shadow? Love Triangle 3 Pack? 

if this is only an option on items that are guaranteed to be re-stocked then perfect, but if it's just available for every item out of stock..like I;m sure there will be so long waits into forever.

BBTS is the victim of frequent cancellations.  This is a great feature because it keeps you from having to refresh their site constantly once something comes into stock or is about to come into stock.  On McFarlane stuff in particular, I know you can get it after it goes out of stock particularly on release day.  It isn't about the manufacturer making more.

No, it isn't a guarantee.  But it's a lot better than nothing.

No, it isn't a guarantee.  But it's a lot better than nothing.

It also probably prevents people from cancelling a sold-out item from their pile of loot and then immediately ordering it again, so that they can start the 90-day clock over again.

Very cool.. any idea if this options indicates that BBTS is anticipating that the item will be restocked? Or is it just a standard option moving forward?

I believe it indicates that BBTS knows it has a high cancellation rate and they are trying to be fair to people who are waiting for the item rather than reward people who just happened to refresh the page at the right moment.  I don't think it indicates a restock from the manufacturer so much as BBTS knowing some number will become available again from their own stock.

Also, as Satam pointed out, some people were gaming the ship within 90 days rule by cancelling and immediately reordering.
