OK, so, the body is that of a GI Joe 25th Anniversary Crimson Guard, which has amazing articulation and is a very sturdy figure. I sculpted the head from scratch using Apoxie-Sculpt. The coat was Gambit's. I went with a very textured, ridgy look for the head, as none of the pics have ever shown the mask to be smooth. He was carefully painted using my absolute favorite paint, Testor's Model Master Acryl, which produces an amazing store-bought finish that just won't scratch! Never content to simply throw a coat of paint on a figure and call it done, he was disassembled, and all joints were sanded to insure no wear. Thanks for your time and any suggestions you may have!

Oh, yeah, have to pimp the auction; that was some work!:

  2. Hello one and all. Thanks for stopping by.

So, I have heard the cries of the people...and the cries of the people say "more MU villains! Now!" I am here to oblige, and bring you what seems to be my most detailed 3.75" work yet...The nefarious Red Skull! You want villains? Well, nazi sympathizers bent on world domination are pretty much as bad as it gets.

(NOTE: The Red Skull's opinions are his own and bear no reflection of Sentinel Prime, Iacon Studios, you, the website, or anyone else that isn't an evil maniac)

I think we were all disappointed to learn that the official Marvel Universe Red Skull was going to be a repaint of an Indiana Jones figure, which is short for that scale, and had a T-crotch construction. I decided to correct the entire situation. As always the recipe follows the pics, my dear friends.

So, yes, he's a 5" scale movie 2 Hulk simply repainted. It's crazy how much difference a paint job can make! I saw him in the package and saw potential, but he was this drab military green with no shading, and one of his eyes were painted halfway down his cheek all melty-lookin'. They had three left on discount, and they all had melty-eye. So, I brought him home and gave him several coats of paint including 4 kinds of green, two of which I mixed myself.

  4. I think any child of the 80s like myself that grew up with Star Wars and GI Joe has a place in their heart for 3.75" figures. Naturally, I'm a fan of Marvel Universe/XMOW. That being said, I cannot deny it.

The MU Hulk is one of the worst incarnations of the character I've ever seen. I could sit and and complain, but we've ALL done that, and it would take up many pages.

Anyway, the first step being throwing that MU Hulk in my parts bin. The second step was finding a suitable replacement, which was actually very easy. I had 4 rules in making my Hulk custom.

    1. Size. 6" Marvel Legends Hulks are just TOO big. To me, personally, I like Hulk to be bigger than a person could ever be. He's been drawn so many sizes that there's not really one, standard size. We have the TV show really big human size all the way to artists that draw him as big as a house. In the first Hulk movie, I thought he was too big, but in the reboot second film, I thought they had it perfect. Big enough to pick up cars and punch tanks, but not as big as my apartment.

    2. He has to look somewhat primal and REALLY pissed off. I don't need him to look like any specific era of Hulk, or look like a caveman or have any particular haircut.

    3. Purple torn up pants.

4.Good articulation. I don't need 32 poa. Just enough to get him in any typical Hulk poses I want.

So...with those four rules in play...I bring you my version of MU HULK complete with themed sequential action shots...

Group...good size comparison. Not too big...not too small:

Y'know, there's so many costumes in the X Men world that it's hard to pick one at any given moment. Here I went with an all-purpose Jim-Lee style look, inspired from different images.

Ok...so, at one time Storm started out as the always versatile Ms. Marvel. Her head once belonged to Starfire from DCIC. The belt was at one time Deadpool's, with a magic jewel glued on.

Ok...the jewel isn't magic. But I did use two more to make the X symbols. The Jim-Lee-esque shoulder pads were Wolverines...and there's not too many people that get away with that.

I sculpted the wristbands. The ribbon came from "the store". Sheesh...I think that's it. Oh yeah...carefully painted using several varieties of acrylics, and all joints sanded so there's no wear. Store bought quality is always the goal.

Thank you as always for checking out my stuff!

Now it's time to get back in the studio and do work!

  6. Well, hello. Do make yourself at home.

Now then, I have to say I'm totally excited to bring you my newest custom commission piece for a new friend serving in Iraq. Ororo Munroe, better known as sometimes leader of the X-Men...Storm!

She is in the 3.75" Marvel Universe scale. As always the recipe follows the pics. I hope you like her!

I was going for an all around DMC 1 look. In 3 he's very young and thin, in 4 he's older and stocky, in 2...meh, 2 sucks. So, anyway, I wanted an all-purpose Dante.

Dante was made using a movie Sabretooth body, a Captain Boomerang head with sculpted hair, bottom arms from Gambit, a strap from a 6" Cable and a belt buckle from a 6" Green Goblin. The pistols are from GI Joe. The shirt is a brighter red to differentiate it and the rest is 3 shades of red.

    Thanks for your time!

  10. Hi there! Well pals, my next two big projects are almost complete. (3.75" Storm and 6" DCUC Knightfall Azbats) But, in the meantime, I'd like to share my newly completed commission, 3.75" Dante, from one of my all time favorite game series, Devil May Cry. I really love commission work because alot of the time it leads to really fun projects I may never have done otherwise.

Anyyyway, I'm still working on his sword, rebellion, but here's some pics with his pistols, Ebony and Ivory. Figure recipe follows pics.

  11. Now then...a couple of pics of my latest commission piece, 3.75" Marvel Universe Warpath in his modern X Force uniform.

He was made from various WWE buildnbrawl parts from the waist up, and the waist down belonged to Punisher, and although one hand is a fist that's great for punching mutant haters, I cut the handle of one of his knives so that it looks like he's holding it, since alot of the Warpath pics have him using both.

This is the first of the new X force which was a commission request from a new friend in Iraq.

  12. Sabretooth would be good base for Warpath but removing the collar is gonna be a #$#@#.

Wow that's awesome...that was my EXACT first thought.

I went with a mix of build n brawl parts. Once I did the mask you cant even tell.

  13. Hi there!

Please enjoy the pics of my new custom...Nathan Dayspring Summers...aka Cable! (breakdown after pics)

    The dynamic duo:

Dysfunction much? Good shot of scars and gold eye...

    Cable3.jpg

    Before and after:

    Cablebefore-after.jpg

Ok...so...Nate is made up of 6 different toys. The main body is Punisher v.2, the mech arm and holster were Maverick's, the obligatory 90's leg pouches are a utility belt from a Microman Batman, the chest piece is Deadpool's, one shoulder pad belonged to a 6" Iron Man, and the other shoulder pad was Cobra Overkill's. It was a labor of love! I painted all the leather brown, then drybrushed yellow. I cut the scars with an exacto, let red paint drip in, and then dry brushed the final face coats. The cyber eye is gold, and most stuff is epoxied on and good!

  14. Whoa...total 80s flashback! Looks great!

You should do some other characters from that movie!

Then again I could think of a ton of 80s movie characters for you to do!

    Neverending Story anyone?

    Krull?

    The Black Hole?

    Back to the future?

    Man....I could go on.....

  15. Hi everyone. I was just browsing through the thread and I wanted to say good work to everyone contributing. It's cool to get a jump on the customizing when a line is new; lots of characters to choose from! I don't even know where to START with the other X Men!!

Now....my top 3 in this thread go to (in no order)

    Nightcrawler

    Crow

    Rhino

    Runner up: Hulk head remold

I started a Myspace page for my customs. It's not an amazing site like rumblefrenzy or Jin, but it gets the job done, and I don't know enough HTML to make my own. I recommend eveyone make one, and we can get a community resource going.

Oh, btw, what are some good sites to post MU customs to? I usually work with Transformers so I just used this and TNI, but I'm looking to get the work out there. Thanks!
