    2008 Elections

I've some questions for ya, nevermore (or anyone else who wants to respond, of course): I've read the Qu'ran and the Bible myself, and, in a way you can indeed say they are the same God. However, if one doesn't accept the Qu'ran as truth, couldn't that person just as easily dismiss the same-God idea, ie, "Mohammad was just another false prophet who wants to connect his religion w/ Christianity?" Also, what if I wrote my own religious text, and in it claim that my god is the same as the Judeo-Christian one; should I expect Christians to accept my religion bc "we worship the same god"? What is your opinion on the portions of the Qu'ran that condone the killing of infidels and the abuse of women?

    2008 Elections

"I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don't vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. Now, some people like to twist that around. They say, "If you don't vote, you have no right to complain", but where's the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians, and they get into office and screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote -- who did not even leave the house on Election Day -- am in no way responsible for what these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess that you created." --George Carlin I quote this at least partially in jest, as I do vote; I just thought it was funny, and it does make a good amount of sense.

    Life On Mars???

It's just a pic for the Transformers sequel: ROCK LORDS.
  7. In this film, Chun li is the main character.
  8. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=40381 I'm not a fan of hers, and for her to have a real Chun li look, she's gonna have to hit the gym pretty hard. I'll giver her a chance, but right now I'm a bit less than thrilled. EDIT: Would a mod kindly move this to the regular movie forum? Sorry 'bout that..
  9. Always? No. Too often? Yes. I'm not "automatically" going there; dprime asked a legitimate quesiton and I gave an honest answer. I'm not saying it's impossible for someone other than a white man to win the presidency, but I think it is a bit more difficult. "Elector, n. One who enjoys the sacred privilege of voting for the man of another man's choice." --Ambrose Bierce How do I vote when I don't like either candidate, sometimes equally? Not voting, imo, is sometimes a protest against the pathetic candidates we often have thrust upon us. I try to vote, but sometimes..it's pretty bad when all you can think in that voting booth is "S/he's the lesser of two evils." Not a good feeling.
  10. You know, I hear this quite a bit and I don't get it - are people saying that after all these years, most Americans are still that racist and/or sexist? I don't know if he is, but I think many americans, conciously or unconciously, are uncomfortable voting for anyone other than a rich white man.

    Matt Damon is kidding.....right?

I think I like bourne more bc he doesn't have the negative traits that bond has. Your "lousy image" on the bourne character simply make no sense as there's no backing for them in the films, but the ideas of misogyny and imperialism are easily read in the bond films and books; a world of difference there. I do see bond as a misogynistic character; he only cares about a woman when they can do something for him, sexually or otherwise. One could say saving the woman is built into that formula of "good guy saves girl" bc we know in these films it's the women that need saving..and if he didn't trust women as much as you say, I doubt he'd try (and succeed, of course) to sleep w/ so many of them. :P As far as imperialism goes, isn't odd that most (all?) countries that harbor the villain (or is his background) is non-Anglo Saxon and often a former colony of England? There I'm referring more to the films in general than bond himself. Bond does, however, seem to often view himself superior to those of other races/cultures.

    Matt Damon is kidding.....right?

Damon states that Bond is "an imperialist and he's a misogynist. He kills people and laughs and sips martinis and wisecracks about it." Yeah..I think I can agree w/ that, and I too spit on such "values". Even if you like the bond films (which is cool ;) ), these elements (misogyny, imperialism) are certainly there; it's hardly hidden. I do think you're overracting vh; it doesn't say that being "for your country" is outdated: misogynistic and imperialistic views are. It's not all about "if you're not for us you're against us". I mean, if you wanna draw parallels, go watch V for Vendetta. ;) And, even though it's not in the article as you think, I do see it as kinda funny that you have a problem w/ people speaking out against our government when you might not've had the current freedoms you do if others hadn't done the same (spoken out against their gov't) some 200-odd years ago. I believe it makes sense to "support your country always; support your government when it deserves it." And right now..well, things aren't exactly going swimmingly..

My wife is sick in the head

Wow a nascar driver in camo..can't get much more "hick" than that. @lol@ My old roommate had a cut-out of darth vader, and early on if I went in the living room when the lights were out, I'd freak out for a second, thinking someone was there. :P Yea, darth joe, here's a good way to look at it; consider this leverage. ;)

    What do you mostly collect?

Transformers (cybertron, classics, movie toys), and..that's about it. I'd buy more sota street fighter figs if they'd make them.
